We've never argued over my appearance, but I'm growing my hair out for him. I also got my tongue pierced mostly for him and remove more body hair than I'd usually bother with. It makes him feel important and lived when I do little things for him :)

I'm growing my hair out as well, though it's not nearly as long as yours yet. I've gotten the "that's sexist/unfeminist" response too! How dare I make my husband happy by doing something I don't really care about either way?

So something that hasn't been touched on yet is if your relationship is actually any good. Lots of people fall in love with people in high school that they really shouldn't marry. Can you see yourself with him in another decade? Does your family and friends approve of him? I'm not going to talk you out of keeping your high school boyfriend (my husband and I have been together since high school and doing great) but college can be a good time to meet someone. The sleeping around part is overrated,…

That's definitely a pickle. It's very difficult to be what people want/need when they won't tell you.

I don't quite agree with that. There's a big difference between men who are working towards their full potential and men who will become alcoholic manchilds.

Why did you keep having children if it had such a negative impact on your relationship? Why is your husband saying negative things about you when you're trying to have sex? What do you mean by "more adventurous"? What do those have to do with feeling old and therefore unattractive? Therapy and mindfulness meditation may help you learn to deal with negative feelings in a healthy way and let them go. That's something you can control.

I have literally never seen that, and I've been lurking a long time.

Did your ILs nag your husband about you before you two married? How has he handled his parents opinions before? I highly suggest posting at r/JustNoMIL too, as they have a ton if collective experience dealing with toxic ILs. I'm not sure if this kind of comment is allowed here, but I've read many stories like yours, and it sounds like your husband is trying to throw you under the bus in self defense. RPW is one of the few places I see where women consider themselves an active participant in their relationships and consider that maybe they're partly to blame for their relationship troubles.

I found the sub through a post discussing the creation of /r/FeminineNotFeminist. I stayed because this sub's full of lovely women with good advice who take responsibility for their actions. I guess I mostly follow for theory and advice posts.

I have to say, most of those Met dresses are amazing. But wow, is skin in right now o.O Imagine that second dress over a similarly fitting black or burgundy one.

I highly recommend Lucy Corsetry on YouTube plus her blog. She's reviewed a ton of corsets and gives great advice. You can change your waist size, but it'll take time, work, and probably at least one custom corset. It's not exactly a cheap hobby, although you can get decent corsets for like $50. Those latex things on Instagram are fake and will not give you results.

For people who didn't look up the actual study: Study 2: cartoon shape helps or hinders another shape up a hill. Overall, the bonobos preferred the hinderer, but not to a significant degree. However, when divided by age, adult bonobos significantly preferred the hinderer. Subadults were just under 50/50 (chance). Study 3 was similar but looked at whether bonobos shifted their baseline preference after an individual was shown to behave antisocially - 10/18 of them changed to preferring the hinder…

The Dark Triad personality: Attractiveness to women College undergrad women rated "about me" descriptions of DT men as more attractive than ones with a good Big 5 rating. This actually isn't surprising to me - as other people have said, male jerkness "bad boy" etc type behaviors seem to be sexually exciting for women. but is eventually tamed by her to be nice to her and her only I can't say I agree with that though. There's a difference between who's suitable to have sex with and who you'd actua…

I'll have to read them later when I have computer access. I guess my main questions are 1) are we talking about personality or resources because those are independent things, and 2) are we talking sexual attraction or marriage/pair-bonding/LTRs?

What can be realistically extracted from the female status-seeking behavior of our closest ancestors relatives? Not a whole lot, actually. If all our closest relatives share a trait then we likely do too, but primatology gives us the best idea of what our last common ancestor was like (in my opinion). As already mentioned, there's a lot of cultural things that dictate how people act or choose mates. I wouldn't draw conclusions from bononos but use it as a starting point for human research. Bonon…

He doesn't believe in evolution because Charles Darwin was racist. There's really nothing you can do about that kind of gut reaction.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 08:03 PM

Lol. Because you can't back up any of your beliefs and are pulling numbers out of thin air? I agree, there's no more point to this conversation.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 07:57 PM

Dude, Charles Darwin is dead and does not dictate the beliefs if the field a hundred years later.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 07:51 PM

The same people that said this say Blacks are apes which justified racism. I totally missed this comment and it's absolute nonsense. A person here or there, maybe, but that hasn't been a popular or accepted scientific belief since before my mother was born. The people claiming that science proves white supremacy are wrong, a minority, and not scientists.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 07:13 PM
1

"Just a theory." This is why science education is do important. Gravity is also a theory, scientists use the word differently, which I freely admit causes more problems than not. There is proof of evolution by the way - both experiments and observational studies - I recommend looking up Belyaev's study in domesticating foxes. Also, who gave you those figures and why do you think evolution has to be perfect? I'm not trying to attack you, I'm genuinely interested.

