By the same token, most house work and child.rearing is done by females. The whole fucking point is it shouldn't be a dick measuring contest. Both males and females should be treated equally and on merit. If a female wants to pave a road, or a male take 6 months leave to support the kid, no one should bat an eyelid.

Well in that we disagree. I also wonder the difference between advantage and special right?
/r/MensRights22/12/16 12:11 AM

Privilege is a "a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people." Hard to argue that being able to decide who is in the government isn't privilege. That is EXACTLY what I'm arguing. The reason, is that, by your own definition, privilege is a special right. I don't consider being able to vote a special right, but a basic right. Similar equal pay, or equality under the law and so on. Felons lose those rights once convicted (becoming a neg…

Were women denied the vote for ages, or were men privileged? In a math sense, are men starting at zero, with women (or lgbt or minorities) in negative numbers, OR do men have some greater then zero starting position? I argue it's zero. Further, I argue that many SJW / Feminist 3rd wave stuff, in a struggle to "be equal", instead of rising up to 0, are trying to pull men below it.
/r/MensRights21/12/16 09:12 PM

With 3rd wave feminism, I honestly think many females are blind to sexism. I got into a debate with a friend of mine re privilege of (white) men. Essentially she said males have privilege. She also said she had privilege because she's white. I called that bullshit. Its not privilege, its just "default". Privilege is something beyond rights, goes beyond default entitlements. Men are entitled to feel safe, to get health care, to ask for a raise - or whatever "privilege" people say we have. If fema…

Ditto. I consider myself egalitarian and left(ish). I don't agree with most thing on the right, and think Trump is a sexist piece of shit. I also happen to think its fucking horrific that a female can rape a male, then force him to pay child support. I don't even understand how this is odd. I support all people's rights. Gay, straight, women, men. Anything beside that is a bigot.

I prefer egalitarian to either feminist or MRA. Both males and females have genuine needs to be addressed. The thing is, any male needs are typically squashed with but patriarchy! So here's a few examples. There is legal precedent for females to rape an underage teen, and yet sue him for childcare payments. There are many males paying childcare for children not their own (after dna testing) Male breast cancer, ~1% of cases, is vastly overlooked to the detriment of the mental health of males that…

What is the fault in his reasoning? I've seen a few people say he's wrong and I'm trying to spot it. It reminds me of Data O'Briean who has a stand up comedy bit where the fear of zombies is at an all time high, but that doesn't mean we enact policy in case of an outbreak. Fear is subjective. Society has a duty to deal with objective harm.

The simplest thing to do is, if you see something that talks about gender in any way, reverse the genders and see if it still sounds fair. I don't consider myself an MRA, but an egalitarian. Regardless, it just means to call out bullshit gender generalisations when you see them. One important element to that is to not be hypocritical. So it means if you see someone attacking men, call it out. But equally, if you see someone attacking females, also call it out. It's all about equality across the …

They do however argue that all men have male privilege. They literally mean every single man. Soon to be taught in school in Australia. I consider myself an egalitarian and feel both males and females face some discrimination based on gender... but what worries me about (specifically) males is that pointing out male discrimination gets attacked. It's often treated as though males collectively are in a better place than females, and I find that to be a lie. This is why I dislike both extremes, bo…

If that's your belief, and I'm not saying whether I agree or not btw... But if YOU think that, then you should also agree Chris Gayle's comments were not harassment either. At which point there is a double standard, because Chris was well and truly attacked, yet this woman not a peep. The point that is the hypocrisy. As I said, either both right or wrong.

This is the same crap that West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle tried in his interview, and it caused a giant uproar about his sexist behavior followed by a very ironic "you can't blame him he's from the West Indies and they're sexist" response from a fair few media commentators. This woman was arguably "kinder" in her approach, but it's the exact same shit. Either both wrong, or both right.

I wonder if a male gets onto a "female only" carriage will it be a "I refuse to sit in the back of the bus" situation, or a "all males are pigs" situation?

Just be aware that like any collective of people, be it feminists or MRM or Americans or Males or whatever, you'll find awesome people and you'll find douche bags. The hardest thing to do is to not generalise your feelings against a collective group. So if a MRM member does give you shit, realise it's not representative of the whole. (So too with feminists). Good luck.

You're objecting to the same thing that i myself was objecting to? So... You're agreeing with me? I am literally lost here. Let me perhaps simplify it. 1: some gay people interpret "normal" to imply they are abnormal, take offence, and then enforce cisgender. I disagree. I believe normal means the median. 2: I had this debate with my gay sis who in the end agreed with me. 3: It's mostly people getting offended at what they think other people mean, when they actually don't.

Did you not read my this conversation? That's somewhat my entire point. Here, let me copy and paste my first post for you: If a person dyes their hair, it's dyed hair. But we don't have a word for "not dyed hair". It's just, hair. Or perhaps, "natural hair" or "normal hair" without putting horrible connotations on people that dye their hair.

