Thanks for the context, but were the complaints about comments that didn't meet 2X's guidelines? Because I've seen Eddie get a lot of downvotes and hate for very relevant and worthwhile comments. Sometimes they're a bit insensitive, which is not ban-worthy, yet I see some downvote brigades that I totally disapprove of. I for one (as an XX if it matters) think Eddie is a valuable contributor to 2X.

I haven't seen the other posters. If the entire campaign excludes men then I consider that inappropriate.

The result is the impression given by the ad. I did not get the impression that I was looking at a complete family unit, which will doubtless offend some single parents. Other people will look at it and see it as exclusionary. I completely agree that we should all be critiquing the media for messages that subjugate men. We should be on the lookout so that we may defend against subtle messages. I do, however, think it's a mistake to assume that this ad is anti-man.

You make a valid observation. I see another possible interpretation, though. They probably want to increase their votes among women, so they want the woman to strongly and personally associate with the image. If the father were present the visual message would become "we" and weaken her independent statement. I for one didn't assume there was no father in the family, just that he was "off-screen" so to speak.
