Tired of the gaslighting BSWas in this EXACT situation with my ex. $170-180k a year. 5 kids. SAHM. Always the same responses youre getting. I'd also get the "you need hobbies and you might be happier" but everytime I tried to do something outside her scope of what I should be doing was met with friction. | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/12/25 10:02 PM
Dichotomy of emotions?Are you a pastor by chance? | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/11/25 07:23 PM
Dichotomy of emotions?Appreciate the view. I think I can honestly I say I tried over the years, but truly there was a point I did give up. You may be correct in the guilt aspect. I do feel guilty in a sense I gave up, even though she did also. I feel guilty my kids are the hardest hit by this. I do feel guilty in the sense of maybe I should have tried harder. I dont know. Sometimes I wish my divorce was on the grounds of some egregious failure, as it would make more sense to me, but the reality is it was years of the… | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/11/25 07:22 PM
My son just asked for a divorce — how do I actually help him through this?Wish you and your son the best, as this can be the best and worst of situations. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/11/25 06:12 AM
My son just asked for a divorce — how do I actually help him through this?Don't act like it's not happening. I know that sounds simple as shit, but both my parents acted like nothing was happening to an extent. The entire time both parents expressed sentiments of "I hope you reconcile." While I get what they were aiming for to a point, I just wished they would see their son in pain vs their son/a situation needing fixing, I assume you love your son dearly, and want the best for him, this may be the best despite any misgivings you have, Just love on him, be an ear for … | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/11/25 06:06 AM
Did you feel your divorce attorney advocated for you?My lawyer advocated for me while also being realistic in what would get settled and what wouldnt. In the long run is saved me money in mediation and the back and forth bullshit. I think there is a fine balance there. A lawyer can advocate for you till their blue in the face, but if all it results in is more legal fees cause the other lawyer is doing the same, it's not a win for me personally. Juat my 2 cents. | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/10/25 12:34 AM
I walked away todayI think it steps out of abdonment when she said he could leave. Abandonment usually entails leaving without consent or knowledge. She gave him consent and knew about it. But I could be wrong. | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/10/25 10:47 PM
Letting go of past friend groupsSame. I've lost everyone from "our" circle. But like another guy commented, I have not reached out to them. I feel awkward, don't want them to feel like they have to choose sides and truthfully don't want to hear the religious bullshit about getting divorced, main reason i don't speak to my mother much anymore after the divorce, all she wants to do is "pray for me and hope God restore me", but all I really want is a caring mother to ḥear her hurting son as a fucking human. | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/10/25 06:35 PM
Any of you dads agree to homeschooling? In this boat now. HS prior to separation to which i was fully on board with, and still am. Kids these days are little shits. Anyways, in our final agreement she has the right to HS, which again I still agree with but the ugly side of me wrestles with its just another way to never work and live of me. | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/09/25 11:49 PM
Those that cheated…I get that brother. Being in the middle of this is rough, it's hard to see the forest through the trees. You're not a coward however. By asking the questions you're asking and wrestling with this, it shows you care and are trying to handle it right. As long as your thoughts don't breed actions you'll later regret, I think you're doing just fine. It's ok to wrestle with this. Take a deep breathe and take some time to figure out what you want and need. | /r/Divorce_Men | 03/09/25 07:42 PM
Those that cheated…Full transparency, as someone who has cheated it muddies the waters and provides only more confusion to an already series of confusing emotions and feelings. Once you cheat youre now splitting your emotions between 2 people and trying to navigate that while "liking" one and "not liking" the other causes you to do things you wouldn't normally do because you may feel pressure from the one you "like". Do yourself a favor and sit long and hard thinking on your current relationship. If this is the wo… | /r/Divorce_Men | 03/09/25 06:59 PM
I want to move on emotionally, but alimony won’t let meBrother your story is eerily similar to mine. I thought I was reading my story for a second | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/09/25 02:33 PM
Can you trust your lawyer?Ill be the voice of the other side, my lawyer was 100% stand up and I've never met her. My ex moved 22 hours away so everything has had to be done in her state of residence. My lawyer has been honest, upfront and communicative since day 1. My ex lawyer on the other hand...pile of dog shit. | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/08/25 03:26 PM
Temporary orders were set today by judge, won some lost someYup. Sole provider here. 4k a month, among numerous other things. | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/08/25 03:03 PM
Got all my papers done todayJust signed my final agreement to today. Sad how the woman who for the past 20 years said "I dont want you to work your life away.", and "you're not just a paycheck." has gotten everything financially she wanted including lifetime alimony and a $1 million life insurance policy with her as the beneficiary. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/08/25 07:41 PM
What ruined your marriage? It hasn't been fun, we are still in the middle of a 2 year divorce. Every agreement that gets sent to her is declined despite us having verbal discussions as to what she wants and being thrown into a new agreement. As it stands she wants the life she had before, still hasn't worked since being apart, I pay 4k a month in child support and alimony, carry all the health care, hold a life insurance policy for 1mil with her as the beneficiary (but it's for the kids), pay the kids car insurance, half … | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/08/25 04:02 PM
What ruined your marriage? We were together since high school. 20 year relationship in total. 5 kids. I gave her the life she verbally said she wanted (stay at hone mom, raise the kids, homeschooling, not have to work ever). However it came at a price. A 7 person household isn't cheap to raise. I felt like she didn't value what I brought to the table financially and it always felt like I couldn't do enough to make her happy. She felt like I didn't respect what raising the kids meant. That lead to a breakdown in the relati… | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/08/25 03:37 PM
How much do you pay child support?Yup. Plus holding all the insurance. | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/08/25 11:49 PM
How much do you pay child support?4k a month between CS and SS | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/08/25 10:08 PM
AngerI'm in the middle of this now. 5k a month is child support and alimony, 1/2 my retirement ect. Married 16 years. Never had a job. Still doesn't. But guess what, the salary i pay her still isn't enough, meanwhile I love paycheck to paycheck it feels like. Fucking shit sucks and the system is a fucking joke. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/07/25 06:09 AM
What do you pay for child support? You're telling me | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/02/25 11:34 PM
What do you pay for child support?5 kids. 180k a year. 4k a month. | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/02/25 10:06 PM
