Exactly. I find this to be really annoying, specially in literature. Don't get me wrong, I hate how everything used to be referred to in the masculine form (he, his, him) but I hate it even more now that they're simply reversing the problem instead of solving it. Everything started to become a she and her. If you wanna fix it, use or invent a neutral form. I started to use they, their and them when referring to singular in my papers and all school stuff and I think it's the best way to go.
