At one point, after the dozen years of a dead bedroom (except to have kids, which was always very easy for us), she made a comment: “go find sex elsewhere!” I did. I was very safe. She would be beyond angry if she found out, as she tends to say things she doesn’t really mean. I was in such a low place beforehand. I’m still going through divorce route, though. As it turns out, we’re incompatible as a couple. Big surprise, right?

Hey man sounds rather similar to me. About the same amount of time together, I’m the breadwinner, I’ve lost all trust in her, each others firsts, my mental heath has never been of interest to her, she’s harmed herself before. It’s tough. I’m doing it because I have to prioritize myself. I have to keep myself from losing my mind. Regarding living in Baton Rouge. I’ve spent time there for work in recent years and I understand what you’re saying. I think there is a lot we put on ourselves about us …

I fooled around with a guy in college. Didn’t get paid $500 but tbh I prob would have. I accepted this about myself over the years. And when I told my therapist 15 years after it happened he said “it’s no big deal. It’s not uncommon” Go out there and be yourself

I was having testicular and pelvic pain. Provider was a nurse practitioner. She had to have a medical assistant in the room as a chaperone. Medical assistant was to my side - when provider checked my testicles the medical assistant actually leaned in to look and gave an approving expression. Both were in their 50s and I in my mid 30s. The provider though said I just have to deal with the pain. I protested. Ended up seeing a urologist and eventually got treated.

The fuck?! Okay. I was a small and skinny guy when I was a teen. And when I was in college. I was told but pretty girls if I had more weight I’d look good. I’m not gonna hate on men cause of it. For fucks sake Just pisses me off. I’m not anti men as a result. I’m more interested in my own masculinity nowadays than I was when I was younger. About to be 40.

My kid’s best friend is a freckled ginger. The rest of his family have dark hair. Sometimes it’s the luck of the draw! We all feel self conscious for a variety of reasons. Fabio wants more perfect hair, I’m sure. Just SPF that boy and do your thing, dad!!!

I appreciate your question. I told my wife last weekend I wanted a divorce. She I think heard that as an ultimatum (which was actually relayed a couple months ago!) and as a result has been really great this past week. Apologizing for not listening to me. And sex has been an issue but this week it’s been so much (x2 day) that I’m not complaining!! My wife, like yours, goes on tirades blaming me for her problems. Same salary as you and she’s a SAHM. But I have 3 kids ; admittedly this week has be…

That’s a tough conversation to have! A few months ago I talked with mine about transparency on our spending. To not all permission but at least mention to each other. And I would do the same That 8k is on one card alone. When I asked about it she said “car insurance” - that’s maybe 20%. She couldn’t explain the rest My net worth aggregator has made it very clear how much credit card debt we’re racking up and it’s freaking me out.

Generally I choose to ignore it. But sometimes, she’ll spend so much money that it takes a lot of mental energy for me to not freak out. For example: 8k this month. I have no idea. A few years ago I put alerts on one of the credit cards to tell me when there was >100 charged. That prompted me to ask her and the charges slowed. I realize now I’m not getting those push notifications and look what happened!

Funny thing is I always imagined myself in a two income household. I was determined to get out of middle class. Fell right into that TRAP!

Interesting. Before we had kids mine didn’t have a job. But she told me I needed to either get a second job or I needed to get a new job that makes more money

Mine has an MBA but hasn’t really worked (several kids). She’ll have to get a job - is that looked upon more favorably for the father in some states more than others

Thank you. I’m buying the book on kindle right now (oh boy if she saw the paperback arrive!!). Also quite a clever title.

I was listening to a podcast today and the guest started talking about his wife and their relationship. I had to turn it off. Just the WORD is making me so mad right now Never did I think I could be so mistreated by another human being

Funny you say this - I learned last night my wife has spent 8k in the last month on just one card. It’s in both of our names (this one she’s primary)

It’s when she’s in a good mood that I feel bad because I have nothing left to give. I’m so fucking exhausted of trying to keep her happy and keep the kids from upsetting her

My wife has said divorce divorce divorce for years (even told me several times I “wouldn’t see a divorce coming” In January I (39M) told her I’m strongly considering divorce She denied ever mentioning it, then said I “misconstrued” and “misunderstood” what she meant. LOTS of apologies and practical begging I think what happened is she liked that power dynamic and I fucked that up by saying I’m ready to be out. I’m planning to have this convo with her in a few weeks

That’s one of the things I’m struggling with. My wife told me for years I “wouldn’t see a divorce coming” with lots of just horrible supporting statements. Then when I tell Im strongly considering it she says I blindsided her. I remind her of her comments, which she initially denied and then said I “misconstrued” and she “didn’t mean.” I’m pretty sure I’m being yanked around but some days I just feel like the bad guy

My wife (15 years together) has made comments like that to me over the years. It was so incredibly hurtful. In recent months after I shared I’m strongly considering divorce she told me at first sure didn’t say those things then said I “misconstrued” them. Some people will say whatever they want because they want to hurt you. To whomever comes next in my wife’s life, I say “good fucking luck” and I’m happy she’s not my problem anymore

Manning just hold my ground on things I want? Wife is SAHM and the finance and house piece stress me out a bit. I figure dip into 401k to help make it through?

