Interesting exchange you had here. I came to this post generally leaning on the side of OP (although somewhat on the fence) but your exchange/comments with this other commenter are very valid and have pushed me off the fence. I can appreciate your approach and can now better appreciate the overall approach of this sub. Thanks.

“Attractiveness is not just about someone wanting to screw you.” No. It simply means that you’re free to disagree or disregard my opinion, and I won’t care. As I mentioned above, I’m of the opinion that “retard” shouldn’t be used in any manner (especially not a derogatory one). You (apparently) disagree, as is your right, but I don’t care enough to make my view more attractive to you. We’re clearly worlds apart in matters of opinion (especially in what is considered respectful dialogue) and ther…

“You want silenced opposition” No. I want consistency. If profanity is unacceptable, then why isn’t baseless name-calling? I would settle for respectful opposition. My comment about not trying to offend anyone was simply because the written word can be easily misinterpreted. Tone is easily misconstrued. Didn’t want anyone to misinterpret my original comment as anything more than curiosity, and sincere questions. (I’ll also add that I’m not trying to make myself attractive to anyone in this sub….…

I think this post was needed. It helps clarify things that aren’t always obvious in the sidebar. However, I’d also suggest that readers expect consistency in this sub, and we don’t always get it. I’ll give two examples: the post that I believe you’re responding to here. In the comments of that post, OP called someone a name (that I won’t repost here) which I imagine violates the “be respectful” rule. That comment was not removed. But even that rule is broken by the mods themselves, with referenc…

This is an interesting analysis, although I don’t agree with all of it (for example, you can apologize and take responsibility for a problem; I don’t know why you made it an either/or situation). My question: do you feel that we (as Christians) tend to apply this to the choosing of a leader (in elections)? Or do we largely fail at this? I can’t help but feel someone like Trump fails on many of these points, and yet many Christians tend to support him. If we tend not to apply this to elections, h…

Are stats needed? It’s not a specific relationship issue; he’s just asking for general dating advice unrelated to a particular relationship. I think the mods might have to make this rule more clear, to avoid future confusion.

I think you can appreciate that you’re oversimplifying. I get that you’re trying to make a point but Jesus washing others’ feet was an act of humility, and it would be very much a stretch to interpret that as abuse. The fact that you’re trying to argue how culture could frame it as abuse is not something I really want to touch. Again, if this was someone’s marriage, and it ended in divorce, a judge would presumably be smart enough to understand that this isn’t abusive, and also that context is e…

I don’t know. If Job talked like that to his wife every waking minute of every single day, would you consider that abusive? A divorce court judge would probably weigh that, if it got to that point. If Jesus called Peter Satan every hour of every day, I’d probably abandon Jesus. But because Jesus was loving and looked out for the interests of his followers, Peter is able to think “what have I done to be rebuked so severely on this one occasion? I want to know!” And not react in an exaggerated man…

Is there a biblical basis for having kids? In many Christians’ opinion: yes, when Adam and Eve were told to go forth and multiply. I don’t think it boils down to simply “make sure you never want kids or you’ll regret it.” We should consider the Christian context when answering.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
