See, my problem with that isn't the raw analogy, it's the hypocrisy with being promiscuous yourself and demanding a non-promiscuous partner.

For what it's worth, I am a man and I've never noticed some secret man code of hyperbolic crassness. TRP just seems to choose bad ways to communicate if that's the only language they know. It's so limiting.

Well, I can't because my wife would kill me.

My wife is awesome. We hang out all the time and make all kinds of strange jokes to each other. Plus I'm a monogamous individual, so a marriage like this is kind of my ideal state.

That isn't true for me at all, so I'd guess that it isn't true universally.

See, once a man develops sexual attraction to a female, he cannot really undo it. You really can't get over a crush? I kind of feel bad for you now. Some of my best friends are people who I was attracted to at first, realized that a romance between us would never work out, and got over myself so we could still spend time together and enjoy each others' company.

Jane Austen, Ursula K. LeGuin, Gertrude Stein, Robin Hobb, Virginia Woolf, all three of the Brontes. I could go on. Annie Clark, Stevie Nicks, Beyonce, Amanda Palmer, Siouxsie Sioux, Carole King. The directors are harder to list off the top of my head, but Sofia Coppola and Penny Marshall have both done some good work.

I've never had an issue getting along with my female friends, and from what I can tell they're cool with me as well. I'll have to ask my wife and see what she says about it. EDIT: Yeah, according to her we definitely get along.

For what it's worth, I feel the same way about marriage (except the part where it's the wife's job to entice the man into it. I didn't need anything besides her to convince me). It's intrinsically valuable for me and for our relationship; a sign that no matter what happens we'll make it work because we care about each other.

"Teach men not to rape" is shorthand for "drum it into people's heads what consent actually looks like and doesn't look like so stupid kids don't interpret freezing up in terror as so much lust she literally cannot speak", but that doesn't quite fit on a short and snappy byline.

But the way one pursues the strategy is never amoral because it always happens on an individual level within a society that has a moral code. Indeed. I've always found that argument incredibly flawed because as far as I'm concerned nothing is amoral.

No. If you meet someone at an event, you can probably suppose that it's a big part of their life. By forcing yourself to pretend to be into it, even if you found a relationship it would build resentment every time she wanted to do that thing you hated, especially if she still thought you were into it.

My biggest one is someone I can talk to. Someone funny, who gets most of my references, whom I can go back and forth with in pun contests. Someone who can challenge me intellectually and make me think. After that: Someone whom I can identify with spiritually and go to church with. Someone who's a genuinely good person, who inspires me to improve myself and whom I can inspire the same. I really don't have a type as far as looks go - it's almost the last on my list of qualifications.

1 - AWALT. First and foremost. Does not agree with anything that I have experienced. 2 - The constant worrying about "maintaining frame". I'm comfortable enough with who I am that I don't need to be always wondering what the "alpha" thing to do is. I do the right thing and it usually works out for me. 3 - insisting that it's an "amoral sexual strategy" and that that absolves it of any number of terrible things and people they support. Nothing is amoral.

The overt cultural trappings of masculinity and femininity have nothing to do with chromosomes. Classical Greek men considered showing strong emotions and shedding tears to be a sign of manliness, and the women of the Teutons and Cimbri were known to be tougher than the men. Saying that what we consider masculine and feminine behaviors are controlled by your chromosomes is like saying that our standards of beauty are set in stone while ignoring the evidence in art of the past that cultural stand…

Many women at the nation's most elite colleges say they have already decided that they will put aside their careers in favor of raising children. What does "many" mean in this context? The 10-year-old article doesn't have a lot of hard numbers, going for broad points and a "feels over reals" style on the whole. Have there been any studies since then?

If you can't read body language well enough to be able to tell when someone has frozen up in panic, you'd fucking better ask for consent. Don't give me that crap about how it isn't sexy, there's plenty of ways to make it hot and consensual simultaneously. Example one: grab her hair, pull her head close to your lips, and whisper, "Tell me how much you want me." She backs off, verbally or physically? Then you back off and you both head back to the couch for a cozy night with Netflix. She's up for …

By "certain characteristics" do you mean building an empire based off of antisemitism and warmongering, murdering over 10 million humans in industrial death camps? There are very few groups that have so much evil that any good they have done is completely wiped from their record, and the Nazis are numero uno on that list.

Probably about half of my close friends are female, my wife among them. I met them through school, through my hobbies, through other friends of mine that I was hanging out with. Eowyn has gotten a lot of flak from some feminists I know for giving up the sword for a man. I've always responded that her arc was choosing life and hope over grim fate and that choosing to lay down her weapons was an act of power that showed two kingdoms that peace was not only possible but going to happen after the brutal war they experienced.
