It’s crazy because I have a 3yo nephew who is currently in that phase of expressing emotions with tantrums, and his parents are teaching him to identify the feeling/problem and they can help him work through whatever it is. It seems that some parents are either acquiescing to the tantrums or punishing them, then leaving their boys to just figure it out.

Have to add an additional point here: I don’t mind at all when my husband cries over something that means a lot to him. I’ll console him and help him if I can. Sometimes he cries over documentaries, and that’s cute to me. He knows that he’s safe with me and I don’t look at him as less of a man. What does make me think that a man is weak are tantrums and rants. My past two relationships were like that, and both accused me of looking down on them for showing emotion and being vulnerable, but to me…

This was my experience with my two long-term relationships before I finally found “the one.” I feel like some men really don’t know what to do once they’re in a relationship.

But aren’t those the same responses spineless/naive women receive, just in reverse? If she dates a drug addicted man, she “should’ve picked better.” If he rapes and impregnates her, society will deride her for aborting or being a single mother. Men have significant obstacles to overcome in the dating scene, no doubt, but none of what you mentioned is a gendered issue.

This is usually my answer whenever I reply in this sub, class plays a much larger factor than folks want to admit. I’m also like your wife and her friend, middle class, highly educated, my third boyfriend (I was 31 at the time) became my husband. Our friend group has really never run into many of the complaints mentioned here.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/02/25 01:24 AM

It sounds like you’re agreeing with them?

And what’s often left out of these conversations is that by-and-large, nearly 60% of women on apps are bots. Every Tinder/Ashley Madison documentary talks about how they flood these apps with fake profiles to keep men scrolling. That doesn’t even take into account the folks who use apps simply to promote their content. There are simply too few real women searching for partners on apps

Maybe because no one in my family married anyone from the same city/state/etc, but I think it’s misguided to think people only ever dated and married the people within their limited social circles. My husband is from Utah, I’m from Maryland, we met at a coworking space in DC. Don’t people go to work, have hobbies, travel, etc? There have always been a plethora of options pre-internet. Even in high school, I never dated anyone who attended my same school. I usually met someone at the mall or at a…

Women were having sex as young women in the 1940s. What’s your point?

Dating norms are different than 80 years ago and we should not hold women to standards that were established 80 years ago. When my grandmothers were dating back in the 50s, they were having sex just like we are today. They just didn’t have social media. My maternal grandma literally had sex with my grandpa in high school, he went into the navy, she moved to Connecticut, and they hooked up and married years later in DC. Also, my grandmothers were still driving until 80+. We had to take their cars…

Older women are dating. Neither of my grandfathers or great-grandfathers lived past 60, but my grandmothers were dating until they died at 98 and 101. My mom is a divorcee who is dating. What’re you talking about? And women definitely fucked back in the day. Please talk to your grandmothers.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/01/24 03:10 PM

I have to disagree. If you’ve sat around a group of older women, we don’t marry the promiscuous guy. It’s gross to know a distant friend fucked your husband in college.

Can’t agree more. The West isn’t perfect, but is the best place to be born. You can eventually find your own private paradise somewhere else, but being born in the West certainly helps.

The access to pornography was something I never realized was a privilege until recently. I’m 37, so by the time I was a teen, porn was easily accessible. Did not know that some folks are using VPNs and such to access porn in 2023.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/11/23 02:43 PM

No, but I typically date men who work within tech, and usually their hobbies and career are adjacent (they are gamers or love app/system builds). My husband works in tech, but his hobbies are very physical (we play squash, hike, bike, climb, etc.)
/r/PurplePillDebate19/11/23 04:17 AM

Sir, I’m with my husband because he’s fun and makes me laugh and we share interests and similar hobbies. I enjoy doing activities with my partner, and that has worked well for us as we’ve often moved to cities far from our family and friends and had to rely on each other. Other people may date folks simply for looks or money, but it’s always been important that I enjoy my partner’s company and genuinely want to be around them.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/11/23 12:12 PM

I don’t come across it often as I’m in my late 30s and all of my friends are either married or in longterm relationships, but I definitely caught chlamydia from a partner I was in a committed relationship with. Turns out he was cheating on me with a girl who was cheating on her fiancé. Apparently, they both are married to new people now but still hookup
/r/PurplePillDebate18/11/23 09:11 AM

In the city, it’s like shooting fish in a barrel, but you just end up cheating on him because he’s boring as hell.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/11/23 09:03 AM

You’re neglecting the fact that most men see forward women as unattractive/easy. I’ve had this conversation too many times on this sub. Somehow a woman has to make the approach but in a way that doesn’t seem like she’s easy and has made the first move on multiple men.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/11/23 09:00 AM

Yeah, I see that often with both men and women. Hell, I even do it sometimes.