I think the problem is that people when people say "normal" they aren't meaning "and therefore other people are not normal". What they mean is "the common form" or "the average" or "the majority". The "normal type". But people interpret that "normal, and therefore the others are abnormal -- that's wrong, so we need to use cisgender". It's mostly a quirk of the English language, which frankly is fucking stupid more than anything. And yes, I agree that everyone should be able to act and dress as t…

"She's 75 and she should be excused" No. No no fucking no. I've had this exact same argument at times before. You don't get a "being a cunt" pass because you're old. It does not happen. If you have a mental defect where you have the inability to know right from wrong in a social context, then you shouldn't be in public places where you could put people at harm as was the case here (physically and emotionally). Alternatively, if you do have the mental capacity to know right from wrong in today's …

I had a discussion about this with my sister (who's gay - and for the record, she just uses the word gay). Anyhow, essentially I said I can't understand why "cis" is a thing. She somewhat agreed but it's to stop people saying "normal" as opposed remove "abnormal" from gay and what not. I can somewhat understand that I suppose, but here's my retort. If a person dyes their hair, it's dyed hair. But we don't have a word for "not dyed hair". It's just, hair. Or perhaps, "natural hair" or "normal hai…

Anecdote. I was on a busy bus somewhat recently sitting in a one person seat designated for "elderly or disabled passengers." Two ladies got on the bus in roughly in their 50s. The first sat down behind me and the second stood. The one standing complained (loudly enough so I could hear) "I wish some of these men would give up their seats for their elders." I was in a particularly bad mood, so I didn't handle the situation with any tact. Instead, I turned and said something like: "I have a termin…

Whilst I agree that men's suits are uncomfortable, what needs to be understood is that high heels are, quite literally, physically bad for health. Over long periods of use they can cause back, knee, hip and foot issues. I think dress codes are acceptable, but not to the point of causing physical damage to a person. This can be chronic damage in the form of high heels, or acute damage in the form of heat exhaustion. I'd like to see smart casual more accepted. And flat enclosed shoes for everybody…

the more we engage, the less they can run their mouth offs unchallenged But they're going to do that anyhow. It's the same reason Dawkins doesn't debate young earth creationists. You can present all the facts about why they're wrong, and they're still going to scream from the pulpit "shut the fuck up you are wrong". I'd rather people just ignore them and stop giving them air time, rather than engaging and debating them. There's no debate to be had, they're wrong.

Well no, I think it would take a lot of smart people, and possibly a few law degrees, to get it sorted, but the idea is there. But as for "someone without kids", the point is either to incentivize or even outright force people to use their leave. Forcing is controversial I know, and I'm sure if that was the law that would end up as it's own thread here in /r/mensrights "New law forces men to take time off work!" :-) but the point is, from my mind there's only two fixes to this, but one of the fi…

Pretty much, yes, that would work. The concept is it would be identical for both males and females. The problem is at the moment males take less time off. Where there is actual maternity leave, females often get more time for that (both actually given more, and take more time) - but even other things such as sick time and facs days and so on, females tend to take more time off. Take a typical heterosexual household. Say mum and dad earn approx the same amount of money. Mum will then have 3 kids …

And that's essentially why the wage gap wont be fixed until they start promoting, or even forcing, males to take time off work. There's only two ways to fix the wage gap, either artificially pay women more than men, or encourage males to take time off work (via their entitlements). Essentially, males need to go on maternity leave, even single males. Yep that sounds crazy, but maternity leave needs to be thought of as "family leave" and be it either for a newborn baby of just for family life in g…

See, that's NOT what the medical opinion is, it's only 1/2 the story. There are pros and cons to any procedure. From taking paracetamol to routine circumcision of infant boys. When you weigh up all the pros and cons of circumcision, you then have an informed medical opinion. When a bunch of doctors get together and do it, it's called a medical review. This is going to venture into somewhat (potential depending on interpretation) sexist territory. I think what's at work here is the power of penis empathy! Think about it. If $40 stood between you and potentially scoring on a date, that would totally suck. Well if you could help out a bro in that situation, you'd be a god to that man. If you helped him, and he then still managed to score, that is worth it for sure. Shit if I could pay $40 to help a stranger and save his date that's my civic fuck…

I looked through that form, and I'm not sure I've drawn the same conclusions as you OP. It's language is very specific. It says Parent and Other Parent. It doesn't say Mother. That could simply mean the parent who is the primary guardian filling in the form, not necessarily the mother. In fact the word Mother doesn't appear in the document, but 53 times the word Parent does. If I went to the hairdressers with shoulder length hair and wanted a wash and a shampoo and tinting and my frayed ends fixed and I was there for 2 hours then maybe I might pay $200 or whatever the hell it is they pay. But when I go to the hairdressers (if I even go, normally it's just a quick clipper at home) it's a short back and sides, takes maybe 20mins tops. The cost difference is because of the workload difference.

