She was probably broke – you mentioned she was living at home with her mom at age 28. She also sounds like she has issues. How'd you even find her? lol.

The anecdote you brought up is nowhere similar to the one OP described. Here you paid for stuff, and a girl offered to pay for other things as well. It's more the level of respect that is being conveyed. If a girl basically dismisses you for sharing in a first date's bill, then she doesn't respect you enough, and sees you at best as a money machine for her enjoyment.

the point is that she reciprocrated. There's nothing wrong with paying for her if she returns the favor. Don't be autistic.

In which case, she will probably hire a hitman to kill you. Think this is too good to be true? There are few cases like this, but they exist, and all you need to be is another statistic, and that's the end of the road for you. You also have a chance of being killed from lightning – doesn't mean it's gonna happen.

At least no alimony. I think a reasonable child support is fine for a kid if you really want it. It's alimony and splitting any assets where I draw the line personally. Figure a divorce happens say when the kid is 11 years old – that's only 7 years of child support. Not a big deal imho.

How is that possible? Unless she didn't work or something or if it is child support you're talking about.

Marriage completely takes that away from you. Unless she has makes more money and has more to lose.

Marry if she makes more than you and has more than you.

When doing an analysis just be sure to look at total net worth, and say 7% passive growth in any money you would be earning if you didn't become an airline pilot/captain (example – the 8 years of lost income + $200,000 in debt etc).

The point about making $400K as a specialist taking several years is noted – that's another few years to reach full income/productivity it seems. The other concern is I would only seriously do it if I could get into a field like orthopedic surgery, radiation oncology, dermatology, gastroenterology, etc. My calculations looking at net income (after fed/california tax let's say) shows that the programmer makes a little more than the internist/family practitioner, however, the specialist making $30…

You're stupid as hell. You explicitly linked and recommended this: https://www.soylent.com/product/drink/ and this is what it shows – 20 grams of soy protein, one of the worst kinda of protein to be consumed. On top of that your trader joes argument is bunk as well, because in sanfrancisco, if you were to add up all of that produce and meat, it would be well over 50. In fact it would add up to something around 75-100 per week. Finally the job and location you chose were interestingly on the fron…

Soylent is soy based. Your main post linked to soylent.com and it says literally on the page that it uses soy protein. Food is an integral part of life. If you can't take out the time to go to the grocery store, and spend an hour or two a week to cook, then you're doing it wrong. I live in San Francisco, which has one of the highest cost of living, and Trader Joe's doesn't cost more than $50/wk for a 3 pounds of ground beef, 3 pounds of chicken thighs, frozen veggies, frozen fruits, some nuts, a…

texas has no income taxes – but texas, arizona are really hot, and utah, oklahoma seem really backwards no? Didn't realize that the research triangle of north carolina is so humid, but good to know!

Yeah – you'll make $120K starting, the field has just started to take off, and now is around the time to get in before everyone else. If you can do insight data science, it'll probably be the best career move you'll ever make. I suggest you look at this infographic Check out zipfianacademy.com as well in case you're not able to get into/do insightdatascience.com . I also pmed you a curriculum you can gloss over. Basically, python or R (with python being preferred) and the data analytics techniqu…

what do you do when you don't have anyone you can trust (no pun intended) with your trust. Do you have your lawyer do it? I mean the only people I see worth entrusting it would be a mom or dad, but if they're not around, then it seems moot. Also, trusts seem like they're for really rich people – is it worth going through the trouble of setting one up if you have say less than a million dollars in assets or less? What level of net worth do you need for a trust to be truly necessary?

what are the downsides of a asset-protection trust as far as taxes, inheritance, any risks with it, etc. go? Dont' you need somsone who you can trust since the trust can't be for you?

I know the ideas and concepts but have difficulty executing them – i.e. how and what to say and when. Yes, that comes from practice, but canned scripts I think help. Is Day Bang better than Bang alone if you just want to pick up girls in non-club environments?

These days it's more of an upper middle class field to begin with, given the protracted length of preparation required and the costs involved. It's a lot more of a gamble if you don't have anything propping you up - the stress of survival can eat the less supported alive. It's very high risk – I've noticed most of the kids who got in were upper middle class kids too. These days you have to do bachelors + post-bacc/special master's program to look good on paper. In my case, I went to a no name st…

Every few years some new modality comes out where you effectively have to relearn from scratch. The language may be the same, but the technology can be completely different. Look at the MEAN stack for instance compared to web development 4-5 years ago. So like OP said – it's not cumulative. The new technology is rather "disruptive." Sure there are some concepts that carry over no matter what you do, but for the most part, you have to learn new things. This gets harder the older you get, and empl…