I’d actually like to see numbers on this because it’s very false in major cities. In DC and Silicon Valley, a lot of folks move there already in committed relationships, engaged or married—so they’re already eliminated from that pool of “casual sex”. Others are looking for their “forever person,” so are also eliminated from that pool of casual sex. If you’re a woman who participates in casual sex, you frequently run into the other “frequent fliers.” Most men are pretty picky, or have a “type,” s…

This reminds me of a magazine I worked at. It was my first “adult” job and I worked in advertising. Every meeting some guy was losing his shit over something. Lots of yelling, occasionally getting in each other’s faces. It was advertising. No one was going to die if it was a slow month—we still got paid extremely well through salary, you’d just have a smaller bonus at the end of the quarter.

I think the above comment in this thread about “masking” goes well here. Many NT men can also be put off by the rudeness of ND men (hence the lack of male friendships, etc.) Whereas, NT women might find a ND woman slightly weird, but not off-putting (this is why a ND woman has a much easier time socially.) In general, women are taught to be agreeable, and for myself, when I’m feeling too much like an asshole, I’ll likely sit out of social events (I’m too busy, have a stomachache, whatever) or re…

That’s very fucked up. If she doesn’t like the man that she’s with, she should absolutely let him go to find a woman who will appreciate him. If she wants to date men who spend a lot of money, or men who are hot, she can have her pick. They will always be there. Sometimes it comes in one package; sometimes it doesn’t (my husband just started earning more than me this year, but I actually didn’t care about it because he treated me the way I needed/wanted.) And connecting with someone is important…

Very true. Our first date, my husband took me to a beautiful garden, we sat and talked for hours, then went to a quiet coffee shop afterwards. Our second date was to a popular exhibit at a museum where the tickets were probably $50 per person. We were exclusive after the second date. Before then, I typically went on dates with guys who spent $$$ on dinners, trips, gifts, etc. and only one of those expensive dates turned into a long term relationship (again, we talked for hours, but over drinks a…

This sort of thinking is going to end so many new families. It seems pretty common that a woman’s libido changes after childbirth for a number of reasons (sleepless nights, pelvic floor issues, hormonal fluctuations, depression, etc,) and if a man’s only options are to leave or cheat, that’s a sad state for relationships.

In my experience, those folks aren’t trying too hard and they’re perfectly fine dating the girl that’s on their level or share their interests. My entire high school was full of nerds, so being nerdy wasn’t a problem/deterrent for relationships. But what I did notice was that “nerdy, unconventional guy” didn’t want to date “nerdy, unconventional” girl for whatever reason. I wasn’t at all interested in dating while in school (had my first boyfriend at 25,) so it always amazed me that some guy wou…

I would actually argue the reverse is true. I don’t have to compliment or validate my friends and family nearly in the same way a boyfriend/husband requires. If men were able to get that from the people around them, the burden wouldn’t always lay at the feet of their women. If you’re the only person your partner confides in, it can be hella exhausting.

I think this is where the general disconnect in understanding the opposite sex lies; men and women have vastly different ideas of what it means/feels to be lonely. I can be in the same room with my husband and still feel lonely, sex or a cuddle won’t solve that. Whereas just having my company may make him feel infinitely less lonely. I think generally our definitions of/needs for intimacy are too disparate to find common ground. For most women, spending time around family and friends can quell l…

I don’t think women only care about themselves, but my mom is 60 and divorced, and she doesn’t want to remarry. If women are choosing to be single after marriage, I think that’s a big problem. She’s not the only older woman I know who is opting to be celibate. I might actually be celibate if my husband and I divorce. It’s not about “I don’t need no man,” but I don’t want to be the only adult in the relationship.

My husband (Iranian) steps in for women most of the time. Mostly, it’s been good, but there have definitely been scary moments for us. He’s not Black or visibly “Brown”, so him taking up for Black and Brown women can be confusing to most men (he’s fair, with red facial hair, etc.) That needs its own thread, tbh. Brown men who are “visibly White” with Brown moms/dads who stand up for minority women. But he does not believe that men should be sexually aggressive towards women, or generally aggress…

It’s a fairly common occurrence tbh; most women have at least one story of some guy throwing a fit or even becoming violent. There was a pretty viral post on Twitter/X yesterday where women shared their fear of saying “no”. I was stalked and my family harassed by a classmate that couldn’t take rejection—I even had a boyfriend at the time. All I could do was get him kicked out of university.

