I don't think that's the problem. I actually really enjoy treating my personal relationships like a science and being able to communicate with each other with brutal honesty. I have had such relationships, and they are great.

Generally, once a woman got married, she was "added" to the household of the man, thus adding to the net prosperity of that household. However, for the family "contributing" the woman, this basically means that they the cost for raising her, but couldn't reap the benefits once they themselves were too old to work. If the woman provides a net benefit to the husband's family, why is her family required to pay the husband in the form of a dowry. These seems to indicate that she is a burden, not a b…
