Riot units usually don't, as there's too great a risk that their weapon will get stripped from them in a melee, but typically MPs carry at least their service sidearm, depending on the current threat level.

On the other hand, the Marine MPs I saw at Annapolis had some pretty neat kit. I don't think it was a service wide thing, but they had electrified nightsticks as part of their riot gear. Also, good friend of mine was an MP, then he got some sense, OCS'd and selected Infantry ("like any sensible Marine" to quote him).

There's no great solution. Either you get rid of plea agreements and back up the courts even more, or some innocent people plea out. It's a problem that Blackstone's formulation really doesn't address, especially because we have no hard numbers on the rate of wrongful pleas.

Do you work in sales? A lot of your tips and ideas are straight out of both B2B and B2C sales. I suspect it's why salespeople have a reputation of being good at getting dates and finding relationships. We're trained to be able to hear "no" twenty times a day and still grab that next up because they might be the one to say yes. "Show don't tell" is another thing that's drilled into us in any decent sales training.

My friend who's a state trooper has said that he goes by the "sore thumb" model. It's actually funny. You just described my average day at work: I'm a car salesman. It's kinda similar though, high competition, other party usually thinks that their presence is God's gift to you, and doesn't realize that (as a salesperson), they're just another number. My closing percentage is around 40%, so I know that if I don't close this specific customer, I'll close one out of the next three. It's all a numbers game at the end of the day.

So, that's kinda like my fiance and I. Her life's goal is to be a housewife and mom, and I want to have a comfortable job where we can afford to do that. My destressing activities are video games, mead making, and electronics, and hers are cleaning, ironing, and reading. Don't ask me how I got that lucky, but trust me, I'm not arguing. It's a nice middle ground. Also, my girlfriend and I both go to work at the same time, and we don't have a double vanity in the master, so we have a routine because we both need to be in there and doing things at the same time. Usually the toilet seat stays down because she'll be doing her stuff at the mirror while I'm in the shower, then switch to sitting in the toilet while I'm shaving and doing stuff that needs the mirror.

Never did myself. Worked in a call center as a summer job and quit after a month, then worked 60+ hours a week as a delivery driver, did IT for a small business (horribly underpaid), Assistant at a law firm, and now currently in car sales getting ready to go back to school at 29 (law school). Thankfully those two things line up sometimes, and it gives every officer I've met great pleasure to be able to do their job and stop someone from being a dbag. I don't think someone like this will ever be rehabilitated. He will always be a danger to society and in prison he just has the chance to continue his predation on other inmates. If he can't be rehabilitated, what's the point in warehousing him until he dies of old age? Isn't it more cruel to keep him in a cage for the rest of his life because of the danger he poses? Wouldn't it actually be more humane to kill him at that point?

I'm a car salesman, and it's darn well known in the car business that women absolutely clean house, and can easily match the sales numbers of male salespeople who have two or more times the amount of time in the sales business. She's in trouble not because of the age of the student (they're above the age of consent) but because they are students and therefore she's in a position of authority over them. Same principles apply if a manager has a relationship with their employee. It's generally illegal because there's no way to be sure that the manager isn't using their authority over the subordinate for coerce them into consenting.

I mean, I think that it's sad that we can't even give a coworker a nice compliment, "Hey, I like your hair" or "that outfit looks good" as examples. I work in sales, and looking good is a huge part of our job. I also think it's good for people to get confidence boosts, especially in a line of work where your input from customers is 80% distrust, dislike, and/or outright hostility.
