Yep. I'm not whinging about it either, but I, too, had girls act in ways toward me that would have gotten me crucified if I'd done them a woman. The worst was probably stalking me and acting crazy because I wouldn't sleep with her...and, of course, the whole time I knew that all she'd have to do is claim it was the other way around and I was screwed.

"toxic" is a handy word because if somebody uses it unironically and non-literally, I know I don't have to waste my time listening to them.

Standards for both dudes and girl-dudes are way unrealistic today. About 15 or so years ago I started noticing that even the secondary-character nerdy computer dudes in movies would actually be crazy muscular...and not a single dude in the movies ever goes to the gym.

"On the day Brett Kavanaugh was voted into the Supreme Court despite multiple, very credible accusations of sexual misconduct..." Funny that only the incredible ones made the news, then.

Why should someone have a modicum of decorum even when they find somebody really hot? Is that a serious question? I don't have a problem with humorously expressing one's attraction...but...that particular way of doing isn't "corny." It's gross. Which...I'm not saying it's a federal crime to be gross...but it is gross....
/r/MensRights07/01/19 03:39 AM

That actually seems a lot less gross to me.

Not if they're reasonably into it, as I said. Being totally not into it and still being expected to do it very frequently... Ew. Just not something I'm into, nor would I expect it of a gf--not all the time, that is, as I made clear.

Sometimes it's fun just to get the other person off even if you yourself aren't feeling it in the usual way--I've done it for gfs and enjoyed it,and they've done it for me and enjoyed it. It probably varies from person to person, and it certainly varies from time to time. I'm just saying that it's possible, at least sometimes, to be into doing it for the other person, even if you're not feeling the itch. Conversely, sometimes one party is just so worked up that they're desperate even form someth…

Right...though it might put things in perspective a bit to note that there's an analogous point to be made about men. Males often complain about female unavailability (e.g. incels) or about their gf(s) being crazy/bitchy. Most guys could probably get a nice, decent gf...but they want somebody attractive. There's stiff competition for physically attractive women. Also, once you throw in this additional desideratum, you're going to have fewer options, and have to compromise in other ways. So, to s…

As far as dating goes, you may be right. What many men are worried about, however, isn't dating, it's such accusations being leveled against them in a professional context. I know several guys who have been falsely accused by crazy colleagues--and I'm extremely close to the situations, so I know they're innocent / the charges are false. Some of the accusers are nuts. Some are strident feminists (which is basically the same thing). OTOH, I also know a woman who was blatantly sexually harassed in …

Nobody here is telling them they can't call themselves whatever they want. But, similarly, we are free to point out that something is stupid or doesn't make sense. Freedom, man. But also: this sort of nonsense is being shoved harder and harder onto the culture, and the Usual Suspects are starting to shove it into curricula (from grade school to college). So it's not a harmless kind of stupidity. It's a consequential kind of stupidity. So it's important to point out that it's stupid. You've got t…

'Bigender' can't mean what you say it does--or shouldn't--given that 'man' and 'woman' are not genders. 'Man,' for example, means adult male human being. So 'man' is a sex / age / species term, but has nothing to do with gender. The genders are masculine and feminine. (And you could add androgynous if you want to count that as a third gender--but it's better thought of as a middle ground between the other two.) Confusing sex and gender is what got a lot of this nonsense started, and the most com…

Interweb pr0n became pervasive about the time I was starting to settle down with my w-i-f-e. I'll admit that I worry about kids growing up with it...but as for us: we're pretty sexually adventurous on our own...but porn has been good for us. First, we both enjoy it...but, more importantly, it's prompted us to recognize the hotness of certain things we might not have recognized otherwise. Just to point to one thing: choking. We're both pretty pervy, but neither of us had really thought of that pr…

"Objectification" isn't actually a thing. Nobody literally views another person as a mere object...except maybe sociopaths or something. Regarding someone's physical aspect is entirely permissible--especially if that's what they're tacitly asking you to do, e.g. by modeling. Perhaps it's wrong to regard them disrespectfully, or as if their physical aspect were they're only aspect. But it's not really clear. And neither of those things is actually best described as "objectification."

