Or you get it from a broken as shit household and working your ass off for it.

I don’t think you’re making equal analogies. We’re talking about an adult man protecting an adult woman, or even vice versa. Additionally, it depends on what you mean by “equals”, if you’re speaking about pure strength, then you’re right in most of your analogies. If you’re talking about equal wisdom, intelligence, autonomy, then it means something different. Say, a husband and wife, boyfriend and girlfriend, boy who’s friend with girl who’s friend, are in a mass shooting situation. The man in t…

Can you give some examples as to why you think two equals can’t take care of each other? I’ve seen the opposite. In my experience, to protect something doesn’t automatically qualify it as lesser than.

You do realize that spitting on someone can be considered assault in a lot of states? Personally, if anyone does that shit without asking beforehand, I would have difficulty not injuring them.

Obviously, reading minds is a ridiculous notion. But taking a moment to read someone’s body language - especially someone who you’re having a very personal, intimate moment with, is not a large or taxing request. If you observe their body language, and genuinely care about what you find, it’s not hard to identify if they’re feeling uncomfortable or in pain or just not into it anymore. But that would mean that you actually have to care, so...It may be her job to voice it, but it’s also your job t…

Why did this get downvoted so heavily? This thread seems like a huge circle-jerk, rather than an actual discussion about the validity of the idea presented in the OP.

The responsibility of consent is on both people, but I think you’re right, it does primarily fall on men. This is probably because men are doing the penetrating, and women can’t exactly just close their vaginas...Also, men are generally physically stronger and more overpowering than women. So yes, a woman can say no, but a man could easily overpower her. That’s why it’s so important for men to be an active participant in gaining consent. On your point about women talking to women about this issu…

You’re making a generalization. Not all women choose dominant, “masculine” guys. In fact, I’d say not even the majority of women choose these types of men. Mostly because if you are to define these men as dominant and masculine and nothing else, then this is a very small subset of people. People aren’t so simple as dominant and masculine versus sensitive and feminine. Most people are a combination of a lot of traits. Dominant in some respects, while sensitive in others. TRP tries to reduced peop…

Yes, large men definitely feel like more of a threat to me. And I do have a fear response to men who look like the man who raped me (he had a distinct appearance). Unfortunately, I still live in the same city as the man, and I have to work with him occasionally, so it has been hard.

I was raped. EDIT: Why the fuck would I get downvoted for this?

I fit this category - millennial American female. I don't believe I'm disagreeable in general, and I do my best to be polite when interacting with people (saying thank you, excuse me, etc). However, I recently had a traumatic experience with a man, and it has made me very guarded around all men. It's not that I logically believe that all men are out to get me, or hurt me. It's just that I have a fear reaction to men a lot of the time, and assume the worst. So I am what another person described -…

I think with the way that the political climate is changing in a lot of countries, making women more comfortable speaking out about mistreatment. It seems like an influx of “victim hood” to TRP (and other) men. But in actuality, these things that women are suddenly speaking about have been going on for CENTURIES, but you wouldn’t believe it with how they’ve been forced to be silent about it. It’s a huge change, it’s going to take time to adjust to women (and all genders) having just as much powe…

Additionally, if you want people to be compassionate to you, you have to be compassionate to them. Was this a note for me, or to remind yourself? Seems like you aren’t following your own advice. I’m a nurse, I do care about people. Your logic is fallible. The phrase “you can get over it” is reductionist, and omits the complexities of the human mind. You cannot “get over it”. Cope, yes. You’re right, you can find ways to cope. But acting like it didn’t happen isn’t one of them.

If you choose to believe that, then that’s your own prerogative. But there are plenty of women who want to go out and just hang with their friends, or be alone. If you allow yourself to entertain that notion, then you won’t feel as negative about your perception that they’re just too stubborn to approach a man.

No, you can’t just get over it. It’s not something you can just grit your teeth through. I almost killed myself after I was raped, and I still don’t know how to live with it after the fact. And for the record, I am an adult, mature, hold my own job, take care of myself. You don’t care, I get it. It’s fine, I don’t know you. But what if it were your mother, brother, father, children, wife, even yourself? Then I bet you would care. It seems that you are at an unhappy time in your life, but I would…

I’ve heard these feelings from a lot of men, and it makes me sad. How can I make men feel valuable without making it about their sexuality? I try my best, but I’m interested in your opinion/tips.

I don’t see it as so black and white. I can’t say that I would want either of the options that you present. I don’t want someone I have to boss around all of the time, and I am a leader in many ways outside of the bedroom, but I’m good at compromise and discussion. I would say I’m looking for a partner, more so than a leader or a follower.

This is an interesting argument. I want to state that I never said I was blaming anyone for me not expressing my desire to dominate. There absolutely is social expectation for how women should act in the bedroom. I would be interested to see the evidence backing your claims about women being intrinsically, primally submissive. A man has forced me to be submissive before (rape), and I would argue that it has made me even more sexually dominant. And obviously, to your last point, if you take a mor…

If you note what I actually said, I said that you should feel comfortable exploring all aspects of sexuality you think you may enjoy. If you don’t enjoy domination, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Follow your own desires with a consenting partner. I’m saying that if you follow a narrative that condemns the action of letting yourself be dominated by a woman, but you believe that’s something you would greatly enjoy, then you might internalize a lot of guilt over those desires. The Cath…

100%, but those men may not feel comfortable even allowing themselves to entertain the idea of being dominated due to the TRP narrative that they ascribe to.

I'm not saying all of the time, as other posters have mentioned, having anything one way ALL of the time gets boring. I'm confident I can find men in all realms of society that would love to be in the position to be dominated. It's unfortunate that the thought of domination is so threatening to some men's masculinity. You should feel comfortable exploring all aspects of sexuality, in a consenting relationship, you think you might enjoy.

It is unfortunate. It would appear that you're right, as the responses fitting the narrative are being upvoted heavily, whereas an example of a woman who prefers to take charge in the bedroom is all the way at the bottom of the post. Confirmation bias is an ugly bitch. TRP men need to open their minds, AWALT prevents that.

This is interesting because recently I've discovered that I am extremely attracted to the idea of bossing men around in the bedroom, and telling them what to do/what not to do. This is especially alluring if the man is traditionally "masculine". All of this with consent and significant discussion beforehand about it, obviously. But I've never explored this side of myself before. I think maybe I just believed that it wasn't my place because that's not what "most men" are into? I don't know. I'm s…

What the fucking fuck. How do I avoid these men for the rest of my life? Also, “I would just fuck the nurse”? I don’t understand their logic, how do they propose to gain compliance from this individual?

I don't know what to tell you, other than that you don't seem to understand how the scientific method works. Gravity is a poor example, as it is still a large unknown and therefore not directly researchable at this point. Human behavior, however, is. It's true that very few things are proven, but things can be supported by evidence, and evidence leads to validity. Your initial statement is not valid because anecdotal evidence has a low level of evidence, and thus validity to begin with. As an as…

What you’ve just described is anecdotal evidence, and doesn’t support something as 100% fact. This is just your experience. Additionally, due to confirmation bias, you more than likely search for women that support your world view (that ALWALT) and mentally throw out the examples of nALWALT.

Can you please explain why you believe that AWALT is 100% fact?

I would say mine is a combination of both. There have been people that I have such good chemistry with that the sight of them, or interacting with them induces arousal. I've also been in relationships with people who want sex more often than I do, and in that case my sex drive is more responsive. I think women vary between the two, somewhere in between, or not at all (asexual). I'd feel I wouldn't be doing the subject justice if I were to generalize about this. I believe that men and women are e…