I don’t think you are at all unclear, but for some reason I’m having trouble processing this. The mediator is in lieu of the lawyer route, right? And aren’t they supposed to help you come to an agreement on things? I guess I’m wondering: do they manipulate the process in doing so, potentially to the detriment of one of the parties?

Totally. And I feel that every time I try I just get my heart broken all over again And yet I try again

Mine sounds very very similar. I’ve been seeing a therapist for a while. She started a month ago. She told me her therapist said im a narcissist and also asked if I’m committing infidelity. I’m like wtf. I talked with my therapist. He said he hasn’t seen anything to suggest narcissism for me. That helped - cause I realized I really don’t give a fuck what she thinks. She has been incredibly cruel to me. My kids are important and that’s it

The part about the relationship for validation - that really resonated with me. I don’t, either. I’ve always been pretty solo and independent and I am happy to give it all up for my kids. But in marriage it didn’t feel like a compromise - it felt like a sentence

To me, what I think about with my wife and her incredibly hurtful comments in the bedroom and disgust when seeing me workout (I’m good looking and fit), is that she just isn’t attracted TO ME. So if she’s attracted to another man or a woman in the future, it doesn’t matter as much to me. Because it is apparent it’s me she doesn’t like. I believe she did 15 years ago. I’m still attracted to her. But it takes two.

I felt like shit cause I was SHOCKED at how it was all turning out and feeling vindicated. Today her therapist told her she is highly codependent. I’m pretty sure I’m not without some role in this but she’s learning how she controls others Which then begs the next question: do I take her back?? Truthfully I think too much damage has been done and I can’t trust her again. But I’m happy for her she’s growing

My .02 - we went to a single marriage counseling session. My wife told me to pick, so I picked a female counselor to avoid her perceiving it as men are the problem. Well very quickly in the session I brought up a few issues and my wife couldn’t speak (IMHO it was because her shit is so crazy it is indefensible). She ended up having a full blown panic attack and even vomited. Said she didn’t want to do it anymore. Months later my wife said I tricked the therapist into thinking it was all her faul…

My issues are greater than a dead bedroom, and she knows I think she drinks too much (lots of alcoholics in my family and she knows what that did to me). Mine is making appeals for me to be patient with her. Telling me her behavior for the last 15 tears - not supporting me, belittling me - is explainable for a medical reason she is reaching for. Sure I don’t doubt the diagnosis, but she can’t even apologize without making it my fault. I’m currently discussing with my therapist how I stop myself …

Good idea!!! Mine actually slipped off one day when we were hiking and I bought a replacement for $15 on Amazon that I like more. lol. I’ll keep it if I need it!

Oh for sure. In years past when it’s been ungodly quiet in the bedroom I’ve thought ahead. But right now with finances and kids i just don’t have the bandwidth. I feel I’m being tested in so many ways emotionally

I’m 15 together 10 married and I can’t handle it anymore with my wife. Mentally I’m good with divorce. Waiting it out to make sure my mind doesn’t change! Then I’ll tell my wife That said. I can’t even think about dating. It’s so far off base right now. All I know is I feel there’s enough baggage from my marriage I don’t need to think about anyone else

About to ask for the divorce - tired of the cruelty and belittling. She knows I’m considering it and is really trying to get me to not. Financially I will just figure it out by I feel this gives the kids the chance to have guiltier relationships in their futures instead of seeing ours as a model. Good advice here - don’t look back. Thanks!

Tells me I’m misunderstanding her and she didn’t mean what she said For example: “you won’t see a divorce coming” was a threat for years. She told me this weekend she didn’t mean it “You won’t necessarily find happiness after me” was something I misunderstood, said to me in December. Told me I misunderstood last week Things like that.

Hi. I’m new to all this. I have learned about grey rocking but I don’t understand how finances factor in. I’m preparing to ask for a divorce, make good money and she’s a SAHM. I feel I’m going to get screwed.
