If the child is switched at birth then the 'mother' won't be the actual mother. But the second part of my comment was about married women who have children from affairs without their husband knowing. Don't know how common it is in the US but I feel like it must be coming to light more and more because of all the ancestry DNA tests people are doing now. I've heard of people doing those tests not even thinking of paternity and then finding out their dad isn't their biological father.

I'm American and most of my family and friends still have both their appendix and their tonsils. Having an appendectomy is rare and only done for medical emergencies. It's a big deal when it happens... it's not done as a routine procedure the way circumcision is. Edit: same with tonsils, Americans only get them out if they have recurring tonsil infections.

Agreed. It doesn't make sense to compare MGM and FGM because there are so many different sub-types of each that cause different levels of damage. And every mutilation is different - some boys die from circumcision, some have lifelong trauma, some have sexual dysfunction... some don't experience any of that. Same for girls. There have been studies of men circumcised as adults that show very high dissatisfaction rates. Usually something like 1/3 of the men unhappy with the outcome. But hey, at least that was their mistake to make and not forced on them. And at least when they do it to an adult, they give you anesthesia and painkillers.

I don't think it's "evil" if an adult man with informed consent chooses to have his penis chopped. But it is really dumb. The pros of having an intact penis outweigh the cons by a lot. That's why almost all circumcisions are done to boys who can't consent and occasionally adult men who have been misled about the possible risks and benefits. Men who are given the chance to make an informed decision almost always say NO to being cut.

I can answer this with personal experience... yes, restoring the foreskin leads to 'shedding' the dry, toughened outer layers of skin on the glans - leaving you with softer, more sensitive skin in that area.
