What do you think of evolutionary psychology, especially as it relates to sex?I think you got a little confused by what I was saying so I'm going to zero in on the only relevant bit: No i got it perfectly and i wanted you to come out with a more specific statement, in fact... If I find those behaviors to be immoral ...you explained here that it is more on a personal moral consideration of inferiority, not on a difference of an objective empirical trait. I don't change my judgment of a behavior based on whether someone has control over it. Here the difference, because your… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 25/10/22 06:41 PM
What do you think of evolutionary psychology, especially as it relates to sex?Yes, you can de facto be a variation of an average that exist due to evolutionary pressure. The problem is that it can also be true that you being a variation can be the extreme byproduct of such evolutionary traits. Despite being a more maladaptive behaviour, there is nothing that prevent the enviroment or gene mutations to lead to a similar outcome. Plus natural selection may have an hard time to completely get rid off of such trait, especially if ultimally the people that in the past had the … | /r/PurplePillDebate | 25/10/22 05:17 PM
What do you think of evolutionary psychology, especially as it relates to sex?The thought of being pregnant is straight up repulsive to me ... from your side for that lol Quite simple. In fact just 1 question can lead you to outcomes that weaken your point: do you think that your tendency was a product of biology, the enviroment or both? If i ask you why you don't like pregnancy can you give me a possible explaination why you feel that way? The reason is effectively an higher level of risk assessment. You know the consequences of pregnancy and there are aspect of it that … | /r/PurplePillDebate | 25/10/22 11:00 AM
What do you think of evolutionary psychology, especially as it relates to sex?You lost me with the generalizing according to ethnicity/race. And you lost me with the generalizing your concept of inferiority to a particular sex (aka men) I can easily say I feel superior to all rapists, without knowing anything else about them other than that they rape. Exactly, in the same way the arguments about sexual insticts (in relationship or not with men), that you criticize, can be made also by women and this is why i asked to you "inferior" relative to what. You said:"That being s… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 25/10/22 09:50 AM
What do you think of evolutionary psychology, especially as it relates to sex?Understandable. Been there. Good luck with your exams I hope we can pick up this conversation again in the near future, however. ...And of course, why not. | /r/PurplePillDebate | 25/10/22 05:52 AM
What do you think of evolutionary psychology, especially as it relates to sex? This sub in this context is the only place I have ever seen this field of study talked about, so this is all I have to judge it on. Ok, i understand now better your point of view And I would say it makes them inferior because I expect normal adults to make good choices in spite of their instincts. So inferior relative to you (or women i guess...???) and what you consider "good choices", your morals and insticts. We may not know all aspects of our evolutionary history, but if their behaviours hav… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 25/10/22 05:51 AM
What do you think of evolutionary psychology, especially as it relates to sex?I think we're mostly in agreement on the rest however. And i think we agree also to the previous part, in fact... There are biological traits that we can explain with a great degree of certainty from an evolutionary standpoint. ...we agree. In fact, i pointed out that some evoulutionary traits are harder to explain that others. because we are not the only living species in which they occur and we can examine its functions in others. Now to the inconsistency we disagree with. Similar mating strat… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 24/10/22 09:58 PM
What do you think of evolutionary psychology, especially as it relates to sex?Fair enough. Tho, someone can argue that evolutionary Psychology have also the advantage to rely on biological and more defineable/quantative empirical data than Sociology. Ex: if you find out (both qualitative and quantitative) that to a specific neurochemical imbalance it is associated a specific behaviour and then you predict that such behaviour for that animal is maladaptive in such context and in an experiment ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Experimental_evolution) you would effectively h… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 24/10/22 09:18 PM
What do you think of evolutionary psychology, especially as it relates to sex? Then it is not wrong pointing out an observable tendency we see in society. Effectively we don't know all the biological mecchanisms that explain why women experience stereotype threat or how exactly specific social factors in general affect a woman brain, but we make such assumptions anyway based on the likehood of onset of such event in such specific circumstamces. We yet are not able to analyze all the component parts of such emergent property. In the same way we don't know the mecchanisms of… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 24/10/22 08:51 PM
What do you think of evolutionary psychology, especially as it relates to sex?Essentially like sociology? | /r/PurplePillDebate | 24/10/22 08:08 PM
What do you think of evolutionary psychology, especially as it relates to sex?I'm referring specifically to dating and sex Which many (not all, but many relevant ones) behavioural tendencies do have also an evolutionary etiology. I was addressing the same thing. I simply do not believe that most people are so at the mercy of instinct. And we agree on that. Notice tho that the OP is asking about what you think on Evolutionary Psychology in general, not what you think about the use that some redditors in this specific subs make of it. it seems to be men who primarily make t… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 24/10/22 07:06 PM
What do you think of evolutionary psychology, especially as it relates to sex?Like social factors and the story that men behaviour (expecially the sexual one) is just the result of entitlement, ignoring all other biological factors that indeed have a remarkable influence in it, right? Unless you would argue that you are able to think and a rock does not because of magic, there is often an evolutionary biological and internal chemical component that interplay with environmental factors. Heck, this may be the likely reason why you are factually more selective than the avera… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 24/10/22 06:39 PM
