Two things stand out as successes: -Volunteered for the first time since moving to a new city six months ago. Great for my social life. It's very easy to talk to people. Fun experience too, it was with an outdoor group doing trail maintenance. Not gonna get shredded doing it but it's good to get outside and moving. -Cold showers. Instead of turning the shower on and tiptoeing in there, I walk into the bathtub THEN turn on the shower. My energy levels have been like a madman's. Blasted any hint o…

Sure enough. Dude looks like the room is too small for him. Thanks man. Good luck this year.

Plot twist: he's talking about Altuve... So do you think this is due to his confidence from being a top-tier player, an athlete's workout regimen, or consciously working on posture? I remember pitching as a teenager and feeling much more confident throwing to kids who hunched over or looked timid. Even though I was shit, I felt like I could crush kids who were scared. It was the opposite for tall or strong players. I probably threw softer and more carefully to them. Baseball seems to have this o…

Female CEO dominated companies performed 10% WORSE than the overall S and P 500 index. So I tried looking this up but could only find this article saying that women-led companies outperformed the S&P 500 by 226%. I'm NOT going to use this as a total counterpoint to your argument, because of survivorship bias. The article itself says: “There’s a lot of the theorizing around why the results are dramatically higher for the women, but most think it has to do with how hard women have to work to becom…

I spent a semester abroad during my junior year of college and when I returned to my American Dream suburban home with two cars and a yard, I just.....deflated. This is why everybody should, at least once in their life, go fucking travel somewhere. Helpx is a good site for volunteering abroad in exchange for free meals and accommodations. Haven't used it yet, but still vouching for it to get the ideas flowing in your head. OP hits the nail on the head here--Life in the States is a continuous cyc…

I meant, did you make a concerted effort to get fresh air more than normal? I play plenty of outdoor sports but wanted to know if maybe it was the humidity or something I didn't consider. Plus it's hard getting tons of fresh air time up north during the winter.

There is a sauna and steam room at my gym! I was actually thinking about doing that this week post-workout. Is it better to go: Lift>Shower>Sauna Lift>Sauna>Walk Home>Shower or don't do sauna after lifts? or no difference at all? Also on a hugeass probiotic and will definitely start asking to mooch my roommate's blender.

Whoa this actually makes a lot of sense, whether it's true for me or not. My sister gets eczema on her hands. She could also be a poor converter of beta carotene, and our problem could be related. Gonna look deeper into this.

Could you elaborate on the fresh air part?

Definitely. And keep in mind, part of it is just a lack of confidence and self-esteem, too. As it gets better you will notice a positive feedback loop of confidence. I have also noticed my longtime friends treating me the same, even when I talked to them like a dog with its tail between its legs. I'm thankful for them and you should be thankful for those friends of yours. I'd rather be hated for no reason than be invisible. With acne you're fucking invisible. But anyways, onwards to self-improve…

Didn't for me, but I've heard the same thing too. It's cheap and can't hurt, so might as well try it.

This is a great post. I've read a lot of literature on the topic, but didn't know about this one. Your post should be upvoted more. Anecdotally, my skin was best when I was eating less. And sleeping more, and less stressed, and more active, so I can't say for sure. But I will definitely apply this info!

Definitely better to go no soap than some shitty store brand soap that dries out your skin with its 89 chemicals. I'm on a specific skincare routine now, but I did no soap before. It didn't help, as I think it's a diet problem for me, but still worth trying for you. I'd recommend doing your research and getting a routine of products going.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah I've seen it do wonders on friends of mine. My concern, besides the side effects, is that it doesn't eliminate the underlying health problems in the first place. I've dramatically improved my skin already and think a different diet might be the death blow to it.

My brief story, posted here instead of the OP because it's not that important: I've had acne since age 16 (almost 21 now). I threw everything my dermatologist could at it, except accutane because he said it wasn't severe enough. Then (this is my theory), I quit all medicine because nothing was working. The antibiotics that I had been taking for over a year possibly killed all the good bacteria in my gut too. So whenever I'd consume something yeasty, like beer or pizza for college student me, it …

I'm plateauing right now, I think because of my mindset. I've devolved into habit. So I make it to the gym, yes, but improve pretty slowly. When you're in the gym, what gives you guys the killer instinct that gets that extra 5lbs up?

Observance Growing up, my dad told me the importance of this. I was raised pretty bluepill and awkward, but this means the neighbors admire my politeness and good behavior. I lived in a quiet, middle-class subdivision. I always played sports outside with the other kids in my yard, and my dad hangs out with the parents and uses his handyman skills to fix things.. By the way, out of the small group of neighbors that do know each other, my parents are the only ones not divorced, I'm the only kid th…

Being emotionless in the first place is a good bet.

You can be the best theorist without actually putting it into practice. I think I remember him mentioning that he wrote it more as a tool to defend yourself from others (though that might be him concealing his intentions!). You'd probably find the same problem with real life TRPers. I bet lots of people here (myself partially included) know about RP theory yet have not progressed as much as they could have.

One of the key points Greene makes in here is the usefulness of a bland facial expression, a "poker face." In this way you can hide your intentions behind the comfortable and familiar. He uses the example of nobody being able to read FDR's face. and for Talleyrand "Never was a face less of a barometer."

Like others said before: illustrate and exemplify. I remember when I first started reading TRP some fuck used that girl from East of Eden to talk about how women are deceiving. Problem is, she's an actual sociopath in the book who murders and deceives. That's a stupid connection. But you can be inspired by Frank Underwood and Don Draper without using it as scientific evidence. Especially for men who grew up without these strong male figures in their lives.

I wonder if this will make it to my Facebook news feed with as much outrage as that "10 Things Women Can Do to be More Attractive to Men" article. Like omg I can't even. Seriously like #7 wtf? AMIRITE

Exactly. It was a bitchy way of saying it, and I assume that's why it was a shit test. It's almost like if she asked respectfully like a normal person you would've responded respectfully! Fuckin mind blowing, right!?

What would your response be if she just asked nicely--something like "Hey could you slow down walking a bit?"

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
