Check out other people doing the hobby. If no women do it, like chess, that's a red flag. If no young people do it, like golf, that's another red flag. What do cool guys do? Co-ed soccer, mountain climbing, hiking, scuba diving, basketball, anything active. Stay away from hobbies that don't give you much exercise or adventure.
