I lived in Germany as a student 2011-12. I have fond memories of that time. Ok obviously the sketchy parts of Frankfurt etc were shitholes but all the small to medium sized towns were always spotless. I’m sorry but not surprised to hear that everything has gone downhill considering what has happened to Germany over the last decade.

You can live comfortably in most states with a 40-50k salary if you are single. As long as you know how to live within your budget. Completely depends on the state. Even within a large state like California the salaries are wildly different depending on which part you live and what industries/companies are nearby.

This just isn't true. Where I live house prices dropped between 30-80% depending on the area after the financial crash in 2008. There are people who bought at the peak of the market who are still in negative equity. If they sold now, after making mortgage payments for an entire decade, some would still make a loss.