Why do you have to suffer to support a family? I grew up in a family of 5 on one salary (my dad was a cop.) We grew up in the suburbs, my parents owned their house and three cars. They vacationed regularly, my dad had a pension and a separate retirement account. He sent all three of us to college without having to borrow. My sister is 28 and lives similarly—homeowner, bought her car in cash, paid for her Master’s in cash, and my nephew attends private school. What is with the rice and beans?

Of you can just rent in a “luxury” apartment community instead a privately owned apartment building/unit; in 6 years our rent has only increased once (from $2500 to $2600.) We opt for a 24 or 15 month lease, which keeps our monthly rent low and permits us to save. All of the included amenities also helps keep money in our pockets (squash courts, several rooftop pools, shared office space, membership discounts for onsite Equinox gym and OrangeTheory, etc.)
/r/PurplePillDebate04/08/23 05:47 PM

It’s not even luxurious gifts. When someone treats you really well, it’s hard to settle. Unfortunately, a lot of men (and women) haven’t witnessed great/healthy/functional relationships between men and women, so it’s easily apparent when you run into a guy who grew up with parents who treated each other warmly. My husband’s parents have been married 40+ years and still act like lovebirds (sneaking kisses, joking, tickling, etc,) so that’s completely normal behavior for him to replicate. If we di…

I was a virgin until almost 30 (27 to be exact,) entirely by choice. Thin, sporty and in bed by 10 every night. Wasn’t on social media, didn’t use dating apps, was genuinely waiting for the right time (wasn’t waiting for the right guy; just when I felt “ready”.) I’m 37 now, and I’m sure if my relationship suddenly ended, I’ll be perceived as a “used up thot,” regardless of my life experience. Hearing how men think of older women, I probably wouldn’t dare enter the dating scene post-40, tbh.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/07/23 04:20 AM

Same with my partner and I. We met years after we’d both finished college, but basically hung out in the same circles. Same with my best coworker and her husband. They actually bounce ideas off of each other and help troubleshoot problems (he’s helped us with some tricky issues). Their entire friend group consists of couples who are software engineers/developers. I’ve noticed this with my friends who are doctors (one may be a pediatrician, the other a surgeon.)

Not OP, but in Islam, we’re taught not to openly disclose our sins nor ask about our potential’s past (it’s between you and God.) If you and/or your partner has sufficiently repented, then it’s essentially water under the bridge.

We actually started off slow. In the past, I would’ve put myself in his line-of-sight, worn something cute but provocative, etc. Then I would’ve “attacked.” But for us it was very simple. We ran into each other a couple times. He asked me out for lunch and we had a great date. It built slowly. I think it helped that I was in therapy and he had clear boundaries (we didn’t kiss on the first date.)

As someone with BPD, it was near impossible to get men to break up with me (I’m stable and married now, so I guess he’s just as nuts as me, lol.) But I’ll never understand why men would take so much drama and abuse for no real benefit. I’ve done some INSANE shit in relationships while I was having an “episode,” (cheating, hitting, lying, etc) but somehow nothing beats being my “favorite person.” It’s so bizarre because I was a total hypocrite. As a woman who talks to women daily, this must be a secret society that only happens online. Just had my single friend over last night because my husband is on a business trip. Did we discuss companionship, yes. But it wasn’t a complaint or yearning. We’ll ask for advice or whatever, but women don’t throw fits or create communities online about being single. I think that’s the difference

You must not know any women over 25+, because I’m 36 and know plenty of women who study and travel abroad, or are here in the States and drag my bored, married ass out to salsa or bookmaking or pottery or cooking classes. Women are just better at being with strangers or meeting new people.

It may sound delusional because I’m a bit older but when I was in high school, all of the “tech” nerds hung out together (I graduated high school in 2004, right when Facebook took off; graduated college in 2008.) The gamer/computer nerd boys and girls would all hang out together, so there was always a “girl in your orbit.”

You’re not evil or an asshole. Sometimes, there is a girl in your orbit who likes you (just don’t be pushy!) and exploring that will help you work through some issues with women. I was a late bloomer who dated a former incel. We dated for 5 years. That’s why I don’t give up on “incels”. My first boyfriend is good now with a great girlfriend. And I got married.

