Some men have power, some men work like a dog for very little pay in harsh conditions. If you keep yourself fit as a woman you can land a guy and set yourself up for a very comfortable life. Men don't really have that option of securing a future by just bringing looks and a pleasant personality to the table, they have to work hard for whatever they want(women, money, etc).

They could also assume that the guy broke the engagement off due to the discovery of some indiscretion or other fatal flaw. Fun fact: when the courts stopped awarding payments due to broken engagments women started demanding expensive wedding rings as a sort of collateral. Thus was the engagement ring tradition born.

If you are very affectionate, sweet and loving he will be more likely to wait. I would say 1 year of dating and then 6-12 months engagement is enough to determine if you are compatible. Keep in mind that sex has historically been tolerated if not praised during the engagement phase.

My BF showed me some videos on how to squat and deadlift from the Starting Strength video series. They showed a variety of people including young girls deadlifting and squatting weights. Non of them looked too bulky. Maybe if you start lifting really heavy weights this might be a problem. My goal is to squat and deadlift about one and a half times my bodyweight! Hopefully I will not end up looking like the hulk lol

Part of the problem is that our current car/huge house/suburb culture puts great physical distance between people. In countries like Italy you can walk down the street, see people you know and really feel like a part of the community. In america you walk down the street in the suburbs and don't see anyone. Everyone is inside in the air conditioning glued to the TV. People were not meant to be isolated!
