OP asks why no one here seems to want to help gay men. Other guy answers that "women can be gay too" like that's the reason. So this guy, because homosexuality can also be a female thing, says that the people in this sub shouldn't fight for gay rights. That's a pretty hardcore misogyny-influenced attitude.

Who's being sarcastic here? (again, that one can sound like sarcasm, but isn't)

I mean, men and "males" are humans, so that stuff is about human rights, correct?

So... human rights then?

That's why, by this logic, it would be nice of you guys to stop focusing on Men's Rights and join the fight for Human Rights. Men are human beings, ya know, so it could work.

Dude, I can't yawn more. I've already yawned once. You can't double-yawn. So please assume that I am bored with you and move on. If you're so sure that you've won the argument, you'll be able to do that. Try being satisfied with what you've got.

Again, if that hotel then turns around to accuse the victim of somehow not preventing their own rape through sheer incompetence, they can fuck off. You pay the hotel to give you a safe space to spend the night. If the space is not safe, it's their fault. Don't ever try real chess, you might not enjoy it.

Not if you only do it to blame their own rape on them. Stalemate.

I think it's reasonable to ask of a hotel to have proper security measures.

I am indeed confused, by this: its as retarded as blaming a hotel for not having a robust lock on the door and because of that you hold them responsible for the rape and then being outraged when they mention you as an individual didnt even use the lock and claiming "its victim blaming" Does that hypothetical door have a lock, or doesn't it? Is the lock weak? Because if the lock is weak enough to offer no protection even when in place, how can you blame the person who ends up assaulted because of…

That's not really what she says. She says "how long will we have to wait until the blame for rape is placed where it belongs: with the rapist". That doesn't mean that the fault of the rape is entirely the rapist's; the rapist has the intent, and actually does the crime, but facilities with inadequate security offer the opportunity. And when the people responsible for this lack of security turn around and blame the rape victims for being raped, they're not only wrong, they're also being assholes.…

It probably comes from reading this sub. A lot of posts are extremely agressive towards women, I find.

At this point all I could do is write a post that essentially mirrors yours. So let's agree to disagree. Farewell.

We can stop this right now if you're going to keep resorting to petty insults, my friend. I never said women who take up room for their bags (oh, men do that too, by the by) aren't abusing some sort of privilege. That's the privilege of the jerk on the bus. Yes, many people feel entitled to their own seat(s) on the bus. But not everyone behaves like a barbarian; many people don't feel the need to spread their legs far apart, or to give a comfortable seat to their luggage. "Manspreading" is an ab…

You've clearly misunderstood my, erm, "wonderful little titbit of garbage". The "ban" on "manspreading" isn't proof of privilege. The fact that "manspreading" exists is that proof. The fact that so many men just plop themselves down over two seats and spread their legs, blocking even more seats, without even thinking about it, is proof that no one is questioning what they're doing, even though it's an inconvenience. So those PSAs are telling men to be a bit more careful about how they place thei…

Are you seriously arguing that the public service announcements are not a response to the quite public feminist outcry and condemnation of this particular behaviour? I'm saying there's more to it. It's not like the public transports authorities are at the feminists' beck and call. Incidentally, even if the original complaints only come from women (which is doubtful; other men may well be inconvenienced by "manspreading"), those women aren't necessarily feminists. In this case, the authorities re…

Or it's about dressing like you want to dress. If she wants to dress that way, who are you to judge?
/r/MensRights21/01/15 11:16 PM

And the difference between that and manspreading is what exactly? There isn't one I guess. Both blogs are equally stupid in that regard, and both attitudes (bags/spreading) are equally obnoxious. I guess you could say that the difference is that in one case they're just bags, in the other some random guy's leg is touching you and you'd rather it didn't. So, this is now a public service ad campaign on a government provided service because the government listens to tumblr? I don't know, maybe? Is …

Honestly, I don't think I can answer you "in a satisfactory manner". I'm not here to do that, neither am I here to argue on behalf of all feminists; that would be presumptuous of me. Your three points, condensed, basically amount to: men won't have any problems if women aren't involved, women are "petty and greedy", and men should feel entitled to "their seats" and "their personal space" (are women allowed those in your little fantasy world?) If the two explanations you accept are "women are gre…

I don't feel entitled to comfort on public transports. They're convenient, not comfortable. And I'm perfectly capable of sitting with my knees, say, a hand's length apart; even closed legs aren't as bad as you try to make it sound; sure, if it's for too long, it will be a bit painful, I know that from experience, hence the "hand's length apart" thing. But no one is asking us to squeeze our testicles together until they explode. That kind of thing is just part of a general discomfort that, frankl…

People shouldn't have to follow unrealistic expectations. Many do, because they are pressured to do so. Not everyone can resist peer pressure. And if you can't follow the video because of Laci's cleavage, that's kinda your fault. And if you can, well, what's the problem?

Sadly, I don't think you'll find reasonable "Men's Rights activists" anywhere in this sub. It's true that in any group, the most vocal members are the extremists, and I think this sub is full of them. My advice to you, if you want to fight oppression, is to get out of here, because almost all they do is blame women/feminists for their woes.

It's nice that you don't want to attack feminism and feminists. However, the article was satirical, and made fun of the people who think "feminazis" actually exist. I'm not sure what FlamingBearAttack's intent was when they posted the link, but I'm glad it's here. It was very funny.