I agree that social difficulty is a huge problem for some men. I’ve had an unattractive man make inappropriate comments about my feet at work, but I didn’t find it creepy (would never date or fuck him.) It’s different from some men who might be attractive or unattractive, but who have no social nuance. Someone made a great point in a previous post: women make it known when they want to be approached (even before you know you want her.) She’s open, her body language is open…so if you’re approachi…

I don’t know if it’s misogynistic more than “incel.” Misogynists get married every single day and have families. Ugly or beautiful, fat or fit, they find choice women who marry them. I think what happens is some unattractive men unintentionally adopt extremely misogynist and antisocial rhetoric because they’ve never had attention from women, so they also lack any of the knowledge and suave that other men possess, and so women (unfortunately) will correlate those unattractive men with being incel…

You must not follow many Muslims on Instagram. Most of my timeline is of modest women in hijab (I’m Muslim, so that’s my demo.) If they’re not a food or fashion blogger, it’s always makeup and hijab tutorials or travel and fitness selfies/videos.

My husband is like that, too. All of my “selfies” are technically pictures he’s taken of us because he likes to take photos together. Similarly, when I’m wearing a really sexy dress while out, I really don’t consider what some random guy is thinking nor their thoughts on modesty. My husband likes it and I like to look hot for him.

I have not seen a single video on my timeline/newsfeed of a guy being clowned for politely asking out a girl. If you can remind me of just one, I’ll gladly concede. Just haven’t seen it.

This is true. My sister is a beautiful girl (has always gotten a lot of male attention,) but with makeup and hair, she looks like an Instagram baddie, 11/10. Sometimes I can’t believe we’re even sisters as she’s able to change her appearance so much. I’m sure that when people see her and her boyfriend out together they are probably confused by the matchup, but when we’re all just hanging out and she’s dressed down, they’re a lot more evenly matched.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/05/23 04:25 PM

Exactly. Every video I’ve seen on social media of a man “being a creep,” he was genuinely being a creep in that moment (harassment, vulgarity, stalking, inappropriate touching, etc.) If some men are seeing those same videos and are not recognizing that this behavior should be shamed, I’m really concerned.

My point is that you won’t ever know. You can ask and hope that your partner is being honest, but you’ll actually never know. Whether it’s 1 or 100, you’re taking that person at their word. In the example I used above, the couple is from a country in the East where virginity is prized, so her prior relationships had been very clandestine. Her parents assured him she was a virgin. But in my experience—and I’ve only been in three relationships—body count almost never comes up. I’ve only had one pa…

I’m not saying it’s bad to want to marry a virgin (everyone has preferences,) but I don’t think you should get worked up over body counts. It’ll just make you paranoid once you do find that perfect girl that you’d like to commit to and invest time in. Would it matter less if she had a lot of sex with one guy?
/r/PurplePillDebate20/05/23 05:33 AM
3

Yeah, it’s an awful situation. That’s exactly why I think the obsession with “body count” is a waste of time. You’ll drive yourself crazy worrying about something you can never truly know. Some men think they can tell when women have slept with a lot of men, when most can’t even tell if you’ve slept with someone earlier in the day.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/05/23 05:12 AM

Just want to point out that men really can’t tell if a woman has had “enough bodies.” I see it all of the time on the Muslim subs where men had no idea their wife wasn’t a virgin until some bitter ex starts sending photos to the husband or something (there’s currently a guy posting on r/muslimmarriage about this.)

Just made a response on this sub yesterday about not always being attracted initially, but allowing the space for something to happen. My current partner, I was attracted immediately. My ex (who I met in a bar,) it took a couple dates before I developed sexual attraction (he was so far from my normal “type.” I usually go for swarthier, Arab/Mediterranean men, and he was a very pale Colombian dude.) I say all of that to say, if he hadn’t walked up to me, I would’ve never noticed him.

My best friend was not physically or sexually attracted to her husband initially, but he had ALL of the other qualities she was looking for. They have been together for 15 years, married for 10, and have 2 children while still trying for a 3rd. I don’t think it’s necessarily trendy, but definitely more prevalent and that’s why it comes up A LOT. I don’t think women are forgoing relationships because men suck (they don’t,) but women do have a lot more outlets for emotional intimacy than men do which makes it easier when we want to take some time away from dating. I was thinking the same thing. It seems like OP hasn’t had the best experience with relationships and is assuming other men are having as equally a rough time with their partners. My partner is often my only respite/softness at the end of a hard day after dealing with the demands of family, friends, career. We can sit on the couch and vent or cry or whatever. I like that he feels safe enough to ask me to cuddle him (or give him some downtime) after a bad day. I don’t think I’d find it attractive…

Let’s not forget that he was also married before and has an adult daughter from that relationship! I’m not a fan of his, but I do think his confidence and strong sense of self is what some women likely find attractive/appealing. And when they introduced his storyline, he seems like he might actually be an interesting person, which is a priceless attribute for both men and women.

