You owe it to yourself, him, and your marriage to have a serious and direct conversation about how close you are to done. I suspect he doesn’t know and could come on here after you leave and claim he was blindsided. Randomly throwing out the D word informally during a fight is a terrible and destructive thing to do. Don’t do that. Telling a spouse you are so close to done you have an exit date is necessary. He deserves to know the stakes and take action. Sorry you’re going through this but it so…

When my dad got custody I can remember at one point the bushes out front were massively overgrown. My dad said something about it being embarrassing and it hasn’t even occurred to me. It just didn’t matter that much.

Since they are property that he acquired before the marriage they are his property.

There is absolutely no chance they will force your parents to sell a property. This might be one of the most straightforward divorces ever.

I sure hope she doesn’t take you back. Leave her alone. These situations always escalate.

Laundry detergent? Good grief

Agree. I did digital forensics for 23 years. I don’t really believe most attorneys are ‘shotgunning’ subpoenas to every domestic bank and even if they did, if someone were that motivated they’d have moved assets offshore.
/r/Divorce_Men26/06/26 10:33 PM

It doesn’t matter if they can’t serve you if they make considerable efforts they can set you by posting. They’re probably already doing that if you avoided twice.

If she’s hiding assets I question whether she would produce the relevant statements in discovery. Are you thinking she’ll just be like ‘awwwww ya got me! Here it is!’ Having worked many divorce cases if you think you have the information you need, I’d skip.
/r/Divorce_Men26/06/26 03:04 AM

How did you run into her and learn she was using your name (which is her name)?
/r/Divorce_Men25/06/26 11:03 PM

This would be stupid and petty, it will not affect the division of assets. If you already divided assets thank your lucky stars it’s amicable and move on.

No they won’t for a marriage that short it will probably be no alimony
/r/Divorce_Men14/05/26 03:40 AM

No you’re thinking of alimony. Child support is until the child is 18, and sometimes beyond.

In the Us judges hate this because they know the strategy
/r/Divorce_Men04/05/26 09:18 PM
2

Not to mention judges have been wise to this strategy for many years and it will not help endear him to the judge
/r/Divorce_Men03/05/26 05:34 AM

Again, that isn’t true. Judges are wise to this and look disfavorably on this behavior. So you could be screwing yourself.

As a child of divorce when I was a teen, you are absolutely right. I got so fed up with switching back and forth I just stopped and stayed with my dad. A judge went along with it. It is so fking annoying to have had your shit here, half your shit there, and try to keep track of everything. And the back and forth is so disruptive.

You’re getting used. Why does it matter how she expects you to act? Conduct yourself maturely in the manner that you want. Sounds a little like your new friendship might be a cluster waiting to happen. If she’s in a relationship I’d suggest doing something with him as well, with your friends or whatever. Three wheeling it isn’t weird if the feelings are truly above board.

She didn’t work at all in the three years they were together. It’s right there in the post. Alienation of affection would be a catastrophically bad decision to make. It is utterly pointless and expensive. And suing for money spent on hotels wouldn’t be a counter suit to an alienation of affection claim it would all be in the divorce complaint. You don’t have any idea what you’re talking about.

If you’re referring to couples struggling with infertility that is a rather important caveat

If I can offer some unsolicited advice, you’re not doing this right. I can only tell you from the perspective of a daughter that had all this happening. It completely and thoroughly backfired. The fact that my mom was always denigrating my dad sucked. My dad never said a sore thing about her. Ever. And she was the asshole. He held my family together with my sister and I. We are estranged from my mom. A huge portion of why I’m estranged from her was the constant attempts at parental alienation. T…
/r/Divorce_Men29/01/26 08:16 AM
2

Don’t give up on this. Your kids will learn who cared when it mattered. Could take a long time. It’s worth every minute. I’m old now, my dad is still alive. He would describe every second of that alienation worth it times 100.
/r/Divorce_Men29/01/26 08:04 AM
2

Don’t give up. My mom was heavy on the alienation. I’m 44, sister has two kids, we are all close and engaged in each other’s lives. Haven’t talked to my mom in two decades. My dad was always there for us. Kids figure this out pretty early.
/r/Divorce_Men29/01/26 08:01 AM
1

This is exactly how my dad would have approached this. He had primary custody. I’m 44 now and totally estranged from my mom and I’m 💯 fine with it. Still very close to dad. Your kids will know. They already do.
/r/Divorce_Men29/01/26 06:37 AM

He called himself a babysitter. He’s a parent. That’s the relevance.
/r/Divorce_Men29/01/26 04:22 AM

Your dog was left outside overnight? Who is the parent here? Aren’t you ultimately responsible for the pet that is in your care?
/r/Divorce_Men11/01/26 09:52 PM

You could have taken care of your kids while running your business? Or she could have made more money than daycare coats? The second is probably true
/r/Divorce_Men06/01/26 07:38 AM

Court will sort this out for him
/r/Divorce_Men06/01/26 07:37 AM

I wouldn’t suggest you tell them to ignore her fiancé, just as you would prefer your ex not to try to remotely parent your kids when they are at your house. But sure have a talk with her.
/r/Divorce_Men04/01/26 04:42 PM
4

Why did you put “time” in quotes? I assume it took actual time to care for your children no? Or were they in daycare?

Doesn’t matter
/r/Divorce_Men04/01/26 12:12 AM

SERIOUSLY. That is not a friendly thing to do to a friend. Bunch of morons.
/r/Divorce_Men01/01/26 08:16 PM

I think it’s completely fine to draw the line here. If she’s going to be a prick add the alimony back in.
/r/Divorce_Men20/12/25 03:27 PM

This. This. This. It won’t even get the desired outcome if he does it. Could massively backfire.
/r/Divorce_Men20/12/25 08:28 AM

But did any of that happen?
/r/Divorce_Men20/12/25 08:27 AM

You really think divorce would leave you homeless ‘or worse’? I’ve never heard of that happening. In CA
/r/Divorce_Men04/12/25 05:26 AM

That should work flawlessly

I’m so sorry to hear that, it sounds incredibly emotionally complex.

For some reason she was already 90% there before the haunt.
/r/Divorce_Men11/11/25 03:20 AM

I don’t want to give you false hope, but I do want to give you a LITTLE hope. When my mom divorced my dad we were 13,15. We quickly figured out what she was doing trying to alienate us from him. Five years later both of us were estranged from her. It’s been 30 years. They will figure it out if they haven’t already, and they will resent the parent doing the alienation. I’ve seen this happen a bunch of times.
/r/Divorce_Men08/11/25 08:32 PM

I see. So you’re just gathering insights for when you’re in this situation. I wonder how he would feel if he read this thread? Maybe you’ve told him about it.
/r/Divorce_Men08/11/25 01:48 AM

But do you really respect his opinion? Because you wrote it up on Reddit and you clearly think he’s getting screwed. What does any of this have to do with you?
/r/Divorce_Men07/11/25 03:24 PM

Completely agree. In a way it might even be helpful because you’ll know whether she’s holding on for money, or is genuinely interested in reconciliation
/r/Divorce_Men05/11/25 12:00 AM

I am impressed by therapists that do this. Not every relationship can (or should) be saved and counseling does not always improve things. It takes a therapist with integrity to fire clients.

‘give her a cash allowance’ Make sure you do this. If you lock down all the money a judge is not going to be pleased.

I do think he needs to find a space though cause this could take awhile. I’d take photos of every room in the house, tell her if she doesn’t clean the garage you’ll discard everything, and stick to that decision.
