I also met a good friend on Bumble BFF! She was my first (and only) Bumble BFF date! We went for coffee, and she has since introduced me to a bunch of her girlfriends and we all have a book club together!

I heard someone say “you marry your own glass ceiling.” If you marry someone who thinks his career is more important or takes priority to yours, you are in trouble - it will set limits on what you can do. I have a HVM bae who will take more parental leave than me if we have a kid, b/c he recognizes that my job/career path is just as important as his (if not more, as it is more connected to making the world a better place). Plus I make 50% more $$$, though he makes plenty himself! I did a big big…

The HVM I'm with is also a Ph.D. But I also have a law degree, so I still win in the # of degrees :)

That was to her mom, and yeah, that was a bit awkward but sort of adorkable. Dude needs to work on his flow...

Super interesting. I didn't get a fetishizing vibe (and I'm a black woman who has dealt with that before), but it's definitely possible. He was suuuuuuuper into her, but I just took that as him recognizing that she was a catch. Curious as to what things gave you the fetishizing vibe? So much of the dialogue was cut, and in an interview, they did note that it seemed like all of their discussions of race made the cut, and made it seem like that was a bigger part of their conversations than it was.…

Also you get paid to do your Ph.D. at most reputable places?

I’m also from the land of maple leaves! Whoop! I was lucky - I never was with anyone who thought I should be grateful. I think the multiple degrees and athletic achievements scared those kinds of dudes away from the jump. A lot of first dates where the guy had very little going on and expected me to be impressed by his weekly soccer game in the park and his job with a clear lack of ambition, who would maybe ask me about my stuff. Then I’d be all “Wellllllll, I competed on the national team for m…

It’s all about quality, not quantity. Who wants to attract a ton of LVMs? I definitely scare off most human men because of my education and achievements, and because I love and value myself. And that’s great. I don’t have time for people who want me to make myself smaller to make other people feel better about themselves. I would 100% rather be alone than have to dim my shine. I keep people who add value to my life, in some form or another.

I am a Ph.D. holding black woman with rad 4c hair that can rock a twist out like nobody's business, who is doted on by her Ph.D. holding European boyfriend, who provides all the roses/tacos/date nights/backrubs, knows my preferred kombucha flavours, and is fiscally responsible. I have never felt fetishized, not for a single second. He loves me because I'm me. He loves my brain most of all. NEVER SETTLE.

Yup. My boyfriend and I were long distance for the 2nd and 3rd months of our relationship. Every single morning, for 2 months, there was a good morning text, video or audio message waiting for me when I woke up, wishing me some variant of a good day. EVERY SINGLE MORNING. Even now, he calls me every day we are apart just to hear my voice.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
