Good thinking

I do 2/2/3 and it's hard, but worth it. I work late on the days I don't have my kids to make up the time that I miss when I do have them. I wanted 50/50 and knew work would be tricky, but to me the schedule is the priority. Make your career work around your kids, not the other way around.

I discovered that my wife of 14 years and mother of 4 children was cheating on me, and then 2 months later I'm sitting in a mediator's office. It's too fast, too much to process. This person has been your best friend and support system and now that's gone and you're supposed to be making huge decisions. If I had it to do over again I would visit the mediator to figure out temporary custody and support, and then wait. Get over the shock and the trauma before you start signing things.

It's so tempting. I understand where you're coming from. I wanted to leave it all behind and move to Alaska. A good friend talked me out of it and I have 50/50 now I can't thank him enough. Please don't do that. You have to understand that right now you're a crazy person. You're going through trauma. Don't let your abused and traumatized brain make a decision that you'll regret forever.

I would like to add to this if I could. I wasn't the one advocating for divorce in my relationship, and it hit me hard. I agreed to mediation instead of litigation, and I wasn't in the right mental place for it. I agreed to things that I probably shouldn't have. This isn't a knock against mediation, just saying that it's important to realize that you may not be in the right mindset to be making decisions that will affect you for years. If you can't look out for yourself, someone else has to do i…

I found out my wife was cheating on me and tried to forgive her, tried to make it work. I killed myself. Lost a bunch of weight, nearly lost my job. After about 6 months I gave up and we ended it. I'm so glad I did, although at the time it was awful. Looking back, it would never have worked. There would never have been trust. I'm sorry for what you're going through. I didn't know this place existed back then, I wish I did. Good advice here. Take care of yourself, none of what she did is your fau…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
