All I can offer is my sympathy. No one should be forced to marry for someone else's happiness. I'm sorry you're in this situation and I hope you find a way through to your happiest dreams.

He got to basically forget that he ever fathered children while I took on 100% of the responsibility. He moved back in with his mom and dad who are financially secure, house paid off, retired. Full time job. He has a support system. He chose not to support the family he created.

You need to understand that it left me in an extremely difficult place with three very small kids. No help, no money, nothing. My aunt took me in for a few months and then my mom moved in with me. I count myself very fortunate because my mom stepped in when I needed it. Without her, I would have a very different story to tell. Now she's semi retired and I'm in school again for a new career. My goal is for me to have a job that will support her as long as possible. She's given so much to me that …

Well, that's exactly what I wanted to avoid when I left my cheating ex. I have full custody of the kids, yes, but he doesn't pay child support or alimony. I left him almost everything we owned, but I think he only took the Blu-ray player. I don't know. I didn't ask. I just let him do what he wanted. I went through the stuff after about three months of him having free and exclusive access to it and took what I wanted. I didn't tell him what to do with it; I still don't care. He got the mental hea…

I got to 25 before I started questioning and 34 before I really understood the issue. Religion fuelled most of it.

You have honestly described me. I've come to this very fascinating realization that I'm quite stunted when it comes to body issues, sexuality and all that. Largely to do with religion, I firmly believe. I have no idea how to remedy this problem. Sexuality is taboo. In all ways. How I possibly could have had three kids is honestly a fucking miracle.

When would being thrown across a room be an appropriate response to anything in a romantic relationship?
/r/PurplePillDebate12/01/20 05:02 PM

I wish my ex all the happiness in the world! If he's a happier man, the world is a better place. Why would I want less happiness? It doesn't make me happier if he's miserable. If he's happier, our children have a better relationship with him, he's easier to talk to. Everything good comes from it.

It's funny. I'm 35 and I don't find 20-30 year old men attractive either. There must be a reverse wall too, because that age range is just icky now. Attractive guys are 38-50 now. It's like preferences change as you age. Crazy.

I don't wear sunscreen often. I also don't purposefully stay out of the sun, but I don't go tanning. I do my best not to burn, and I'll wear sunscreen if I'm going to be out for several hours at the hottest part of the day-because burning is harmful. So that means I maybe wear sunscreen maybe 3-4 times in the summer. I'm 35 and can pass for 24. That was the latest guess.

Basically. I don't have any acne or pimples, scarring, discoloration or deformities on my skin that would be helped by a skin care regimen. Don't fix what ain't broke.

Well, my mom is 64, can pass for 50's and doesn't do anything except moisturize once in a while. I'm 35, do nothing and can pass for as low as 24 years old. My genetics are looking good.

That's my main love language. It's very important because it demonstrates competence, initiative and thoughtfulness. Those things are very important to me, even if it's just a normal thing to do. It means that I don't have to do it. It means my workload is reduced (I'm a work first, play later type), and the house will continue to hum along smoothly because I know someone else cares too. It's tied in with security and stability and usefulness too.

Touch. I dislike being touched a lot. That makes intimacy very challenging for me. It's amazing that I have children. I hate scratching people backs (my ex and oldest daughter like(d) me to, but I find it very disgusting getting their dirty skin flakes under my nails. I don't like touching people unless they specifically ask for it. I think it has something to do with consent. Funny thing is I've never been physically or sexually abused. I don't know where these beliefs have come in.

The latter part of my comment is how it ties in though. I want someone who's willing to participate in the daily grind, who can get the jobs done and won't flake out because "I never signed up for this".

I am in this situation, except my "partner" is my mom. I left my husband and became the "breadwinner" due to necessity. She takes care of my kids and cleans the house while I go to work and school. I come home and try to do stuff, but I'm often exhausted from everything by 8pm. I pay for most things, like rent, food, internet/cable, electricity, house supplies and such. If she purchases something, it's because she wants to. I don't ask her to. I very much like this arrangement and a guy would ne…

I don't like it when anyone cries a lot, man, woman or child. It has nothing to do with gender or age for me. When crying is the only coping mechanism, it's an issue. When crying doesn't actually help deal with the excess emotion, that's a problem. I dislike crying in front of people, but holy shit you've just blanketed a huge thing with "man up!" That is so extremely unhealthy. You need help.

I highly value independence and competence, so if a dude is messy, needy, clingy, can't do his whole life without me, I'm not remotely interested. I don't care for anyone who isn't completely independent already. I like to work first and relax after so often times, there's so much work that I don't get to relax. I have three young kids in school, a house and a career to take care of so there's a lot to do. I don't keep a perfectly clean house, but I'm not a slob; I don't have stupidly high stand…

You'll never get anyone to believe you. If you're all the way in religion, everyone else are stupid idiots for not seeing it your religions way. I used to be 100% in. I'm 100% gone now, but it was my own decision. No one was going to tell me otherwise and there's really no point.