That's actually one thing I really loved in GTA V. For all the crazy crap that Trevor Phillips did in that game, he was still really protective of Tracey. There was not a single scene where he made a single sexual innuendo about her, and in fact it went the other way, with lines such as "I used to bounce that girl on my knee when she was a baby." That was a brilliant decision by the writers. They could easily have written in some sort of sexual tension between Tracey and Trevor, but by NOT putti…

Aussie here. One thing still pisses me off with cancer awareness in Australia is our breast cancer programs. We have the Jane McGrath day at the cricket, and Breast Cancer Network Australia's logo is a female silhouette. Problem is males get breast cancer too (about 1% are males). This has lead to a statistically significant rate of suicides within male breast cancers which is hypothesised to be due to getting "female disease" (and there's anecdotal evidence to support this). I agree. The double standard exists because we (even us men) see males as sexual offenders. A photo of even one male kissing a child would be awkward, but most would assume father. A picture of two males kissing a child would probably cause media circus and possibly politicians / police. And I'm not using hyperbole here, I honestly think that would happen. I wonder how much of this relates to the "extra attention" females got in classrooms over the last decade or so. At the time there was a major "push" (even tv campaigns etc) to have females advance their school education. Like all things gender related, it needs to be approached with equality. This is why I'…

The only way MRA will get taken seriously is if we take the higher ground. We do take the high ground by not trashing women to support men, I don't think feminists take that bit seriously. And that in a nutshell is my argument. In threads in MRA (even in this thread) there seems to exist a concept of feminists = extremists and therefore we're intolerant of them. If this was true in 100% of the cases, I'd agree. But there's a lot of females, rightly or wrongly, that call themselves feminists that…

fact I'm not sure you know how that word works. You're applying rhetoric to, say, 40% of the population and thinking they all act the same. That's bullshit. I could just as easily say All conservatives are racist cunts But that's bullshit too. Some conservatives are racist cunts. Some, however, are not racist, but have differing opinions of security requirements, or in economy and taxation etc. I still disagree, but they're not racist. This is what bugs me about society these days. We're so fuck…

You just dumped Liberals into the one category. I'm a Liberal and staunch MRA. MRA issues are very much liberal issues.

Yeah I see your point. I was just in the mindset of "being equal", and I didn't mean it to imply that only males and females can be the parents (so obviously single parents and LGBT etc). Guess people hate my photoshop skills anyhow.

I'm no photoshop expert, MS Paint, but here ya go. Edit PS. LGBT community I did this quick and I was thinking with a male vs female mindset so I apologise if it's overly hetrosexual.

You're missing the point though (I don't mean that in a nasty way, just clarifying my hypothesis). It's not that male breast cancer should have mass ad campaigns, it's that the way female breast cancer is portrayed is that it only effects woman. Take prostate cancer. Females do not get prostate cancer because they don't have a prostate. Or similarly ovarian cancer does not effect men. But breast cancer does effect both genders (even if dramatically more women to men). I'm not saying the breast c…

Any chance male breast cancer will get a word in? As part of my nursing training, we had to look at a 'social issue that affects a minority" and I did it on male breast cancer. In Australia (and I'm sure elsewhere) breast cancer awareness is a big deal. They have ladies days at the cricket, pink logos, siluhette females, female spokes people. The breast cancer pamplet also talks about ovarian cancer. Interesting thing, male breast cancer, per capita, has the highest suicide rate amongst all canc…

Dude, it's comments like that that give mensrights a bad name. The idea is equality, and brining attention to real issues effecting men. Saying blatantly obvious sexist stuff isn't going to help this issue in any way. I'm not meaning this to be a douche, but I hope you see my point.

I kind of feel bad for everyone in this; B C and OP. I mean, B obviously we feel bad for given the situation. And OP because of the stress of being 'piggy in the middle'. But I feel bad for C because I'd assume she hasn't "lied" but somehow construed the events in her mind (possibly due to her history in the subject). My hunch is she was more drunk than you realised, but it still doesn't make it rape. There's no winners here and it's sad for all involved. I'd still advise B to go to a lawyer, or…

Just to clear up, the "skin" that is removed isn't normal skin. The foreskin is highly sensitive to light touch. It does also effect male sexual feeling (though to be objective, there are studies showing loss and gain). Point is though, it's not "just skin". Personal opinion: I'm totally against cicumcision unless medically needed.

I just found this video via upworthy and I'm with the OP, I hated it. She's creating a poem about, basically, inequality of genders and how she's forced, simply because she's a woman, into certain behaviours. In the process however she makes overwhelmingly judgmental generalizations about males. To me this is the very core of the problem with males and females, and male rights. Whilst it's true females do have gender issues that I am aware of and empathetic towards; we can't through the baby out…
