That last bit is pretty reasonable. But, its all situational, and as I said before, you can't guarantee that a child will be more productive overall. Plus, an adult can just go and have another kid to "make up" for the lost one. With a child, you need to put the resources in to raise them to adulthood before they do all that much - meanwhile you have lost a source of labor and income, meaning that the cost would need to go to someone else.

Agreed. To a point. Age still is something to be considered whne determining the "value" of someone. With an adult, you know who they are. You know they're a great person, or that theyre a brilliant scientist, or that theyre a "take charge" person that helps other... But with a child, they could very well be a criminal or something! Children are a much more unknown.
