I agree with you on this part though. In a non-social setting such as the gym, or your workplace, I don’t think it’s ever acceptable to hit on someone. Would you say it’s better to keep all male-female interactions low pressure though, even at parties and clubs?

You said “it’s not fun for a girl to reject a guy she’s not interested in”. Well likewise it’s uncomfortable for a guy to reject a girl. Rejection sucks for everyone, but I feel like “getting rid” of the rejection component by always giving your number instead just isn’t the answer.

I think no one should ask for someone’s number in the gym because people are there to workout and thus are not receptive to being hit on. But OP was asking if women generally prefer men just give them numbers instead. So that even in social settings such as a party, bar, or club, men should still give numbers instead of ask for them. Did I say they did? When you ask for a number, you at least can make someone consider the prospects of you as a friend/partner, and worse case you are rejected and you move on. Try giving someone your number, and they’ll just forget about it two seconds laters unless you make an extremely good impression.
