It's to protect who has the most to lose. Don't get joint accounts. Don't commingle money or inheritances or he can claim more in a divorce. If he stops working, get out or you may have to pay alimony. If he has a mental health disorder he may get alimony. If he gets a disabiling injury while married he may get alimony. If you put the down payment on a house and he does not, keep a record of it in case you divorce so you can get that money back.

I married "down" and we are divorced. Over time he grew resentful of my success in my career. (Eye roll) He liked the lifestyle enough to try for alimony and a payout as he "had grow accustomed to his lifestyle." - Didn't get either. I was never accepted by his family. BTW I live simply and Walmart is great. Have I seen it work- yes, my parents If you get married- get a prenup.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
