They are considered essential to protect life and the well being of the workers. I don't disagree that there needs to be mandated standards.. but if you don't like the terms of the employment you don't have to work there. I think government needs to step out of business as much as possible.. WalMart is a great example. Take them to the labour board in your area, or just go have a talk with HR. HR is there to protect the company, and not the employees. I think this might be a good thing. If companies only start hiring women who can actually do the work, and they are worth the same as a man, then the pay gap will vanish.
