Without more information, I can't help but wonder whether this is actually related to gender role models at all or whether anger and mental issues are just more likely to develop and fester in the type of environment related to not consistently having 2 parents. This may be in part a political move because the Murdoch brothers want to revamp Fox News and don't like O'Reilly, but it was quite possibly driven purely by the loss of ad dollars. One example I would give would be Bedouin clans of the Arabian Peninsula that would constantly raid, rape, and enslave each other in never ending blood feuds due to familial ties. I think of "eye for an eye" more in terms of "You blind me, my brother blinds you in revenge, your sister blinds me for that, my uncle blinds your sister in revenge for that, your grandpa's friend blinds my uncle for that, the king blinds the friend to put an end to it, but the friends' friend blinds the king in revenge, etc. etc. etc. until everyone's been blinded in revenge for someone else.

I think part of it is so if, say, you are trying to get away from an abusive spouse (mental, verbal, or physical, illegal or not), you won't be pressured to stay out of fear of becoming poor, homeless, etc. I'd bet the main reason is the thinking that the other person may have given up opportunities, career paths, etc. to be a home keeper/for the marriage/etc." and the loss of skills/money/independence needs to be accounted for.

Fair point, I can certainly see that being a problem. I probably used too much "extreme" language, and the concept of going through a circumcision as a self-aware adult is probably a very big deal. I just wanted to point out that circumcision hasn't affected my life. Just for fun, here's a quick study I looked up with some general background information.

For the vast majority of people who have it done as a baby, it doesn't affect your life in any way whatsoever. There is a very small minority who suffer complications and have permanent damage of some sort, but for basically everyone else, it doesn't affect your life because it IS your life. Theoretically it may cause some loss of sensation that otherwise would have existed, but it's not a true "loss" as it will never be experienced in the first place. And what's all the talk of lube?
