The ONLY reason women from previous generations didn't run and marriages "stayed together " is because so many women didn't have the option. When I told my grandma (age 88) that I got divorced she was happy for me. Her exact words "I'm so glad women have that choice now. Back in my day you would end up going to live with a cousin or an old Aunt and spend the rest of your life a servant in their house living as nothing and having nothing. You were shamed and it was always the woman at fault no ma…

I agree. It's not just not using it's the changes. People fall into addiction for many reasons and I've dealt with it myself. The difference is what you do about it.

Exactly. Was talking to a guy for awhile. Really getting into him, nice flow between us, definitely saw some potential. He made an off hand comment about drug use and after I had him clarify I told him we were done. Told him if he gets completely sober I'd talk to him again if I was still single but I was not dealing with him otherwise.

My wedding ring is a prime example. It was very cheap don't know exact price but under $100. It matters because every time I look at it I know my husband did as I asked. He did what I wanted and ignored everyone around him and their opinions and judgements. To me that makes him a HVM...my desires overrule everything. ...within reason of course. ;)

Dominate in bed translation I only know two sexual positions and I'll either orgasim before you even realize I'm in or go soft if you break my concentration.

I'm actually married but I have three girls 16,19,and 24. I use this FDS to stay in the right mindset to give them good advice when they ask.

HVM do details. This is how I look at it a guy can walk into a jewelry store and hand the lady at the counter $500 and say "put something nice for a girlfriend in a box" that takes ZERO effort but will impress the less experienced woman. The same guy could be at a random store and see a bracelet just like the one you loved but lost a couple years ago and spend $20. The vaule of the second item is much more even though the price was less.

Over all I think men don’t really know what attracts them to a woman. THIS, women can be guilty too but over and over I see men young and old pick women by looks alone and honestly not understand why the relationship doesn't work. They are genuinely confused...she pretty..why relationship no work? It's honestly pathetic and sad for everyone. A lot of misery for everyone when a woman's physical appearance meeting current social trends is seen as a key component to a successful relationship.

My current husband actually admitted that to me. He said that he realized one reason he was so unhappy with previous relationships was he picked women based on what other men would think not just on what he personally liked. He actually had a big change a few years ago (before we were dating or were even on each others radar) that a lot on his unhappiness was from being who other people expected instead of just loving himself. He lost some close friends when he started living on his own terms...…

Slight side note I always give extra points to a guy who chooses something other than roses. Not sure why but it feels like a different level of effort. I actually prefer carnations...I'm aware they are cheaper but my thinking is anyone can throw money on a counter but actually selecting something shows me more. Expensive doesn't always mean they care more.

No it's definitely a mutual thing. More like finding a safe space where we both can work through things without judgment or repercussions. It's actually a really amazing peaceful feeling to be able to put anything on the table and have it met with understanding and kindness rather than childish self centered reactions.

It's a really unhealthy relationship. The only reason I have not told her so is because she cuts contact completely with anyone who says anything negative about him. I just say nothing or make neutral comments. I know she will need help out of this relationship at some point and strongly believe he is physically abusing her. I want her to have at least one person to say something other than "I told you so".

I'm a little embarrassed to admit my current relationship/marriage started as a venting session. Now the difference is it was mutual and it lead us into some deep conversations that got really really intense and made us realize we would be really good for each other.

Realizing this is why I ended my marriage. After more than two decades I finally came to accept that nothing I could ever do or be would be good enough for him. He simply never loved me personally or cared to get to know me as a person. He was obsessed with correcting my faults because he wanted to be with someone who wasn't me.

Oh I get it. She was a friend who really bought into the idea that "good" women don't like sex. I didn't ask for details but it just came out in our conversation that she and her husband just never talked about sex. She gave in to sex when she wasn't trying for a baby and felt ashamed. I'm not sure why her husband didn't notice or care but her change in attitude after they talked and some of the comments she made seemed like they worked it out and he actually made an effort once he understood wh…

She came from a very very conservative Christian background where there was zero talk about sex. She got into our friend group..Christian women who actually enjoyed sex and learned a few things. I think her husband assumed because she didn't complain she was happy...and she was in a sense because she didn't understand how enjoyable sex could be. She honestly thought of it as a means to an end just like having a bunch of dishes to wash if you want to make a big meal at home. The subject actually …

Only two men were ever really concerned about my "count" one was deeply insecure who was obsessed with how he compared demanded details, then got angry about it. The second asked for everything I was willing to share at my pace to understand my life better and he shared just as much about himself.

This subreddit is actively encouraging women to stay single if they can't find a man that meets their standards. Could you imagine what would happen if just 30% of women did this and stuck firmly to it? What if it was 50, 70, 90% it would actually change the structure of society. That scares the heck out if LVM and NVM.

