In the last 3 days, I've had completely unknown accounts comment on posts I made more than 6 months ago. You don't even follow leftwingmaleadvocates. I'm gonna guess you're probably a bot or troll. Either way, take care of yourself. It's getting rough out there.

Honestly, you sound like me and like half of the other girls I knew at your age. Most girls go from ages 9-death hearing about how anything female-coded sucks and everything male-coded is necessary and utilitarian and awesome. It's a pretty narrow view of the world and we could have a whole book or two dedicated to just that. What helped me was that I still had my toe dipped in feminism at the time which was a reminder that maybe the red pill (before it was called red pill) is just one, narrow s…

Maybe. But then it doesn't really strike me as ENM. It just seems like it's more about keeping score at that point? But I agree, that can be a part of negotiating boundaries.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates29/01/24 08:06 PM

I think a lot of the commenters here are thinking of ENM from a male perspective (seemingly, I'm happy to be wrong), with the assumption of the "top" men having relationships with multiple women. However, in most ENM couples I've met, (maybe your experience is different) both men and women are having relationships with multiple other men and women, so the idea of one sex "hoarding partners" doesn't play out in practices where the ENM goes both ways (and some participants are also trans, and I do…

I'm sure it would. I do get confused why people are more willing to believe strangers on the Internet about these things more than give their spouse the benefit of the doubt. I mean, I have some doubts about my husband, but I know they're self-imposed and I try to keep it in check, so I kinda get it. I guess I just can't imagine what it's like to let those beliefs run all over the years you have had with that other person though. You don't need to explain yourself though. I'm more just speaking …

I mean, how is she? How is her well-being after that treatment from you that you were describing?

I mean, you're absolutely describing emotional abuse. You're manipulating her emotions for your benefit to her detriment. What else would you call that?

The point of the post is anti-feminism. Feminism, in every iteration I have ever encountered, is left-wing. Hence my confusion.

This is so confusing to read. I became left wing because I became a feminist. I became a feminist as a direct result of how traditional/conservative values view women as inferior beings. All the anti-woman/anti-feminism in here makes me think this sub is just a tradcon sub in disguise. No one here talks about anything other than hating feminism. I don't even see left-wing political thoughts discussed.

I agree with your ultimate premise and your last paragraph entirely. I grew up in a very sexist (religious, conservative) household where women actively were seen as "having their place" and deviation from that meant you were a slut, whore, or a 'bad woman'. Seeing women as less capable or less logical than men was treated as the norm. Yet, I watched my dad and mom both work full time for most of my childhood, except my mom was also expected to do all the household and childcare duties, and Dad …

I'm also against conscription, and my next anecdote will be discussing the U.S. military. That being said, if conscription does exist women should be allowed to die for their country, too. My sister used to be big into ROTC. She went on a field trip to San Diego while in high school (pre 2011) and they went and spoke with officers about future military positions, and of course they performed some drills with other schools, etc. Now, I know you don't know my sister, but she was (and is) incredibl…

Except it wasn't just top men acting in oppressive ways. For instance, my grandma was never allowed to grow her hair out long because her husband wouldn't let her. He was a regular guy. A veteran. A school superintendent. Not a bad guy. But he still dictated what she could and could not do with her life. Do you think I hated my grandpa just because I can acknowledge this? I don't and never have hated him. Would I say he oppressed my grandmother and her free will? Yes, yes he did. There is nuance…

I'm also from the Midwest and am definitely feminist and I think I'd probably share a lot of approaches that your friends and family have. I do wonder how much regional cultures play into expression or understanding of the contexts surrounding different issues. I'll be honest, all the feminists I know are so reasonable that when I get online and see all the hate against feminists (which also frequently spirals into hate against women) then I really shut down in wanting to hear the "other side" (…

I see your point and it's fair, and I've even felt that way posting as a feminist in that sub at times and have had to step back. Though I feel this sub absolutely dismisses anything about feminism at all and all it does is criticize it. And since I wouldn't have half the rights or freedoms I have now without feminism, this sub just seems like it's meant to hate on women's equal rights and the intrinsic equal worth of women to men. Dude, it is not demonizing someone's sexuality to feel uncomfortable under their gaze. My ex's stepdad tried coming onto me once when I was 19. He was in his 40s. I was terrified, vulnerable, extremely uncomfortable, and then I was blamed for it. I had expected that, since he was an adult, he would be respectful, but he wasn't. Me being uncomfortable and harmed by that is in no way demonizing men's sexuality. I'm allowed to have feelings about things, too.

We do. I'm all about a men's movement if it doesn't turn into something that takes away from women's equality. That's why I'm happy for mens lib and don't like men's rights. MRAs told me I should be allowed to be raped by my husband if it's on private property. Shockingly, I'm not about that.

Sorry I'm late to the conversation, but I just gotta say that that is a fascinating thesis truly. I wish you luck! I also wonder if, in the U.S. at least, if that same mentality more saliently permeates into suburban and urban cultures too, harkening back to that "rugged individualism". I travel for work in a three county range, so I work with urban, suburban, and rural communities and I see much of this same mentality in all environments, though it is notably more intense with my rural clients.

