Fair warning for non-Australian readers, "The Australian", formerly a flag-ship newspaper, these days largely larps as a right-wing cultural grievance machine. The data they reference might be true/correct, but their interest in approaching the topic is opportunistic and may be purposefully omitting or misconstruing the data.

People don't want men to fix it. Let's say we enter some magical reality and find the perfect advice that goes viral that somehow emancipates most working class men of their loneliness and they become happy self-sufficient individuals akin to the woman idealized by feminism, strong independent, with goals and desires and the autonomy to seek and achieve them on her own. That ideal man would be functionally much much harder to exploit and that creates a huge amount of problems for people invested…

This is a classic case of people who really shouldn't be in relationships, being in relationships, then looking for reasons why it's everyone else's fault it isn't working properly. If you have a partner, whom you care about, you learn to make it work, you learn to communicate, you learn to share burdens and responsibilities and challenges because that's what you both want to do. Equality isn't "I did exactly half the chores exactly the way you liked them, and I also only contributed exactly hal…

Some people don't have great social skills. In a lot of those scenarios I would advise that if you want to make a move, be honest, and don't set ultimatums, because the relationship you think you see and what's actually happening might not be aligned and you don't want to be throwing bombs if what you're getting back is a gentle sorry, but no.

Lol, you joke but as someone who is not 100% straight, a question got posed to me that made me think if I would be intimate with any of the men I know, and I suddenly felt some overwhelming sympathy for quite a few women.

Yeah it's not great. In a broader context there is a massive mental health issue among men and it interacts with and compounds upon this "dating issue". By and large our child socialization strategies are poor and a little too "early 1900s", designed for a culture in human interaction that kind of doesn't exist anymore. A lot of boys grow up with massive insecurities about their self-worth, about what they want in life, about what's expected of them, and we kind of just assume they'll sort it ou…

Two things. One, in the end you have to take control of your life and ask for what you want. Never expect things of people, and by and large don't listen to the whinging of social mores if they make no sense. If you want something, ask for it, it will come with risk but you have to be honest, if you don't take initiative and just expect society to provide at best you may get lucky. Two, people need to learn to be ok with themselves. Too often, if I dig, into people's obsessions over dating most …

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
