It almost sounds as if they feel they are owed this increase and benefits because they don't think there is any skill or education needed for those jobs. So not only do they think they should get what these male workers are getting, but also looking down on them for the jobs they have.

From an interview Brian did on NPR he was never able to talk to his parents regarding the plea deal, saying his lawyer wouldn't let him. He had to make that decision and decided to take the plea. His reasoning was that he'd be judged by his size, build, and color if he took it to trial.