1

My apologies.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 06:37 PM
1

Oh my God, you don't understand evolution at all, do you? Species can split, usually because they're physically separated. The apes we evolved from (our Last Common Anscestor) isn't around anyway. Quick question: do you believe that all human actions and beliefs are choices, no instinct?
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 06:36 PM
2

They are the ancestors of specific people but not of our species.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 06:28 PM
1

This happened to be the last comment of yours that I came to.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 06:26 PM
2

Well, a) humans are apes and we do actually share a lot of behavior with chimps and bononos, even though they're different species. b) you can't extrapolate from lions to humans. We're not closely related, we're not similar (not carnivores, don't have harems), and stepfathers murdering children is a choice we can make, not an instinctual reaction.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 06:25 PM
1

I can't find where that article proves your point. They're talking about the last common ancestor shared by humans and chimps. The only people who say that chimps and bononos are our ancestors are people who don't know what they're talking about.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 06:17 PM
1

You keep saying ape when you should be specifying species. Bononos prefer jerks, that doesn't mean that all apes do.

As long as your maintenance isn't harmful or getting in the way of life it's fine. There will be men who accept and even appreciate the work you put into it. Remember, men are individuals.
/r/RedPillWomen09/01/18 05:58 PM
1

You're basing your beliefs about human nature on how we react to a situation very, very different than anything we evolved to deal with. I don't think that's fair, but g'day.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 07:05 AM
1

You're very attached to that outdated idea of the big, bad, testosterone-fueled caveman, I'll let you keep it. Anthropology has learned more and moved on, though. Fun fact you might enjoy, though - it turns out that bononos follow social interactions and pay attention to who's being nice or mean... And then prefers the jerks, lol.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 06:55 AM
1

Armies had farmers? Ok then. Modern human beings. Modern. Not "almost human", not "human ancestors". Us. We are much, much older than armies, the police, writing, and even cave paintings.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 06:45 AM
2

Our species is over 200,000 years old though. 3,000 is nothing. Peacefully enough. I'm interested in what you're meaning by "all the time." Anyway, armies and specialized workers aren't self-supporting. Ever wonder why hunter-gatherers don't have professions? Everybody is focused on subsistence. It wasn't until agriculture and permanent farming communities that societies had the surplus (and food storage abilities) for having some people could leave that to fulfill other roles.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 06:36 AM
3

"Constantly" is a hella strong word, and you know recorded history, especially about anything but business, does not go back very far? Like, I'm not trying to say that humans are idyllic love critters, but we've managed to live together peacefully enough - even without armies and the police. (Also, Google spandrels and hitchhiking genes. Not relevant to this conversation, but your knowledge of genetics and evolution could be dusted off.)
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 06:27 AM
3

Humans exhibit sexual dimorphism, but not to a high degree. Also, it could very well be caused by the need to be better hunters, it's not necessarily a sexual control/competition thing. eta - not all existing traits are actually selected for, even. Spandrels and hitchhiking genes exist, although I admit it's unlikely in this case.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 06:12 AM
4

Except that evolutionary biology and psychology say otherwise. Claiming that humans are awful regardless of societal context is just false.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 05:03 AM

You can often just look at a woman and see that she's uncomfortable or unhappy with herself though, is what I'm trying to say. The way they dress, their body language, how open they are in general. Are men really not like that?
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 04:55 AM

re putting up a front: obviously I've never been a man, do y'all really display low self-esteem that much different than women?
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 04:35 AM

You had intended to imply that common decency is hard to find in large-scale societies specifically, not that humans aren't generally decent?
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 04:33 AM
3

