Same shit in South Korea, the groom is required to buy a house and gifts for the inlaws. The problem is that there is a housing bubble and if you buy a house you will likely lose it or lose equity on the house. The Chinese people are dumb as fuck they buy houses and codos they don't live in so this creates even more of a housing bubble not only in China but also USA, Canada and other countries. I suggest you don't bother with hookups and if you do never have sex at your place. Never let a woman come to your place. If you want her to leave and she doesn't want to it can get ugly. In my city a very feminist city it's not very hard because most women don't want to be friends or have serious relationships unless you're making 6 figures.