I don't think I would ever cheat. I never have and my sense of integrity is such I think that cheaters are the lowest scum who deserve unhappiness. I left my ex though. After 3 years of diagnosed yet untreated (by his own choice) mental health, abusing the kids and cheating on me with a high school friend I was done. Most of his issues revolved around the mental health, so when he refused to do anything about it (because his psychologist said no meds, so that obviously means do nothing, right?) …

I don't know what kind of machine it was. It wasnt self applied calipers, I know what those are. It was at a personal trainers studio, so I'm taking their machine for face value. I don't know if it was super accurate, I don't even remember what it was called, but it could have been the bioelectric impedance scale. Even if it's inaccurate, it's not wildly inaccurate for me. I said nothing about BMI. BMI is shit for me. I am not average and saying I should be under 135lbs is the stupidest thing. I would have almost no body fat and be extremely underweight.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/10/19 12:12 AM

How do you account for lean body mass? I'm 5'4", with a lean body mass of 133lbs. I'd never reach your standards. If I had 10% body fat (which is the absolute lowest a woman should be), I'd still be 155lbs or so.

LO fucking L. My lean body mass is 133lbs. I'm 5'4". This means my actual healthy weight goes up to around 190lbs. Your standards are shit for people who don't fit into the "average". I don't lift weights, I've never done CrossFit or professional sports. I'm moderately active, but nothing special. I have an extremely muscular body and I can't do a damn thing about it. I would love to slim down, but anything I do builds muscle. So fuck you and your stupid standards.

18 year olds are adults where I come from. Even 16 year olds have plenty of autonomy. They just can't drink, smoke weed or vote. I think they should lower the voting age to 16, but the alcohol and weed can stay how it is-19.

No, the other way around. Not all assholes are entitled. You could argue that all entitled people are assholes, but not the other way around, so they aren't synonymous. We're just arguing semantics at this point. I agree with your general sentiment.

Nobody would outright say they deserve anything, but when you watch incels complaining day after day that women don't throw themselves on their dicks, so they call women whores and complain more about their lack of pussy, it really sounds entitled. I agree. I think there's a really shitty attitude about the whole sexual revolution of women happening. As far as I can tell, too many men are complaining about being held accountable for all aspects of relationship. It's like women aren't supposed to have a say and they want it to go back to the middle ages or something where women's voices and choices don't matter. Women get to have sex with who they want. Women actually have autonomy and this means guys have some work to do that they haven't …

In terms of relationships, you're right. Women are basically handed everything. I've turned down at least two people in the past year and I actively avoid dating and relationships. As for your generalization about "everything", that's simply incorrect. Women have had a tough go in plenty of areas and it's only in recent years that autonomy and self direction have even been possible for women in general.

I don't know if I'm traditionally masculine, but I completely relate to what you're saying. I worked in group homes and ended up thinking of my ex as another one of them because he was just a passive, angry, useless twit. Yes I did. And I'm a woman with a strong personality. It did not work out well. When I was about 15 years younger, I thought I could "fix" him. I have since realised that was a terrible mistake. I was immature and ignorant. I ignored his family life before me. He expected me to fit the role his mom took on and I was not willing to be a dutiful housewife. That entirely depends on them now, doesn't it? Legally, yeah, marriage means two people only. Does it have to work that way? No. The poly spouse can continue to be poly and if the other spouse doesn't like it, they can leave. No one must stay married. If someone is going to lie that badly about it anyway, they should probably be divorced for their determination to deceive their spouse.

I'm perfectly fine with the idea and practice of polyamory. As long as all parties are aware and consent to being in a polyamorous relationship. I don't care what other people do in the bedroom as it isn't my business. So, yeah people should be allowed to have sex with the people they want to have sex with. People should also be allowed to not participate in polyamory if they so desire. It's all about consent really. Agreement to participate in a/multiple relationship(s). Agreement can be revoke…

Yeah, I've got to lose some weight, but that's pretty minor compared to everything else I've done in the past couple years. If this is how aging is, I'm pretty excited to be 40 and beyond! It's the whole thought process. It's well known that "boys don't hit girls" even if a girl hits them, so therefore in the girl's mind they're free to just abuse guys whenever they want, because they're a girl and can't be hit back.

Lol sorry. My mil was one of those. She'd faint if she knew how much her grandchildren swore. Precious little nincompoop.

