some things are worse than being burned to death, such as someone's kid being molested. What ever gave you the idea that molestation causes more suffering than burning someone to death? Not only is burning to death unimaginably physically and psychologically agonizing in its own right, but it also causes significant lifelong distress for all friends and loved ones.

I live in Thailand. Everyone in the government, including the king, are ethnically Thai. Does that mean this is a Thaiarchy? Yes, that's one way to describe it. Is that a useful way to think about who has privilege in the country? Are ethnic Thais an elite caste who sneer down at the peasant foreigners? Nooooo. Kind of the opposite. Foreigners live in luxury high rises while Thais build those high rises for a few dollars a day without so much as a mask to protect them from welder's flash. Excell…

real patriarchal theory says that all power rests in hands of few men on top No, that is one of feminists' distortion of the concept of "patriarchy," which refers to societies in which men as a class dominate women.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates06/12/23 09:39 AM

When discussing patriarchy, it is important to remember that you are discussing a culture, a set of societal expectations and rules that govern how men and women act Yep, feminists erroneously conflate gender norms, which oppress both men and women, with the patriarchy. It is dumb and absurd. It is true that our current gender norms are historically rooted in patriarchal relations. However, the patriarchy dissolved in modern Western societies about a half-century ago, leaving behind these norms …

men are becoming more and more lonely and directionless with the rise of social media and the lack of real social contacts, the loss of traditional male jobs, lack of good male role models and a more ambiguous ideal version of a men. Don't forget the increasing rise in male inceldom, which is due to women's increasing prudishness and ever-narrowing sexual standards.

shit like this spiraled me into inceldom Please don't use the word "inceldom" in the non-literal way feminists do, i.e., as synonymously with "misogyny" or a particular subculture. Inceldom is the inability to get laid—that's it. You can only spiral into it if you were previously able to get laid but find it increasingly difficult.

Feminists stigmatize ordinary behavior among romantic couples with their "emotional labor" concept and ordinary male sexual behavior with their "male gaze" concept. They clearly have a deep-set hatred for normal, healthy human sexuality and romantic partnerships.

When in reality you bring up lonely men on a feminist sub. And all of them would say it's not a woman's job to make men happy. I have always found this position with regard to sex and male inceldom utterly absurd. Women literally engage in social exclusion when, as a class, they tend to have sex only with certain types of men and routinely reject others. Social exclusion, of course, is distressing. Basically, these feminists are saying that women are not responsible for the suffering in men that…

A bigger source of misandry than feminism. I would not go that far. it's invisible to many of us because we're used to the way things are and so we only spot the new forms of misandry that are added by feminists. Feminism has been dominant for the past half-century, i.e., the entire lives of all but every poster here. Its misandry does not amount to new forms that cropped up sometime during our lives.

How about changing the sexual culture that determines a man’s value based on how much sex he has with women? I believe what you propose goes hand-in-hand with what I described. You cannot make women more willing to sex, they, and men, have the right to refuse sex for any reason. I am a psychology major. Most people do not understand that even perception is rooted in cultural concepts, even color perception. So, what guides women to fuck particular men, and reject others, are certain cultural c…

Yeah, on the buses and stuff here at university I mostly hear about girls talking about their romantic and sexual exploits with men. They speak about them openly, almost like they're showing off, because obviously they know everyone around them can hear. Only once have I heard guys speak about their exploits like that on the bus.

Even the Department of Justice recognizes that most teachers who fuck their students are women: Official statistics indicate that the majority of abusers are male and their victims are female; however, surveys of students show a much higher percentage of female abusers and male victims. because that was the most effective solution. Are you more worried about gender segregation in public transit or the harassment? I am skeptical that there even is such a widespread epidemic of sexual harassment in those places, as reported by the state. The state is always hungry to strengthen itself via repressive measures, divide-and-conquer tactics, and fearmongering. It would be interesting to look into the political history of the politicians who promoted and helped enact those segregation …

The solution would be to change the sexual culture that generates the sexual frustration responsible for sexual harassment in the first place. Part of this would entail women being more open to sex with men of all types, regardless of appearance, personality, socioeconomic status, race, age, etc. This is what a true sexual revolution would look like.

Ok, are any of those commenters using the issue of sexual harassment by men to “take away” anything from men? This is a red herring. By fostering the impression that men are so dangerous that it is not safe to be around them in public, they are whipping up resentment and prejudice against men, which absolutely harms us. Women who complain about sexual harassment from men, are almost always women who’ve experienced it, and just want it to stop. The problem is that what counts as "harassment" ha…

Hey, these women are complaining about feeling unsafe in public! How do I make this into a men’s issue What a fantastically stupid remark. These women are not complaining about a vague feeling of being unsafe but specifically attributing it to men and, in so doing, promulgating a host of scurrilous insinuations and generalizations. Feminine stuff is tautologically: stuff women do. I already explained why this is false. The burden is on you to actually address my explanation. Merely repeating the claim does not advance the discussion. Anything else is trying to make you act against your own instincts Humans do not have any instincts, and both feminine and masculine behaviors are sociohistorically variable cultural factors—they are not biologically determined.

