Yes a protective order or restraining order can force you out.

Ugh, I'm sorry to hear that. My attorney did tell me that it's common for women to claim fear of abuse in order to get protective orders. It doesn't have to stick and you can fight it but the damage may already be done. It's sick and women who make these false claims are abusing a system meant to protect against actual abuse. All we can do is the best we can. And if things go south try to not waste energy on hating the perpetrators.

Yep, can do. I'll work on that.

Yeah, my lawyer told me the first time we talked that this scenario is basically in the "spurned wife playbook." And that I'd need to hire a criminal lawyer to fight any RO. I swear you ought to be able to put someone in jail for false accusations like that. I've considered adding video recording to my room in the house. I'm always either with the kids or alone in that room. If she were to try to pull some shenanigans it would have to be at night where I'd be in that room with the recorder runni…

I hope it doesn't go this way for you, man.

Hmm. Good advice. I have a few and they have locks on them but I can do this.

I'll do the best I can. But you may very well see me posting my sob story about this in six weeks. It's insane that you can see something like this coming. You try to take the high road. And you still can't do anything to stop it.

Thanks. Yeah we both have lawyers. And you are right - she is in character assassination mode. Mutual friends have told me so. Honestly I think I'm going to lose no matter what I do here. If I get out of the house to prevent any craziness that sets a precedent. If I stick it out she'll play the "afraid for her and the kids" card. Right now I don't see any way to win. But let's see what my lawyer says.

All good feedback. I'm going to look for an app like that. I do take notes but it's only about significant events. But if there's any chance that she might be home alone I'm out places using my card to have a paper trail. Interestingly I do know that this is a one-part consent state. But my lawyer said no - do not record your conversations. She said it plays badly in court. That said, the VAR comes into play if she calls the cops and claims abuse. That's when it could save my butt.

Oh, wow. That article is terrifying. She's trying to line this up. I can see it in some of the wording she's used and the kids have echoed. I need to get my lawyer on this proactively right away. Thanks for the suggestions!

Working out is something I also find myself doing alot of these days. I find it very calming. I hope you get the settlement signed!

Yep. Same shit is happening in my divorce. The whole family went to my boy's therapy appointment for a group session. During this we talked about custody and how that might work. She said it would be 50/50 in front of the therapist and both children. Three days later my lawyer received paperwork stating that she was going for full custody. It's not about the kids for her. It's about money. She knows she has no grounds for anything more than 50%. None, whatsoever. But she thinks she can use this …

I spent months paying down debt as much as I could. I tightened up my budget. Made sure I was as involved in the kids' lives as I could possibly be. There are alot of things you have to be mindful of after the temporary injunction goes into effect, which isn't until after you file. You'll need to watch how you spend money, avoid talking to the kids about the divorce, refrain from bad-mouthing your (soon to be) ex. My wife demanded that I tell the kids after I had her served (since she refused to…

Interesting question. Do you happen to be more stressed than usual? That changes your hormones, for example.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