I'm married now, so it's too late for that, I'm afraid. I ultimately wanted marriage, but I also wanted to explore sexually, too. However, I heard all the stories about how men don't value women if they slept around and that I wouldn't be 'wife material', and that kept me away from exploring sexually. I eventually wanted someone to be with long-term. But now that I have a loving relationship, I still have constant nagging thoughts of "what if" and feelings of FOMO. I know they're just feelings, …

Honestly, as a woman who wanted to sleep around, but didn't because of slut-shaming, it's hard to not be frustrated reading his responses, but at the same time, I do get it. Sexual exploration should be for everyone. But even women don't get to sexually explore like men assume. There are many of us that haven't slept around because of a very real stigma that is attached to us if we do it. I get it, but it's frustrating.

I'm still dealing with red-pill trauma from all my peers and my ex who used to preach those same bullshit lies in the early 2000s before it was called red-pill. That shit fucks you up. If anything my biggest opposition to your point here is that it's not that we shouldn't push women towards STEM, it's that I think more diverse and accessible education for all is the only way we can proactively combat fascism (women and men in STEM together make this a stronger force to oppose). However, I highly believe we need to promote other educational paths and options for men. As a social worker, I desperately want to see more men in social work. The profession requires men because we se…

Yeah, I don't know any serious feminist who believes in biological determinism outside of TERFS (which is not a group I associate with and they hold distinctively non-feminist views despite wanting the benefits of the name) OR it's just some angry girl who has no idea what feminism is outside "yay women", and if that's the case that person is literally ignorant and shouldn't be using the word, but they are (again, cause they're ignorant). I don't really have any interest in "being one of the good ones". I have interest in correcting narratives that people believe that are entirely false. Someone earlier linked me information from a men's rights page trying to say I know nothing of feminism and that I'm blind to the bad. It makes me think that people are purposely searching for biased sources to understand feminism through. So, I guess you can say I'm not interested in a tag/label under my name. Who are these prominent individuals? If they were so prominent, why have I never heard about them in feminist circles? You would think an influential feminist would have her ideas discussed amongst other feminists because they would share those views, yet I don't see any advocacy in feminist circles to remove men's rights. And feminism has done plenty of good things for men, too. Queer theory developed from feminism and I see lots of men's liberation advocates utilizing those principles. Feminis…

Going from "harsh responses" to "they hate men" is jumping from A to K and misses so much nuance. There is no misogyny that I see in this specific conversation, but there are cherry-picked definitions of feminism to paint it entirely as evil that are unfortunate to see in a left-wing sub.

I really, and truly believe you are wrong. Most feminists don't abandon it because we actually do believe in equality and we don't want something that has personally liberated us to become a misandrist platform. So this functions on two levels- 1.) If I abandoned calling myself a feminist, then I would be allowing misandrist rhetoric to become the norm. It's like when blue voters leave red states and the state becomes more red. I believe in the integrity of achieving equality and I won't abandon…

No movement is morally perfect and pure, but I absolutely see plenty of feminists recognize the issue with the Duluth model. Additionally, I've seen feminists draw a line between TERFs and equality-focused feminists. These are both examples of how individual feminists have recognized harm from past rhetoric and make attempts to change it and those efforts are culminating into larger group efforts. There's a feminist group at my local college that is advocating against male circumcision. Just bec…

You are absolutely correct, and I understand the hesitation given a lot of propaganda trying to show feminism as a corporate pill pusher (when it's absolutely not), but it's frustrating to see from a left wing sub. The whole reason I originally got out of my conservative roots and pursued both feminism and left-wing philosophies is due to seeing how the conservative ideologies lacked nuance and were incapable of seeing gray area. I'm a feminist and no, male brains and female brains are not the same. However, I do think the differences are overstated when it comes to behaviors. Most behavior is more accurately explained through socialization, not biological determinism. As for brain differences, men and women have different make ups of gray matter vs white matter. Additionally, it's been hypothesized that, due to women's smaller skulls, the brain evolved different ways of achieving neural connections simply due to less av…

A concept that helped me was being realistic about time and how much can happen in any given set of time. Think about how much has happened in your life in the last four years. Take a dive down memory lane/look at pictures/etc. So much can and will happen in the next four years. And the four years after that. Life isn't over at 30. Not even close.

Legit! I still wear make up occasionally, but not in my day-to-day anymore. I stopped regularly wearing make-up and as long as I've washed my face and done my regular skincare, I look almost as good as I do with make up. Oof, girl, you and me have really similar experiences on this one. I started letting go a little after my dad died. Not just background characters. I've never seen an actual person (irl) who practices feminism and thinks women are incapable and perpetual victims. I also identify as feminist and feel exactly as the OP feels and I get the egalitarian argument. I'm a feminist and this film is an excellent film to watch, not only because it's utterly heartbreaking, but more people should know this man's story. I also argue that this film is also a film that actually highlights the equality of men and women specifically because it shows how women can become capable criminals and men can be victimized and taken advantage of.