This guy has deeper issues than that, however. I disagree and actually concur with pretty much everything else he said. My earlier reply to your removed comment was itself removed because of a slight rule violation. "Left" and "right" represent a single issue: Economics. Even as a Marxist, I recognize that this is false. As you can glean from virtually all dictionary and encyclopedia entries on these terms, they essentially refer to egalitarianism and anti-egalitarianism, respectively and in general. Your take smacks of conservative linguistic prescriptivism and borderline linguistic discrimination. Left-wing is about ownership and/or control of the means of production (i.e. land), which is why most moder…

these are things women do that are specific to women, and that they're permitted to "get away with" because of their gender. Even if true, that does not make those things feminine. Concretely speaking, when people use or think of the term "feminine," they have in mind these traits listed in the Free Dictionary's entry on the term: having qualities or characteristics traditionally ascribed to women, as sensitivity, delicacy, or prettiness. In Vygotsky's Sociohistorical Psychology and its Contempo…

The problem is our culture of sexual inequality, including the fact that women are the "gatekeepers" of sex. The onus is on women to be less prude and to have sex with more varieties of men, even those who are currently perceived as unattractive. The goal is forming a society in which everyone sexually engages each other indiscriminately notwithstanding superficial factors like biological sex, appearance, age, filial relation, etc. Considering the current culture, we have a long way to go.

This is my first time posting here, so I was unaware that submissions had to be recognized DOI URLs, but here is the abstract of the study (titled "Security-Based Differences in Touch Behavior and Its Relational Benefits") referenced by the article: Affectionate touch is crucial to the development of attachment security in infancy, yet little is known about how attachment and touch are related in adulthood. I'm not sure why you're asking me this. I never claimed or suggested that hunting reputation is relevant to modern life. The reason I posted the above comment is to reveal that some of the "broader research" that the OP's study claims corroborates its findings is unreliable. Actually, the fact that this research is done on small-scale societies shows that overextrapolating its findings to explain behavior in modern societies would be scientifically irresponsible.

I don't have time at the moment to critically assess this particular study, but it should be noted that some of the "broader research" in this area, including Apicella (2014), has found that reproductive success associated with upper-body strength is "largely mediated by hunting reputation." In other words, it is not strength per se that improves success, but rather the sociocultural factor of hunting reputation. Here, the former merely serves as a proxy for the latter. These findings therefore …

You can't find what's wrong with you if you can't express it as an idea (like trp). It is just that deep feeling inside that something's wrong, but with no way of getting it out. Slightly relevant, but this kinda reminds me of the concept in psychology and philosophy known as ressentiment: According to the existentialists, ressentiment is a sense of hostility directed at that which one identifies as the cause of one's frustration, that is, an assignment of blame for one's frustration. The sense …

Great, you've provided some sources. Now, quote the relevant sections that you feel support your claim that women possess a "biological function" that limits their mating choices to "just one partner in their whole lifetime" and that this is an example of "imprinting."

You can see it across different species all the time Perhaps, but this doesn't mean these processes differ by biological sex in humans. Human behavior is very different from animal behavior in that, while it is influenced by biology, it is not biologically determined. By reducing human behavior to mere animalistic processes, you are ignoring its fundamentally cultural nature.

"considerable ignorance" he says, yet doesn't even know that Pair Bonding in humans is an accepted theory amongst mainstream scientists, and by mainstream I mean EVEN wikipedia mainstream: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pair_bond#Humans_and_pair_bonding This is another straw man. I never said psychologists don't acknowledge pair bonding, only that it has nothing to do with imprinting. I don't think you're able to handle academic discussion. You should come back once you've cooled off.

Your argument against my primary source was that he's "unqualified", because his degree is related, but not closely enough Academics can only make authoritative claims in their field of expertise. Does this make sense to you? This is not a straw man fallacy You did, in fact, make a straw man fallacy in claiming that I said your source "know[s] nothing about the condition," when this in fact is not what I said.

So because someone has a PhD in a related field, instead of the direct field, they know nothing about the condition and are obviously wrong and full of shit? Do you know what a straw man argument is? This is a logical fallacy where one attacks an argument not made by their opponent, as if their opponent actually made it. I did not say that psychiatrists know nothing about imprinting (which is not a condition, BTW). In fact, I made it clear that they have an educational background in psychology. …

It's unique to women, its a biological function they have. Which studies have you read that suggest women possess such a "biological function?" The concept of "imprinting" in psychology is usually associated with Konrad Lorenz's finding that goslings form strong attachments to the first moving object they see after hatching. While it was initially thought that this attachment is permanent, it's now understood to be relatively flexible and subject to change. To think that "imprinting" in human wo…
