I guess your being flippant, but for goodness sakes a hell of a lot of people identify as feminists and it means something different (it seems like) to all of them.

The logic used by the court is terrible to the point of disgust, but I don't think what you say follows. To the court they are definitely providing child support to a child at the cost of only maybe lessening the deterrence of future crimes. In other words, they don't think the ruling is likely to deter future crimes to a great enough degree to outway other considerations. Not that the ruling isn't mind boggling for other reasons, your objection just isn't the right one.

You don't think jail time is an appropriate consequence for that? I don't care about how nit picky you get about whether that counts as rape, I'm not sure I care either way, but regardless of sexes I think that's a pretty serious thing to do if you can prove it.

First, never mention Hitler in an argument. Eh, I don't think that's a rule- the rule is just that it always happens :P In any case I think it illustrated my very simple point just fine. Second, never just claim misogyny without explaining why. That is the thing feminists do to avoid real argument. How do I explain it though? He said that only women can be evil. Saying that women are evil is hateful, saying men are evil is hateful. I apologize if this isn't well articulated, I'm having difficult…

Your reply made no sense so I edited the wording a bit. It seemed like you thought I called you Hitler, for instance. I didn't change the meaning of anything.

I've always said that men can be mean, but to be truly evil, that takes a woman. Dude, what about Hitler? Joking aside, that's really a quite misogynistic statement. It might be true that there is a difference in how women are taught to associate with eachother, but your pet phrase is just wrong.

That's besides the point though. Relevant to the sub of course, but not hugged's point. Unless you think that somehow justifies mensrights acting like tumblr feminism

This is tragic and all, and I hate to be that guy, but is this really appropriate for the sub? Anytime a woman is convicted of something it should be up voted, if I am to understand? I just have a really hard time connecting this to the sub.

I think this is a good point. If these two examples are to be juxtaposed as an example of a double standard, it's important to note what's really at play here. Might not be a woman/man double standard so much as a gay/straight thing. At the same time, I don't think the end result would be that different if she was straight, but it's still a good point.

In the case of hypocrisy, admitting it doesn't really help. It's like admitting you're racist or willfully ignorant. It's not like admitting you're stupid or have a bad temper, where there is some element you can't control. All you're doing is admitting you're a bad person.

See, this is where I just can't agree with you. Yes the child is important, probably fair to say it is indeed most important. But to say that it is the only human being to be considered is ridiculous to me. I feel like whatever injustice a person may have suffered in being tricked into having a child, once that child exists, their rights trump the wronged father. Then have the state pay child support. The man has literally been tricked into having his DNA in another human being, he took no actio…

I realize that divorce courts aren't meant to disadvantage men, of course. Of course I don't mean to encourage people not to be fathers. But a system where biological parenthood automatically assumes responsibility ignores completely who's choice it was to create the child in the first place. We've had many stories of women being dishonest about whether or not they are on birth control, and even some more bizarre stories about stealing sperm. Do you think the man should be forced to take respons…

And by the way, how serious can someone be (of my age for example 23) about being sterilized? I wondered that it could be a perfect way of going full fuckaround mode, but never seriously thought about doing it or heard of anyone who did this. People do it I believe, it's not unheard of, but you have to be pretty sure because obviously you won't ever be able to change your mind (though you can pay to save sperm I believe). I don't personally know anyone though.

Assuming the man never had any intention to support a child (we'll say it's a one night stand), he shouldn't owe anything. In practice there would likely be some sort of process to go through and etc. The woman would then have the choice to abort, give the child up for adoption, keep it (and receive state child support perhaps), or drop it off. I realize that biology puts the woman in the tougher situation, but current solutions are not a solution, but a bigger problem. This is why sexual educat…

Basically, no one should be required to pay child support for a child they never planned to raise. If a child is conceived under the understanding between both parents to raise it together, and one parent changes their mind and withdraws support, than I think forced monetary support is fair and necessary. But there is a huge difference between where support is withdrawn and where support was never intended. The wellness of the child is of course important, but forcing someone who never intended …

I got banned 0.0 That last comment was the first time I mentioned feminism I think. I frequented the sub often to pick up opinions from both sides of the coin, and participate in discussion. I never spammed, trolled, or even criticized feminism really. I never derailed a topic or made things about teh menz unless it was already the topic at hand. Yet I'm banned. Alright, alright, it's not a step forward. I was never trying to make a big deal of it, it just seemed like a positive thing (however minor) to include male victims when talking about sexual violence in any capacity. I still think it's a minor change in the narrative, but I'm also aware that in the end it's still all bellied by feminist theory.

that it's the most correct solution given the circumstances I am a thousand times NOT saying this. Saying that something is better than the status quo is not arguing from the middle ground. I am not saying it's a compromise. I am saying it's a stepping stone on the road to success. There is a huge difference. the one lie is that feminists care about men and the other is the original lie that only men are rapists. Nonono. I would be arguning from the middle ground if I said that this was the ideal solution. I'm just saying it's a step in the right direction, as opposed to it being the same info-graphic without the middle bit. Are you saying that if it didn't mention men as victims at all that would be better? You seem to be missing the point, I'm not saying it's a lot of progress, just a little.

