Congrats on questioning the societal mechanisms which are designed to keep you on the hamster wheel. I am 37 and got divorced at 32 after 3 years of marriage. We are on good terms, but we just didn't want the same things in life. I have spent the past 3 years or so working on myself. Not trying to be the version of me that anyone else wants. Be pissed, be bummed, be worried, but also make some personal goals, and don't even worry about women or trying to attract them. As you move forward with yo…

You are so right. Complexities abound in life, hopefully people choose wisely based upon facts, logic, and intellect instead of emotions and temporary desires. Certainly easier said than done!

Awareness, the Perils and Opportunities of Reality. By Anthony de Mello. It can be had for less than $10 shipped. An amazing book for sure!

I think there is some truth here relative to taking care of one's self. However, it doesn't surprise me how self-centered she is. Instead of taking care of herself and putting forth effort FOR HER OWN HEALTH and for the good of society (better health is less of a social burden, less need for social services in theory), it is all about taking advantage of the other. This mindset is toxic and demonstrates an inability to maturely integrate herself with the whole. It baffles me as to why many women…

Pressure to get married from her/her family/her friends. I'm not talking about friendly jabs either. They wanted a timeline! Also expensive taste. If she likes Louie bags and $5000 paintings from obscure artists now, expect her to continue to need those things in the future, except YOU will be the one footing the bill. Look for crappy financial decisions in her past (patterns). They will continue. It's NOT your job to fix her or educate her about finances. Marriage wasn't completely bad, there w…

Zeroed out at 35. I feel like I didn't even get near my prime until this past year. I can't imagine how much you're going through right now, but I am here to tell you it gets so, so much better. Find a hobby that centers you, no matter what it is. Breathe, think, look for the good in your day, even if it's small or only one thing per day. Focus and move forward. You are not alone brother.

Greetings brother, looking back to a similar situation I was in about 14 months ago, sitting on my couch, beer in hand, as my gf at the time walked out of my house and out of my life, I too felt a great sense of relief as well as a mixture of so much more. You're certainly never alone in this community and it sounds like you have some great connections in other social circles as well. One of the best parts for me were the blank spots on the walls where her pictures, paintings, and mirrors had on…

A shot in the dark here but it sounds like a codependence issue, which is solvable with some reading and self redirection. Any time you have to look for outside relationships or attention to validate your own worthiness or to establish your identity, you are treading in the realm of codependence. A very good book, which is short and easy to implement in your life is called, "Codependent No More" by Beatty. It really helped me counteract the need for outside validation and restarted my internal v…

Thanks guys! If you need basic schematics for the wiring, lmk. I was able to figure it out after disassembling the broken electric guitar I got the neck from.

I think the era of "guys" for things you need is coming to an end. Maybe people in my generation (Millennials) were forced to get many different jobs and gigs in the gig economy that has pervaded the US economy since around 2008. I have had to learn to fix my car, my watch, take preemptive steps to lower bills, repair my own clothing, etc. Not everyone is this way for certain. I also know that many people my age and younger are far more comfortable suffering a little while not having to interact…

I found a cheap, old, broken electric guitar and pulled the neck off to use with this cigar box. All other hardware was found, improvised, or bought online. Total cost of project around $30. Minor soldering involved and lots of shimming, tweaking, and problem-solving. More to come this winter, looking at trying to build one per month or so.

I totally get that. It takes a lot of practice, but you'll get there. Enjoy the book! Hope it helps.

Don't be so serious about everything in life and focus on enjoying instead of judging, and that goes for self judgement as well. Be kind to others, you never know what is going on in their life/day. Take a moment to thank those in your life who you value or who you feel have helped you get to where you are at now. Don't worry about what others think of you. Follow your dreams/goals/ideas to fruition. Just my 2c

I also used to be painfully shy and quiet. Maybe try and come up with a few relatively easy convo starters at work or whatever and just work with them until you build some confidence to branch out a little socially or in convos. I think overthinking and negative self talk can really hurt confidence and your ability to speak up or engage others. People want to see other people being themselves and part of that is trying to become more comfortable in your own skin. I learned a lot from trying to o…