LOL no. What percentage of men are over 6'3"? Like 1%? She doesn't even know how tall 6'3" is. Most guys lie about their height, anyway. I'm just barely less than 6' tall, and I've run into plenty of guys a lot shorter than me who claim to be 6'2". What she thinks is 6'3" is probably like 5'10".

My parents taught me that I was never to hit anyone first, but that I ought always to hit back if hit. And neither of these rules were different for boys or girls. In fact, I was explicitly taught that if a girl hit me, I had a right to hit her back, just as with anyone else. Pretty good advice, as it turned out, since one of my first fights as a little kid involved being attacked by a massive crazy, somewhat-mentally-challenged girl who'd been held back several years, and who, one day, just see…

This bizarre problem could have been easily avoided by refusing to be bullied into saying "trans women are women" and "trans men are men." Those things simply aren't true, and it's a clear matter of biology and lexicography: women are adult, female humans. "Gender" is irrelevant to whether someone is a woman or a man--'man' and 'woman' are sex-terms, not gender-terms. But people let themselves be badgered into saying false things, and so now the semantic confusion creates a problem that never re…

"Who are these feminists?" Come on. It's impossible to avoid the maniacal ravings of far-left feminists. They're all over academia, all over the internet, all over the media... You may disagree with something about what OP has to say, but don't pretend that you aren't aware that a certain brand of censorious, sexist, anti-male feminism is simply all over he place. And he didn't say that he cared about them.

Who is this "average" person, but a simulacrum to push an idea. Well, not that at all. I'm sure you know what 'average' means. If speaking of the average person bothers you for some reason, you could, instead, think of five or ten or twenty people with distributions of traits that represent the average.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/02/18 07:51 PM

Exactly. There are basically no "microaggressions." It's a term made up to allow the left to easily conflate minor annoyances and disagreements about taste with aggression. Of course some people do intentionally use rather small slights to get at others...but even those aren't acts of aggression, they're just (as you say) instances of being a dick.

Dude...none of my business and beside the point...but you spent $100k on social work grad school??? Anyway, my view on your main question is: speak up judiciously and reveal some of your concerns and arguments. See how they are received, and proceed accordingly. It's good to push back against the bullshit...but social work education is the kind of place you could get blackballed and ruined forever. So be careful.

My own general policy: a little too little contact is better than a little too much contact. This is not some kind of PUA bullshit...I just think it's hard to recover from getting bored with each other. The opposite is easy to fix (unless it's a long-distance thing).

I think it's pretty significant. Lots of people here are simply assuming that it's to be explained by women's greater freedom and responsibility. But you don't get to just declare that to be true. If it's true, we should be able to find evidence of it--which would take actual research, not just assertion. I wouldn't be surprised if it is because of greater freedom and responsibility. But that doesn't mean that the trend "doesn't mean much." It's a significant fact, and it demands an explanation,…

"Transwomen" are men. They're feminine men. And there's nothing wrong with being a feminine man. "Transmen" are masculine women. And there's nothing wrong with being a masculine women. Liberals are fine with people living non-standard lives. It's "progressives" that say that we all have to accept crazy theories or we're evil. I'll absolutely fight for your right to wear a damn dress if you want...but it doesn't make you a woman.

None of that stuff in the OP is right. This is a complicated issue--but not because it's really all that conceptually difficult. It's just a bunch of small confusions piled on top of each other until it's a train wreck. 'Social construct' is used to mean at least ten different things (yeah...I actually counted), many of which contradict each other. Sometimes 'x is socially constructed' is used to mean x is real, and society made it, sometimes it's used to mean x isn't real; society made it up. S…

I'm a dude, but I agree that attractive women face certain dangers. I honestly think it's easier for extremely attractive girls to become vapid, dumb and self-absorbed. They also become targets for the attentions of shitty guys.

