There are a lot of very ugly things about India that I will not be silent about but I would never judge any individual or even the culture as a whole because of those things. All cultures have their evils, some more than others and in varying degrees. India has just not caught up to modern times in many ways, hopefully we don’t destroy the planet before we all get this shit figured out. I would certainly not like if you judged me based on the worst of American culture.

Well if we're doing all that great stuff and our national life expectancy is still going down because only the well-off have access to it, maybe we need to find a way change that. Anyhow, the insurance industry will fight tooth and nail to increase their profit. That means they're standing between you and your doctors wishes and charging you for it.

So you mean to say that the option of just forgoing insurance all together provides competition to the healthcare industry and that's your rationale for maintaining the profit motive on your health. It's like as if Comcast and Verizon and Charter ran healthcare, you just switch providers or go without, easy. And you'll die if it doesn't work out in your favor or maybe go bankrupt if you're lucky, but they're gonna make billions anyhow because they're in control of the entire industry.

The health insurance companies wouldn't, they'd be gone, the drug companies would be negotiated with, as other countries do, so their prices wouldn't result in people dying. Hospitals wouldn't be overcharging for services they may not even provide. The list in cost savings go on forever once you remove the profit motive from peoples health.