I don’t think his partner is bad at communicating. I’ve found that often times, if partners don’t share hobbies, both men and women have very different views on what constitutes “spending time,” etc.

This is so far from true (coming from a Black woman.) Black women are the least married population in the US and it’s not because we don’t want to get married. Even for me, I recognize that being half-Arab is a plus for me, otherwise I’d be having just as tough a time securing a partner as most of my friends.

Dating is actually better/easier for women at 25+. You’re still dating older men, but you are no longer dating the 25yo guys who don’t want marriage. It’s actually easier to get married to the guy you want as you age because he’s usually not taken. He’s probably played the field, but he’s ready at 30+. Edit: Just assuming you’re a girl who wants a guy at least 5-10 years older.

I know the expression, but what can’t you believe? Folks meet at 21 and wait until 31 to marry. Or does everyone have to immediately marry within a year? The only thing OP mentioned was marrying at 31. YOU assumed that people married within a year. That’s weird and confusing. Please explain your viewpoint.

I think I’m confused at your summation. Who you’re initially replying to doesn’t suggest that at all.

I replied to a comment that replied to you. My response still stands. People move, etc and find their match. Assuming your life ends at 30 is nonsense.

Agreed. In my peer group, 30ish is normal. People might have partners that they were with for YEARS, but education and career opportunities might’ve caused them to wait (folks move States, Countries, Continents…) I didn’t meet my husband until I was 31, and (luckily) our career choices led us to each other.

My paternal grandparents are from Algeria. They married as teenagers, and soon after my grandmother was forced to move to the US and rarely saw her family. My maternal great-grandmother was forced to marry at age 15 to a 30yo man who’s wife had died; she had been their housekeeper, and he thought his kids would be okay with her stepping in to care for them. My maternal family is from the US; my great-grandmother’s parents could no longer afford to care for her as they had 16 other children and s…

Ummm, people are still forced into arranged marriages in 2023. My grandparents definitely had an arranged marriage in 1950. My husband’s parents had an arranged marriage in the 1980s.

Is this real? I grew up with kids who came from single-parent homes and were on welfare and they always lived in the shittiest apartments, on the shittiest side of town, and our school organized to give them pantry boxes with canned goods and turkeys in them every Thanksgiving. There was no “good lifestyle.” Children are hella expensive, and even with an apartment voucher and monthly food stamps, it couldn’t possibly cover all of your expenses. What should happen: the earnings threshold should b…

Probably. I just know that it’s for men only and that there are a lot of politicians there.

I’ve only attended a few parties, but everyone there was or had been a government official at some point (or was a speech writer for Bush/Obama or something else.) Because House members and state Governors change so often, I would imagine there are hundreds of thousands of members who like to go there when they’re in town and need a good steak without being harangued or photographed.

No, these are clubs, not “businesses”. Kinda like a yacht/country club in the middle of the city, but you have to socialize in civic, social and political milieus. One club even has a branch in London and Paris. The membership at those clubs isn’t small at all, just very exclusive.

That’s why Curves was invented. Unfortunately, it’s mainly for overweight women. As a woman who’s been into fitness since a teen, gyms aren’t great for women. When I row on the bay, I have no problem; guys are super helpful. When I hit the rowing machine at the gym, guys act like they’ve never seen a woman row before. The difference is noticeable. I’m 35 and having witnessed a change in 20 years. Guys at the yacht club respect me as an athlete, guys at the gym want to ask me out.

Well, in DC, guys still have exclusive men’s clubs and societies that women can’t join. I can actually walk past three or four when I’m shopping in Georgetown.

I agree with you 100% in that he likely tried to assault her outside of their normal role play. There was something about his wording that made me question it, especially because he mentioned she wanted it to be “realistic.” I’ve had a similar situation happen. I was in a shitty relationship where I was convinced BDSM was something I wanted and enjoyed, and my partner wanted rape role play. I wasn’t into that idea at all and made it known, so he just waited to assault me one night when I’d passe…