I can see what you're saying about the cause of their depression, although maybe they should phrases their own complaints better. Lashing out at or punishing strangers because women won't touch you, except that you don't want women's behavior to change because that would be fake? As for why RP men say they want to avoid unnecessary contact with women... does it matter why? Yeah, they had a bad divorce and are afraid of being hurt again. Does not showing women common decency help? At all? I can't…
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 04:30 AM
3

Yeah, bro, I'm sorry, but 200,000+ years of living as modern humans before agriculture (at which time a society could support having armed forces) didn't leave us unable to live together.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/18 04:04 AM

It's natural to assume that guys going "I have low self-esteem because I don't get attention from women" would like more attention from women. I'm jumping to sex because TRPs have made it clear that they only want to interact with women they're related to or fucking. Source: all that fear-mongering about AWALT and how you can't trust women to not cry sexual harassment.

Very true. You can have a healthy self-esteem without basing it on how others perceive your physical attractiveness.

Attractiveness is subjective.

Yeah, men on Reddit seem to spend a lot of time feeling sorry about themselves, but most guys I know IRL (and I know a lot, college) seem to think they look fine. Even the weird and overweight don't have the crippling self-esteem issues I read about here. Of course, they also aren't the kind of man who spends his time on TRP.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/01/18 10:34 PM

I can understand that. It's a symbol of your marriage that you're going to look at for the rest of your life. I wanted mine to be decent as well. (Also, for men reading and saying, "well, yeah, women" my ring requirements were less than my fiance's.)
/r/PurplePillDebate08/01/18 10:05 PM

I think you're being a little dramatic. Disagreement's not going to make her husband file for divorce. What she's saying is that most things aren't worth wasting time arguing over and she'd rather not place herself in opposition, since most things aren't that important. From what I can tell, your only real problem seems to be that she's fem red pill? I feel like if she used different phrases that you'd readily agree.

Yup, they're new and super interesting. However, it would be really stupid for me to base my decision regarding marriage on it since I'm an individual. Saying "never married people are better off" is a lie and an oversimplification. Never married people are generally better off is the truth. eta - I'm also against people saying "well generally married people are happier and healthier so that's what you should do too." Leaving you for Chad, making decisions based on "feels" instead of "logic," not putting out when they expected, being (seen as) irrational, claiming rape to get back at a man. Basically, not acting like a man or a blow-up doll.

There are a ton of different studies on marriage and they all say different things. I also want to keep better in touch with my family. I grew up literally next door to my great-grandparents and just down the road from my grandma and aunts, so I never had to try. When asked of what is it that would make him feel that I do care, he said that I should know myself and he doesn’t know if he wants to have a girlfriend that needs to be instructed on that. What absolute nonsense. You're not a mind-reader! I would see if you can figure out his love language though, since that seems to be the problem. What you're doing to show you love him is not what makes him feel loved. However, not trusting you is a huge red flag. If you can figure out his love language and l…

Does you BF take his sisters advice? Because if so, he should definitely be prioritizing you and what you want, not what she thinks. If her marriage is that bad, you could also ask your BF if that's really the kind of relationship he's going for - don't take advice from people with bad relationships, seriously.

How long have you been together? 'Cause the in-love, honeymoon, lovey-dovey chemical brain stuff that makes you feel in love only lasts two years. After that it's work - you make the choice to love your partner. Love is an action. I would recommend reading some of Laura Doyle and Dr Laura Schlessinger's books, though.

I ask because legal protections are not present if one person dies suddenly/unexpectedly. Marital rights are also ambiguous if a live-in partner becomes seriously ill. I'm not invested in the idea of marriage - but this alone is enough to justify marriage IMO.

I do want a LTR. I just don't see the added value of marriage. This is the boat I'm in, as well (kind of). Don't want kids, don't really care about marriage. The tax benefits and boyfriend's insurance might be nice, though. I also grew up seeing my mother tied to an awful man and divorcing him ended up being a nightmare, so I was slightly afraid of marriage. My boyfriend and I will still assume that we'll actually get married at some point (bare-bones civil ceremony thing, no wedding) for the al…

My concern for OP is that her boyfriend isn't even willing to discuss marriage with her, after 4 years. This. He's comfortable talking about other aspects of his (their?) future, but not wanting to talk about their relationship? Not even agreeing that yeah, kids and marriage, but wait until graduation? It kind of sounds like he feels trapped or 'tied down' by those conversations, which is a bad sign.