Bad idea because the "gender identity" nonsense is not the output of an objective, scholarly discipline, but, rather, of women's/gender studies which are politicized / activist "disciplines." Good terminology needs to capture real properties / phenomena. But the "gender identity" and "gender expression" has been adopted for political reasons, not theoretical reasons. Furthermore, 'man' and 'woman' have nothing to do with gender. They are sex/age terms--'man' means adult male (human), and 'woman'…

I'm kind of surprised by the answers here. I'd have given everything I had at the age of 13 or 14. (I'm a dude.) I thought I was going to lose my mind. I couldn't think of anything else. If had had an opportunity to pay for sex, I very likely would have.

The one time I was accused of it, it was bullshit. I was on Metafilter, and that place is completely run by the loony left. But even I was surprised by this. A woman had been complaining about street harassment, and I just said "Yeah, I don't understand why guys let other guys get away with that stuff instead of confronting them about it." They rarely use them interchangeably. As others have noted, rape is a type of sexual assault, so they could just say 'sexual assault', but, presumably, they want to be perfectly clear, given that some people might think that sexual assault is sexual assault short of rape. Many of the studies are flawed, and flawed specifically because they are trying to inflate the numbers, and to make minor incidents seem worse than they are. But you can't justly accuse them of using 'rape' and 'sexual assault'…

I never pay any attention to such bullshit, and neither does anyone I know. I never try to dominate or intimidate other guys. If anyone tries to dominate or intimidate me, I laugh them out of the room. If they try to get physical about it, I kick their ass. And I think that this is the right way to be. I am neither an "alpha" (LOL) nor a "beta" (LOL). I just assumed that this is how most adult, reasonable males lived their lives.

I've heard a lot of women express genuine aversion to guys who expend too much effort on their looks. Of course, I'm not attracted to women who would tend to like male model / clothes horse types (and they're undoubtedly not attracted to me, either)...but man, I really have heard sincere yuck responses directed at guys who expend a lot of effort on their looks. ...so anyway, my point is just that that point--if true--seems revealing...but I'm not sure of what.

Or you are desperate to convince yourself that it's not happening, and everyone else's life is as desperately dreary as yours. And I'll certainly admit that having an intelligent, attractive young woman show interest is an ego boost. I'm not interested--but damn, it does make you feel good about yourself. I just don't understand how a guy can't know this about a girl he's been in a relatively LTR with. I've had ltgfs that clearly never wanted kids--with anybody--and I've had gfs who wanted kids some day, but we didn't want them with each other, and some gfs that wanted kids but I didn't. No, you have no idea at all what you're talking about. You're just making up stories because you don't like the facts. I've seen it happen to others, and it's happened to me. Just last year I had to go talk to my dept. Chair and get advice about a student who was getting a little too forward with her interest. Usually these things are harmless crushes, and they're pretty common. Sometimes they go beyond that, and you have to take steps to defuse them. It's simply not unusual in academia. And eve…

Wacko extremist feminism swept through my graduate school cohort back in the day, and we had a couple of insane PC/SJW/feminist faculty in the department... Yeah, sorry, you don't have any idea what you're talking about. Even fairly minimal contact with human beings clearly shows that you're wrong. Maybe what you mean is: without something non-physical driving/boosting the attraction, it would be relatively rare for an attractive 20-year-old woman to be attracted to a man in his 40s. That might be true, but it wasn't what I said. I in no way ruled out whatever the extras are that make younger women attracted to older men. I've got a lot of male frie…

I think that there's a lot of envy and resentment in there--and understandable envy and resentment. Guys can often managed to catch the eye of hot younger women well into middle age. Honestly, it must be damn annoying to be female and feel like you're at an ever-growing disadvantage against people who can seem almost like children to you. The only sticking point I can find is that people tell me that I'm too much of an asshole and obnoxious when I talk to women. Ah. If "people" are right, then the above is a story with a happy ending.
