Depends if they were negligent or not. If someone fraudulent withdraws money from your bank account, the bank still has to pay you back.

If a stranger gives away something of yours without permission, are they responsible for any losses you incur as a result?

Okay, remove the ambiguity - imagine it was an artificial womb instead (if such a thing existed). The genetic mother would definitely be the mother in that case. Should she pay child support?

So he just keeps paying thousands of pounds for the child then? Why should he suffer?

If a man takes a woman's egg, fertilises it and then uses a surrogate to have a child; should the woman who's egg was stolen have to pay to support it?

The clinic was tricked. They were the victims of fraud, too. And because of that they became the victims of a blatant money grab attempt from the husband, who wanted to sue whoever had the deepest pockets (the clinic) instead of who was most responsible (the ex-wife). If he sued his ex-wife, he'd effectively also be suing his own children. He doesn't want to make their life worse, so he went for the only remaining option.

Were the feminists campaigning for votes for women wrong? I don't believe so. People don't need to care about every cause at once. Men can campaign against the draft without being anti-woman. Women can campaign for equal career opportunities without being anti-man. The problems only occur when people start trying to take rights away from another group, or to prevent that group from having rights equal to their own.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