I've taken a look at that Tumblr. It's mostly about women (it's focused on women for some reason) putting bags on the seat next to them. I've done that. We've all done that. If someone needs the seat, you take the bag and put it on yourself. Or are you telling me that you would be scared to ask for a seat? You seem to think that: one, feminists have that kind of influence; two, they'd waste it on something that trivial, for the sheer joy of oppressing men. Feminism isn't about oppressing men. No…

Oppression doesn't automatically mean sexual harassment. They're different things. I find it strange that you would equate having large breasts and long hair with spreading one's legs. Spreading one's legs is an active behaviour, so whoever is doing it can simply stop. That's what makes the campaign more reasonable than your hypothetical "don't have big boobs" campaign. Everyone is worthy of criticism for one reason or another; but I still don't get why feminists (or at least all feminists) are …

Do you honestly think that preventing "manspreading" is the big priority for the feminist community? Think again. Frankly, I think it could just be the public transport authorities telling people to make sure they don't take too much room (spreading your legs incommodates people on either side of you). If it's directed at men, you could say it's because women are expected not to spread their legs... and why would you expect that? Because society has been preaching that crossing your legs is the …

I have something that sounds similarly far-fetched. Let's say it was the Christian community: they're notorious for not wanting anything sexual to be visible in public places and, well, what's more sexual than a man spreading his legs? It's basically saying "hey, look at my junk". Won't anyone think of the children? There you go. You don't have to blame the feminists for this one! ;)

Watching it a second time, and I think you just have trouble understanding Laci when she speaks. She talks about emasculation being a problem for men, because society forces this image of "perfect masculinity" on them. To sum up the video, she basically talks about society being both misogynist and misandrist by body-shaming EVERYONE. Oh and she doesn't say it's "great" that he's topless; she's just describing the photos.

You're imagining this "full blessing of the feminist community". "Feminists" who want to oppress men are a minority. That said, I find it a bit strange that you would call those PSAs sexual harassment. If anything, not "manspreading" should prevent people from feeling you up, surely?

These are not "feminist ideas"; these are the ideas of "some" feminists. Feminism is about equality between men and women. Taking "silly Tumblr feminists" seriously essentially because of what they "might do" is ridiculous for several reasons. One: it creates a strawman opponent, and prevents any constructive discussion. Two: it makes you lot look completely paranoid, and diminishes the credibility of any legitimate fear you may have. Basically, if you want your suffering to be taken seriously, …

The video is mostly about men being oppressed because of unrealistic gender representations. About men suffering because they don't fit the "perfect image" that they're constantly confronted with in modern society. She only starts talking about how women are also oppressed by unrealistic gender representations at 2:34, in a video that's only 3:32 long (the rest is Laci reading comments). She explicitly says that this unrealistic body image phenomenon is bad for all genders. I think you're overre…

Watching it right now, and the "feminist" character is a giant strawman. Or strawwoman, if you prefer, spouting what the maker of the video thinks all feminists say. The main guy is equally obnoxious, so I guess they deserve each other. But neither of them actually reflect what real MRAs and feminists are.

I guess if it helps, it's "implicitly asked" of anyone on the bus as soon as the pregnant woman/man with a cast gets on it. If you're the only one getting up, more power to you.
/r/MensRights20/01/15 11:24 PM
1

It's acceptable, in my view, for her to ask for (not "demand", which is a very loaded term) a seat if no one spontaneously offers her one. But I like to think that we still live in a world where people let pregnant women sit down.
/r/MensRights20/01/15 11:17 PM

So everyone should avoid doing the right thing, for some reason?
/r/MensRights20/01/15 11:09 PM

Pregnant women, like senior people, don't necessarily have the same stamina as, say, a non-pregnant woman, or a man in his 20-30s. And I don't have to tell you what could happen to either the pregnant woman and her baby if she were to fall over. That's why someone should give her their seat.
/r/MensRights20/01/15 11:03 PM
-4

Spreading your legs when you sit takes up more room. It's a courtesy to other people to avoid doing it, in a crowded carriage, for example. And PSAs are not law. This is not oppression. This is getting butthurt over nothing. Meanwhile, another thread in this sub argues that pregnant women should be made to keep standing if there's no seat left.

I'm glad someone is taking a stand for the men in that particular case! It's horrible to generalise in that way, not all men are rapists! That's clearly the main issue here! It's not that someone was raped.

You'd think joining the conservatives, as a liberal, wouldn't be easy. That's what I meant.
/r/MensRights17/01/15 05:32 PM

They are not encouraged to do both. Politics are still viewed by most as a "male" occupation. Voting is encouraged fairly equally for both genders (although the right to vote is not safe from the "stay in the kitchen" mentality), but running for office is definitely harder for women; trying to join an old boys' club, tainted by an old boys' mentality, is harder for women than it is for men. Just like it is harder to join for a liberal than for a conservative.

Fair enough. I think the sarcasm in the post was very much obvious, and it's actually a shame that most replies ignore the point of the post itself. Politics are indeed dominated by men. Maybe that's an issue.

The title of the post is "What women want from a 21st century man". Of course it's about what women want and what men "should" do. Try finding a "what men want from a 21st century woman" type post and you'll get the opposite vibe. This post is no more an attack on men than an opposite post would be an attack on women. You don't have to do what the people writing these posts tell you to do.