Even if she does realise the issues, she may not know what to do to change it. I'm in that exact same boat, except I'm not trying to meet guys. I wouldn't know what to do to attract attention because I've always shied away from that. I'm definitely taking notes on all these tips and tricks for when I am ready.

Women were/are beaten, murdered and abused for any sort of infraction (real or imagined) against a man in the name of religion. Men didn't have an easy go before human rights were a thing, but you really had to tread carefully as a woman. We absolutely did get that short end. Think of a modern country like Saudia Arabia. Women can't go anywhere without a male chaperone. Not allowed on public transportation, Wear a niqab and abaya (similar to a burqa), arranged marriage before puberty, the testim…

I don't know who decided it, but I think women sure got the short end of the stick. I'm also more interested in the latter. Didn't God decree that man is the head and woman be submissive? I know it's Paul and not OT, but modern Christianity is Pauline. I agree that women bought in too. Women definitely had influence. It can still be true that this hurts many other women enough to be an issue.

What you say about the principles and experience of Christianity is what brings me to my points about controlling sexuality. If power and control belong to God, and men (males) wield that power, then women get shit on in all kinds of ways. My culture is somewhat less Christian than American culture is, but the roots are the same. It's by no means the only factor, but it occurs often enough for it to matter.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not an atheist. I just can't advocate for Christianity in any of its forms. I don't really have an answer for this problem, but I don't think Abrahamic religions help at all. I think you're onto something with human nature being a bigger issue, but I think it has more to do with power and control and how we use those ideas to make people's lives better or worse.

So, you're right. The Bible doesn't have much to do with it at all, but (fundamentalist especially) Christians use whatever they can to push their narrative. It's more in the culture and worldview of it. It's all through their Jesus coloured lenses. Trying to reform the church is basically impossible. I think it should be obliterated. No church is the best idea. When I left, it wasn't because I didn't like the songs they sing, the order of service could use a re-vamp, or the pews are uncomfortab…

This is exactly what is taught in churches today. I've already said it's never explicit, but they sure do teach it. I had more than one talk in youth groups when I was a teenager on sexual purity. Ignoring it or saying it's propaganda doesn't make it go away. It's precisely what I was taught and what I experienced in my "Christian" marriage. I was following God, being an obedient wife and I was just a regular bible-believing Christian. There are millions who still believe this and spread it like…

But this type of belief persists. Not all of us have been able to shed the old as easily. It's a very sexually repressive belief system that becomes ingrained in who you are because it's taught for so long. I think you might see it improve over the years as Christian beliefs exit their lives and people heal their wounds. We're not talking about every single women though, plenty of women have healthy sexualities and I'm sure lots of Christian (and such) women do too. The presence of one doesn't m…

I was this type of Christian until about 10 years ago. The types of churches i went to might never say it outright, but they talked about passages in the Bible that promote obedience to your husband, being submissive to him, and used that idea in plenty of different ways, like only men being allowed to be in positions of power (priest, pastor, deacon etc). I would say this type of thinking is very common, if not should be largely expected for these folks and their loved ones.

I would say this, yes. Particularly the Conservative right, fundamentalist type. Even Abrahamic religion in general, so, Islam, Judaism and Christianity.

Women haven't been "allowed" to have sexuality until recently. It's been so ingrained in us to disregard our pleasure for the sake of the man/husband. I grew up like that. My pleasure was to serve my husband. Any orgasm I might have was an afterthought. Questioning any sexual pleasure is the norm for me.

You can't be vulnerable with anyone until you can be vulnerable with yourself. Facing your fears and problems is a great skill that takes a lot of work to be good at. I think this is the beginning of being truly vulnerable.

I grew up relatively conservative Christian (for a Canadian, anyway), so I would disagree with the appeasing of beta males. Everything male was inherently good. Everything female was inherently bad. At least according to the "traditional values" I was taught. I get that some men are alpha and some are beta, but all men regardless of their class are still above women and other "undesirables". A man was desirable no matter his alpha or beta status. A woman was/is disposable if she couldn't please …

Take it back a few hundred years. Even 100 years. Every single male young and old benefits from everything in society. Women, people of colour (depending on the society), people with disabilities all get the short end of the stick. By a long long shot. We wouldn't even get part of the stick. Things are different now and you're right, so I don't think we're taking about the same "traditional marriage".

Except, in "traditional marriage", the man is the great and glorious leader who everyone must bow to or face his wrath. Actually. It's very religious, usually, very "conservative". The man is the head, the woman is dirt and should pay out whenever the husband says so. Kids are meant to work for the father. Everything revolves around the husband and father. Even the religion.

Maybe club soda, maybe Perrier or carbonated water. I don't drink club soda ever and pop irregularly. I dislike the carbonation so there's that.

Canada Pop is the word we use for the bubbly beverage. Never soda.
