| -3 | What actually is the patriarchy?Patriarchy, is patriarchy theory. The issue with patriarchy theory isn't falisability per se, it's still useful as an analytical lens, a framework of understanding. The issue with patriarchy theory occurs when it becomes the only theoretical framework used to understand a problem. That's when it becomes dogmatic. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 09/05/26 09:15 PM |

Do men and women express emotions differently? If so, why is the female way of expressing emotions seen as the default?Just to clarify, I said that from a semantic, and logical position in response to your question. i.e. Your question was "why is the female way of expressing emotions seen as the default?" I was saying that generally men do not express emotion (non-expression) while women generally do, but "expressing" emotion is the default (regardless of female or male). | 19 | Do men and women express emotions differently? If so, why is the female way of expressing emotions seen as the default? This is complicated to answer, but generally speaking yes. Women tend to be more expressive, men more stoic. Women report more intensity particularly for sadness/depression, men likely underreport how they feel. Women tend to be more empathetic, and are better at picking up on the emotions of others. Men are more likely to have alexithymyia (difficulties in feeling/identifying emotions). | 5 | Thoughts on this more nuanced definition of patriarchy?Patriarchy is a framework, used to better understand the complex idea of gender inequality. It's a scientifically unfalsifiable, heuristic tool of analysis. Not a "truth". | 29 | The way feminists deriveconclusions is weird as heck. The answer is because feminism (both ideologically and academically) is prone to dogma. That has happened because the frameworks that Feminism is built on, patriarchy theory etc., are unfasfiable and unscientific. That doesn't mean they're of no value, (I think they're very valuabe) but just that the value of using them is in using them comparatively. They're simplistic ways of understanding complex problems. I think the issue here is that we are ironically "too feminist" lol. It's certainly more challenging online, which is why I referenced IRL, but thats not a view that holds with much if any of the academic discourse that's focused on how to counter other types of extremist ideologies (and lets be honest even feminist extremists aren't picking up AKs to gun down men) that's been published since the rise of ISIS. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 23/09/24 11:30 AM
This sub being perceived as anti feminist isn't necessarily the real issue people have with this sub. I think the issue here is that we are ironically "too feminist" lol.Because you'll be immediately dismissed as nothing more than a misogynist and then ignored. If your aim is to do nothing only scream into male space echo chambers, rather than actively counter the issues you point out, it's a great plan. If you actually want to change anyones perspectives (on anything), then showing knowledge of their perspective, and then outlining its flaws is paramount. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 23/09/24 10:00 AM
This sub being perceived as anti feminist isn't necessarily the real issue people have with this sub. I think the issue here is that we are ironically "too feminist" lol.I disagree. I did some introductory sociology and gender studies classes and whenever I do speak with feminists offline there's two reactions I get. Immediate hostility/derision when I say that I don't identify as a feminist, but as an egalitarian. Surprise when they realise I'm gender conscious, familiar with at least the basic concepts of feminism, able to use their vernacular, able to delineate academic feminist perspectives (as important a field as any for research), and historic perspective… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 23/09/24 09:51 AM
Why aren't there more bisexual men?I love people like you on Reddit | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 11/09/24 10:08 AM
First time I've seen a feminist defend men from another feministFeminist examinations of social issues can be quite valuable if they are mixed with a more materialist philosophy imo. "Whenever a theory appears to you as the only possible one, take this as a sign that you have neither understood the theory nor the problem which it was intended to solve." Karl Popper. I value feminist perspectives because they provide a simple, easy to use, framework I can apply to analyse the world, and better understand it. I value right wing frameworks for the same reason. … | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 22/08/24 11:53 PM
This Redditor was taken to the doctor by his mother for an examination when he was 14. His mother gave the doctor's 12-year-old daughter permission to be in the room and watch him while he was naked being examined. The Redditors mocked him for being bothered by the daughter being in the room./r/ireland? | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 15/08/24 05:08 PM
"We have allowed the demonisation and dehumanisation of male refugees. They are victims too"Good old fashioned classism! The joys... I don't know if you're familiar with American culture historically, Holy shit! An American, on Reddit, cognisant that other cultures exist and that the world (and this site), and the people in it aren't all American!!! Are you a unicorn too? I see why you don't fit in here haha. I drifted from /r/mensrights a long time ago, found it far too toxic (including passively) - it was poisoning my view of women entirely. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 04/08/24 08:29 PM
"We have allowed the demonisation and dehumanisation of male refugees. They are victims too"Thanks for your perspective and sorry to hear. What's a normie here? Cisgendered & heteronormative? That said, I'm unsurprised to hear that someone who identifies as a liberal may feel unwelcome on a left wing platform though? | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 04/08/24 07:35 PM
Has anyone seen a surge in "feminists" saying men should pay for everything?I didn't read it that way, but thats fair. My bad! | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 04/08/24 07:12 PM
"We have allowed the demonisation and dehumanisation of male refugees. They are victims too"I'm relatively new to this sub (although not mens spaces on reddit), so truthfully i don't see your perspective. Can you elaborate? | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 04/08/24 06:58 PM
Has anyone seen a surge in "feminists" saying men should pay for everything?Any last vestiges of unequal rights for women were gone by the 1970s Careful with the over-generalisations. right about time for the cosmic balance to favor us That's literally what we're condemning feminists for in this thread. An eye for an eye isn't equality. This is meant with respect. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 04/08/24 06:19 PM
"We have allowed the demonisation and dehumanisation of male refugees. They are victims too"As I said, my country has a larger problem with unchecked migration than the Netherlands. Reality is subjective, and you are simply echoing the point this article is refuting. That is not to say that all asylum seekers are honest or deserve to remain, there are chancers and those that abuse us, but denouncing them all as animals is literally one of the most disgusting things I have seen on this subreddit. You see them as sub-human. Your attitude is part of the problem. You are advocating for the… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 04/08/24 10:15 AM
"We have allowed the demonisation and dehumanisation of male refugees. They are victims too"Dehumanisation of asylum seekers is not something I expect to see on a left wing subreddit, and that's coming from someone who's country has a much larger problem with this issue than the fucking Netherlands... | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 04/08/24 09:57 AM
Liberal Feminist Attitude And Ideology ScaleYou are supposed to rate them, on a scale 1-6(?) of agreement/disagreement. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 02/08/24 04:21 PM
Why I can’t call myself a feministI don’t want equality. I want liberation from men’s oppression. That’s what feminism is about. No response from feminists to correct this misandry. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 30/07/24 02:44 AM