?? Nobody said the fist symbol only applies to feminist. There are of course other groups too, like some communist symbols and I hear the black power movement. The idea, besides this post just being a bit of subreddit history, is that while the feminist symbol represents aggression the men's rights symbol represents equality.

More elaborate lies? I know what you mean in general, but the whole point of this post is that it hit closer to the truth than usual. If feminist theory is conceding ground, that's a good thing. No, that's foolish a victim mentality. You are already not a feminist then, you just call yourself one. Patriarchy theory is literally what feminism is about, you see? I don't mean to sound hostile, it's hard to convey tone through text. But this is sort of like calling yourself a writer when you have never written anything. You may have some sort of idea of feminism in your head that fits you, but what feminism actually is has very little to do with you.

Yes, they would be. But defending against accusations doesn't have to involve a rumour war, in which no one wins. The more you fight back like that, the farther you get dragged under. Kinda like quicksand, IIRC. You gotta try and slow down the craziness and use something sturdy to pull yourself out, not struggle yourself farther in.

Your post didn't make much sense, I'm afraid. Think about it. Not long ago, women couldn't get jobs that paid enough to support a family. Men could. It wasn't feminists keeping women from getting decent paying jobs. Family courts are meant to look out for the children's best interests. You are still missing the point- the point! The whole point of this discussion is that the girl suggests that feminism can fix the problem, when feminism is in a way the cause. You need to understand the problem as you see it exists because of SUPPLY and DEMAND. The costumes are the way they are because women choose them to be that way. It just has nothing to do with feminism.
/r/MensRights15/11/12 08:16 PM
3

You don't seem to understand that the selection is a direct product of supply and demand. It's not men's faults, or any enemy of feminism. It's women who demand those costumes. That's their choice of what to wear- you know, like those slut walks fight for.
/r/MensRights15/11/12 03:56 AM
5

If more costumes are slutty it's because that's what sells. Those companies aren't sexist, in fact I think you'll find companies are almost never sexist, racist, etc if it'll lose them revenue. If you are seeing more slutty costumes then you want it's because they are the costumes women chose, not because men choose for them.
/r/MensRights15/11/12 03:54 AM
3

Alright, fine and dandy, there should be less slutty costumes. But unless you can somehow explain why feminism solves that problem in any way, the girl is still saying ridiculous things. If you look in a society truly oppressive to women, you will see that generally women are wrapped up very conservatively. In north america, women who dressed 'slutty' were heavily ostracized and even systematically oppressed when it came to rape charges. Feminism essentially fixed that problem to a certain degre…

It is NOT a legal contract giving unrestricted sexual access. Unless you can cite something, I'm going to assume you are just spewing bullshit. Also, you were not explaining how marriage has worked through history. You were speaking entirely present-tense. WTF is wrong with you, marriage is not selling yourself. Marriage isn't handing the keys to your body over, and relinquishing free will. Marriage shouldn't be anything different then a regular couple other than what it means to those people. You do NOT get to tell people how a marriage should work. You don't get to define the relationship between two people right down to sexual access, you just don't. That's for them to deal with. You said spousal rape is a near oxymoron. That is just not okay. I'd like to think you are ignorant of actual rape between spouses, but I dunno. Just because you marry someone doesn't mean you can't be forcibly raped against your will, or beaten, or any other crime. By calling it an oxymoron you strongly implied that marriage always fulfills consent and could never be considered rape.

That is an excellent point. Think of my opinion as the theory of how I think it should be handled. In practice the theory might have to be a bit compromised. Right now the theory is "you made it, you're responsible for it". In practice this holds pretty true for men, and women are increasingly being given the right to ignore that philosophy. If you do actually want to know how I'd put my theory into practice it would be based on 'proving' that the parent did commit to having a child. Like, other…

I think that if a women gets pregnant under the clear understanding that both parents were doing it on purpose, but then the guy backs out, child support. (Same with a girl, if she has the baby and the guy is single dad). If it happened by accident, then they should both be able to opt out. Women wants to keep it? Then it's her choice. The only time anyone should get forced child support is when she has good reason to have expected support in the first place.