What role do you think we as women/wives/mothers play in defining/encouraging a particular flavour of masculinity, if any? A lot. I've been reading a few of Dr. Laura's books and one of the things she talks about is how important mothers and wives are for controlling/directing male behavior. Men want attention and respect from women. (Specifically, she talks about promiscuity being detrimental.)

My man and I have discussed this and we've decided to keep our original names (or choose a new one). Neither of us love our own name or each others name enough to insist on changing them. Plus, I'm planning on going into academia and keeping the same name throughout is important to me.

I'm so happy someone mentioned that book, it's amazing.

I just started Care & Feeding of Husbands and I love how no-nonsense she is! I'm really considering trying her radio program.

I don't know exactly what you mean by grunge, but could you not mix it in with more traditionally feminine styles or pieces? eta: You also said that you wish you could wear shorter skirts, but can't because of your scars. Are you comfortable in leggings or tall socks? Those would allow you to wear a shorter skirt without showing off your scars.

I think she's saying that self-care in general is difficult for women, just like letting yourself ravish/"take" your sexual partner is hard for men. They're afraid that they're too rough, or of their own desires, etc.

I think I'm going to need an example of when and how a women should "throw money" at a guy after having sex with him. I need to understand what was going through your mind when you wrote that.

I'm not spontaneous or goofy (although I am really silly and weird, apparently), but these are my tips: I don't really go out of my way to act like we've just started dating or make things super exciting (neither of us is that person!) but I do sometimes need to remind myself to not get complacent and stop trying. All the little things, like kissing when you leave, and touching his arm as you pass by are what matter the most, to me. Making sure I ask him how his day was before I start telling hi…

I stick to the female-dominated side of Reddit. I'm most actives on skincare subs, but I also follow a few makeup and clothes subs and r/xxfitness. Oh, and gardening, but I rarely check those at this time of year.

I don't have any recipes, but try cooking with tofu or seitan. I usually just add them to stir-fry and stuff. Even my gun-loving, hunting grandpa likes tofu!

My first goal is to eat more protein by adding amaranth or TVP to my oatmeal and/or making sure that I cook a real dinner with seitan or tofu every day. I'd also like to keep my legs smooth. I've had hairy legs for years because I hate shaving and you have to grow too much stubble before rewaxing. So I've just purchased an epilator, which I'll be able to use the week after next. I'm also exploring my gym in preparation for starting Strong Curves in January, so I want to do some strength training…

I don't think there's anything specific I need to work on right now, but I'd like to understand the mindset better and set us up for a more successful, lifelong relationship.

My experience with TRP makes my experience with RPW a surprise, that's all. I don't think I'd ever really heard women's views on it, definitely not in favor of it. And I don't think I explained properly. I think there are a lot of men who read TRP and take it to mean that women are lesser than them or worthless and it leads to bad situations, toxic beliefs, and abusive actions. It's totally possible to be respectful of people you're seeing casually or aren't interested it, of course. Just... som…

Naw, I expect that you married a gentleman. However, a lot of men aren't looking for a forever relationship and don't care too much about the women they see.

A lot of men's "game" involves being sexist douchebags and manipulating women in unhealthy ways. shrugs I really don't want to go digging around for specific examples. I've stuck around RPW because I find it fascinating.

Even if you're not spontaneously in the mood In my experience, foreplay is waaay more important for women than men. So while your husband may be ready 24/7, you might not be ready until sex has already been initiated. Basically, acting sexy leads to feeling and being sexy.

I'm new here, and honestly? The idea that an RP-style relationship could be beneficial. That there are women who actually love it, since a lot of the RP stuff I see around Reddit is abusive.

In addition to what everyone else has said, you can only change yourself. You can't make your husband do anything, especially without causing even more issues and drama. However, you can change yourself and your actions. And if you have a good husband, I'd expect him to see how much you love and cherish him and try to "pay it back," so to speak. (That didn't quite come out right.)

"Culture of appreciation," I love that. It's really important to keep showing that you love and appreciate your partner or husband. One thing that helps when we're arguing is physical contact. Even just touching our feet together helps us feel connected when we're upset with each other. Reminds us that we're in this together and jump starts the making-up process.
