NEVER haha or lol about something you say. Like you said, it removes your confidence because you're giving yourself a back door to play it off as a joke if worse comes to worst. And personally I think guys should never use :). And I think the only time you should use Emojis is if she initiates one of those story-telling strings of Emojis. I haven't looked at Australia specifically, mainly the UK, but it seems like a catch 22.
