As a German immigrant to Austria I had to wait six years until I could vote for regional elections. But I was instantly "allowed" to pay taxes and social insurance contributions. Wow, that's a big name. As I said I mostly teach - outside the regular system in a private institut. I support the weakest pupils to bring them back on a solid level. That is honourable but I'm overqualified and underpaid. On the other side it gives me freedom of choice. If there would be the slightest problem with a pupil (or a parent) regarding behaviour or whatever can say it doesn't fit. I also have energy left for my dreams.

That's nice. :-) I'm happy with my education although it was very tough. I've studied mathematics with physics as minor subject and later I got a Ph.D. in mathematics education - both in Germany. And you surely apply maths and physics in your everyday job one way or another I assume. I mostly teach and I miss those applications in real life.

Thanks. Regarding time, I've had this shower thought of last: Imagine an hourglass as a metaphor for the lifespan. This is very common but there is a flaw in this metaphor: We can exactly say how many time has passed since our birth but we can only guess how much time we have left. The only exeception to this rule are humans who are terminally ill. So I don't know how much time I have left. And therefore, there is only one single way to invest my time: very carefully.

As a mathematician I'm used to SOLVE problems as efficient as possible but it took me years to realize that some women do not want so solve problems - they want to create, to have and to SPREAD them. If we look around, valentine's day is just a reminder for singles to stay single: We don't have to worry about presents or activities. "Nah, you don't have to buy me anything." One day later: "Why didn't you buy me anything???" No women with unclear expectations - no drama.
