As a medic who’s been violently assaulted - yeah, jail time. Prosecutors refuse to hear cases all the time because they use some bullshit lines like “oh, risk of the job” ... Like. Sorry Carl, if I come up and just crack you in your stupid bald ass head can I get out of the charges and arrest by claiming it was a risk of your job and you knew what you signed up for? Fuck off with this. Like, all the way.

We also have EMTALA laws that guarantee treatment and stabilization regardless of ability to pay. Billions of dollars in free healthcare are given out each year. While I agree that it’s dumb, and can be expensive , home births are never the answer. Ever.

Blame lies with the parents as well. It’s legal in 23 states to practice as one without any sort of license, training or education....which, doesn’t mean you can’t be held accountable, but, yeah .. it’s fucked up. Homebirths are unbelievably dangerous, and often lead to complications. Imagine it being 2019 and we have hospitals staffed with excellent medical capabilities and providers and y’all still think it’s 1819. Unreal.