This reminds me of my ex. We got in a fight once about my "attitude" and how I never smiled anymore. He went on and on about how the women he works with are always smiling and happy to see him, the girls at rhe gym he went to apparently couldn't stop smiling at him and were always soooo nice. He gave me example after example of women he had brief contact with daily and their wonderful positive attitudes.

I think it illustrates perfectly what a HVM does. She didn't have to beg him to do it, he didn't do it half way with a negative attitude, and he didn't do it to show off to other people.

Thank you. I have better now. ❤ his behavior during that time significantly changed the opinions and views of many people towards him. He hurt me deeply but I came out stronger. I think it's the same as when a guy claims ex after ex was "crazy". That is one thing I listen carefully about. Some women don't want to hear about ex's, I encourage it because what men have to say about an ex and how they say it tells you a lot of DEEP information about them especially if you listen for the ring of truth.

I don't care how much time my partner spends on games. My rule is this and I told him point blank. Spend all the time you want, it's a hobby and I think everyone should have s hobby. Just understand that when you are doing that I'm going to find my own ways to stay busy and my own things to do. I have zero desire to be joined at the hip but ignore me long enough and I'll have zero desire for you. I will never ask you to turn it off or beg for your attention. Tears were 100% fake. Don't feel bad for 1 second like you broke him down. Real men who have been broken down and realize they are going to lose the best thing they ever had don't cry and beg. They go into action they prove they have changed with actions. They don't show up late and demand details of your personal life. They send you gifts and ask politely to have some of your precious time on your terms not theirs.

It was very standard his work mattered and mine didn't. Even when I went back to work, because I made less money and he deemed my job as being easy (I was a vet tech) he treated me like I was living off him entirely and doing nothing to contribute to the home or family. Honestly I think he had to work himself into believing this stuff to justify his actions.

Funny twist of things there are actually a fair number of young guys who are into older women. Not just as a joke but seriously attracted. The men I've had come at me the hardest and be most persistent were 20 years younger than me. I had one that honestly was cute as heck but only 2 years older than my son just could not do it. It was creepy.

You are completely right. To be fair my ex was not always like that. He actually was a stay at home dad to two boys when we were first married. He wasn't a half ass one either he did a bang up job for 4 years. It wasn't until we moved closer to his family and their influence and opinions began to dominate that his ego slowly got out of control. He went from being a partner to seeing me as nothing but a gold digger.

Both my friends struggled for a long time. Both went through many bad relationships and were treated awfully by men who they felt pressured to be in relationships with. It took a lot of effort to find men who could look beyond their physical appearance and get to know them as people.

I think the biggest mistake men make is prioritizing looks and fethishes over everything when it comes to women. By in large they are so focused on a few superficial things that it's basically impossible for them to find a healthy relationship based on just those things. It's not until they get past that mentality that they have any value as partners. I have two very beautiful friends. Pretty to the degree they have both worked as models. The type of women men fall over themselves to date. The b…

It's also super insulting when the vast majority of men who use the term don't even remotely have the kind of cash women chase. You work at a convenience store and your mom pays your cell phone bill...no woman dating you is a gold digger.

The nice after effect was him not once raising his voice during the entire divorce process. He made a couple of slight passive aggressive digs but we I didn't react I think that actually scared him more. He use to feel like if he made me cry he won...that was his goal for every fight big or small. If he got me to cry it was a victory for him. At the court house after the final paperwork was done we walked out together (we drove separate but were still living together) I said "well that was easy"…

Honestly like I said I was slightly disconnected. I actually know how people can commit murder and not have a clear memory of doing it now. I told him we were getting divorced, he tried to frighten me saying he would take everything...I told him fine, I don't care. He said made a few more weak threats and I think my short quick answers but mostly the look in my eyes scared him. He knew me almost 30 years and I know he never saw me like that. I tell people that's how I ended up divorced. My NV ex had pushed me a few times over the years. Divorce had been mentioned then swept away for different reasons. One morning I was just not in the mood, had not slept well, dealing with some health issues. He tried to play one of his power trip games on me and I said no...I'm done...it's over we are getting a divorce. I think he thought I was joking but I literally snapped in that moment. The honest truth is if more men did it right sex would be more appealing to many women. Newsflash guys she's not having sex with you, she's not "in the mood" because there is nothing in it for her. It's just 5-10 minutes of time she will never get back and some added laundry.

Gaslighting can take many forms. The main thing is that it's a way of controlling you by making you question yourself. If he goes on to claim her attitude is why he doesn't help I think that could definitely be considered gaslighting. Basically making a woman feel the problem is how she approached the subject or problem is her attitude. When the problem is his inability to be an adult.

It seems the men who most loudly shout this "men are providers" mantra are the least capable of doing so. They are also very often doing nothing to change it.

I've taught my girls...16,19, and 23 since they were little to actively say something to people around them and particularly other girls and women if men are leering at them or if they see behavior that makes them uncomfortable.
