I don't doubt there's a lot of dumb people going off being stupid after they read TRP, but the thread is asking whether or not I've personally seen TRP benefit my life, not whether or not it's a net good. It's really hard to give advice that can't be misinterpreted in some way, and TRP certainly leans towards being intentionally crass and offending, but that doesn't mean it hasn't helped me.

Pretty much. Telling your kids their pet went to a farm or that they'll be abducted by monsters if they misbehave isn't true either, but it produces a good outcome(YMMV).
