I saw a film recently, has very strong female characters. Thought it was a case study in how to write women. The film? I love Boosters. Boots Riley has my support.

Just remember that billionaires own the media. Right wing extremism has historically had easy messaging (hate and division) and vastly benefits the ultra wealthy (as they get to sell weapons and raw resources plus war sends undesirables to their death). I realize society turning on men/boys is problematic, but the source of that sentiment is messaging owned by billionaires. I like this subreddit because you tend to educate people on what’s happening, but i rarely see anything talking about why. …

Who owns the media companies that push the culture war, divide and conquer techniques? Tax billionaires and shut down the bleeding out of the middle class. Wealth inequality is the problem. Everything else is designed to distract us from this fact. (I firmly believe the battle of the sexes is propaganda designed to weaken the capabilities of united people). “Unite the clans. Unite us.” Tax the billionaires.

This would make sense if not only because men have a larger window of attractiveness, 30+ years, whereas when judging by vapid internet culture, women have a smaller Leonardo DiCaprio sized window.

They “lost” cuz this beautiful woman is “having it all” and they’re (also, me) typing on the internet. The fact it’s a boy is just cultural war dog whistling; these fucking nerds. Women seem so much happier raising families than wage-slaving bullshit corporate ladders (my sister is m’example here). Boy? Girl? Need em both, no? (For now.)

Her role is to educate women, bring attention to the topic . . . Comments calling men simps for following or otherwise granting some level of attention to a woman (who happens to state apparently not-so-obvious facts about men) are counterproductive.

Nice retort, got lots of words on the matter, maybe going for thoughts, maybe deeds? Just seeding that: thought, word, and deed. Order of magnitude of difference moving down that lil list, and the reverse is true of the impact they have on our (miserable) existence.

People really do, as long as it doesn't take any more than words. I guess, words follow thoughts, mostly. Deeds however, are not assigned equitably. My woman remarked “women shouldn’t vote,” but im not entirely sure where that’s coming from. She’s smiling right now, *but the amount of work, read other people’s work, read men’s work, that I leverage, c’mon, how is that the bar? I think you’re right, that a child isnt going to understand nuance, however, adults do, and are able to have discussions with these future adults. So yes, many people will see this at face value and think: men do ruin everything! but i still believe the point of the movie is that life is grey, complicated; black and white understanding is childish and functioning society demands / requires coaching/edumacation to bring minds into the light, so to speak.

I saw it at a drive in, meaning i drove into a sea of pink, hundreds of young people about to be hit with some critical questions. Seeing them all pre-celebrating - - not realizing the impact this film was going to have just in anticipation - - made me think it was an important moment, and in retrospect, i kinda enjoy all of the straw-man deliberation that has come from what was a reasonably well-constructed/executed look at the failings of modern society.

Leaving early was a mistake, immfho, and i haven’t understood the blow-back on this film . . . Ze film directly addresses the disposability of men and shows the consequences to not giving venue for marginalized voices. The women live in a fantasy land, only made possible by the dreams of girls and/or women, one which perhaps develops from their same feelings (rather real or misguided) of being presently disenfranchised in the Real World; when Barbie faces reality, the situation seems dark, not i…

It’s why i liked the new Dragon show: those women are powerful in their own way, conflicted / complicated yet physically weaker than male characters, but still shown being tough i.e. giving birth. Something about big black dudes: i just trust them more than most people. Like in public, strangers all around. It seems like the world has a strong love/hate relationship with them and they have to develop a sense of who they are, early on, combined with self control, as people are far less forgiving of them. No other way to put it, in my gut, i tend to trust big black dudes.

My apologies for being unclear: disagreement, in and of itself, is not an acceptable contribution. Care to illuminate us on your unique and valuable perspective? Denying sex/gender differences is a fool’s errand and i wont stand for it. What those differences are in a material sense is still up for discussion, but the fact that differences exist is just a (to be celebrated) part of our reality. Agreed, it’s ludicrous overreach, but i just wanted some discussion on what they’re supposed to do . . . Ideally, one person’s success is not at the expense of another, however, competition for limited resources sometimes renders one person’s gain as another’s loss. In fact, i wont hear anyone arguing that we have abject abundance, like unlimited space/time/resources, because currently, we do not. So sure, point on the inequities, but i want discussion of bigger picture, like on a longer timelin…

I think here toxic masculinity is not a black eye to men exclusively. Frankly, women are just as likely (if not more so) to expound on the tenants of traditional masculinity. So the fact this so-called toxic masculinity exists is just a place-holder for the conditions in which our civilization is operating in, at least that’s how i took it. So if you were sexually assaulted, and dont want to be laughed out of the room, what would you call it?
/r/MensRights18/06/19 05:31 PM

Gentlemen: while i recognize the inequities here, my question is: what do you propose women do otherwise? Women and men both have their respective strong suits, they’re not really able to go work on a ship or work effectively at trades, etc. I certainly do not believe academia would benefit from an exclusive female invasion, but this kind of work is well suited for their particular qualities. So while it’s ridiculous that any organization would limit their pool of potential hires, women in the a…

Huh, moment of illumination. uh, i guess im imagining stereotypes here: stronger male with our smaller female penetrator that i imagine can be nudged away (unless one is fully fettered) v male on male where your comment makes me realize that male on male “consent but not like that” situations are probably very real/occurring. Still, appreciate the insight. On a different level i kinda think sex-dolls and VR are gonna open a whole new door to weird aggressive sex .. . but in reallife, in person, …

Both men and women need to have a place where they feel useful and necessary and nearly anything that threatens that feeling leads to kneejerk reactions of fear and blaming the ‘other.’ Instead of spending limited energy on breaking ourselves up into little groups, and finding fault in ‘them,’ it would be more productive to see men and women as both wanting to feel useful, be heard, have a society that values their “unique” contributions (and then figure out who says otherwise, directly or indir…

People must feel needed and useful: dildo/vibrator “replaces” men as a major pleasure source for women. This fear is as ridiculous as the implied fear suggested by the article: that a woman can be supplanted for men’s needs, and a fake plastic non-woman stands (lays) in as the recipient of male fantasy. Both need to be needed, and sexual tools outside of the binary cause us to be concerned for our usefulness (dont get me started on artificial insemination and testtube babies). While many men fea…
