I had a nasty bike crash a few years back, breaking a number of bones and coming off looking like absolute shite for a couple of months, with casts and a sling to make it extra obvious. Not a single woman offered me a seat that entire time. On one trip I was really struggling to stand up and in a crazy amount of pain, and the bus driver must have seen through his mirror and came back and demanded someone give me a seat. That's life as a bloke for you.

The entire pay gap argument has been debunked many times, but that's another matter. The NHS has a system of pay scales for each role, meaning that everyone's base take home pay is the same for the same job at the same level. However, extra hours, nights, weekends, etc make a big difference. Anecdotally, male nurses do a huge amount of overtime at lower levels. As others have suggested, the term 'earnings gap' would be much more appropriate.
