This is the most troubling thing I hear from troops. We are sworn by oath to follow lawful orders. So many people use it as a cop out to mindlessly ascribe to whatever garbage the federal govt force feeds them. I would argue that you have a responsibility to think for yourself and the discretion to know when to expose your thoughts.

I have no issue with rape prevention or suicide prevention, but neither should take priority over mission readiness. There are a lot of things I could have or should have said, it was the heat of the moment and I spoke my mind. I have done so for a long time. This particular instance had a fresh shipment of new troops, impressionable kids that were looking at each other perplexed as to why this was their fault. When I spoke up, it was clear 95% of the people in the room agreed with me and they understood what this briefing really was about. It was worth it.
