About genetics...a friend of mine who’s only 23 has always had old-looking skin in the last 5 years that I’ve known her. She doesn’t smoke, drink, or sleep around. Really quite the good girl with a healthy lifestyle. She’s always been using skincare products but they just don’t seem to be helping. Obviously I don’t think she should stop trying to improve herself, but seeing her case up close really got me thinking about how strong a factor genetics can be, more than we may like to admit.

It wasn’t anger for me but the shocking, sobering realisation that there’re aspects of female nature so unpleasant and with destructive potential when left unchecked. “All of that...it’s in me!” It also feels uncomfortable agreeing with notions that women need to be “trained” in order to behave well, for instance. It’s unsettling and almost dehumanising. I think Paul Elam has a video “How to train your woman like a dog”, which sounds quite awful of course. I just tell myself that the feelings I …

To add on (I’m Chinese Singaporean), filial piety and the emphasis on group identity/consensus means that submissiveness is ingrained in our culture. You’re always deferring to someone. It could be your parents or some other authority at work/school. It’s ridiculous that a woman old enough to be engaged (over 25) still follows a curfew set by her parents, for instance. Challenging authority and being disobedient gets you into trouble. So you have a puzzling mix of submissive individuals (men and…

Hmm. At the moment I have to periodically do long-distance with my fiancé so I think I relate a little. How long does this stint have to be for the both of you and how long has it been already? I think you have to remind yourself that men are good at compartmentalising. All the more so when you’re not there physically, they’re ambitiously working hard at their career and have goals, etc. They can genuinely focus on doing their own thing and be uncommunicative but not out of malice, calculated pu…

This brings up a surprising but sad point. Our mothers obviously don't compete with us for good men and direct comparisons between their life outcome and ours are hard to draw due to all the different variables, but I've seen my mother struggle to fully wish me well with my life choices that are similar to yours, e.g. wanting to marry young (I'm 23 and engaged), subsequently be a SAHM and have my life revolve around my family. I think within herself she's fighting jealousy because she's not as h…

Sounds like a fine approach to have! Without further information about your interests and strengths it's hard to give specific advice, but broadly I would say to think about choosing a course that'll let you pick up some skills or know-how that's in demand (don't rack up debt pursuing a worthless degree). After narrowing it down that way you'll probably be looking at certain STEM fields, accountancy, and healthcare. Then you could perhaps next think about how important it is for you to be able t…

He likes it very much! I'm more self-critical about the result, though.

When I think about middle-aged women whom I've personally encountered and dressed great, the word that comes to my mind is "dignified". They didn't reveal too much skin so their dresses or skirts stopped slightly above the knee at best, and there wasn't a gaping hole in their outfit exposing their back or cleavage either. And they were in shape.

I worked from home (life of a freelancer) but also baked bread. In particular I followed this "No-Knead Crusty Rolls" recipe by Jenny Jones. Her site and YouTube channel are great! I highly recommend her. My fiancé is very picky about artificial sugars and refuses to eat foods that contain them, so it's hard for us to find edible bread in his area. He has even turned down restaurant-quality lava chocolate cake for dessert. It's that bad!

Event my 53 year old aunt refers to her friends as "girlfriends". Ha, sure.

Or from another RP perspective, what was Prince Harry thinking?! I've to disagree with the modest and wholesome image. Incidentally she did have a topless scene in Suits. It just wasn't frontal. Kate Middleton allegedly quit her all-female rowing team in 2007 due to pressure from the Queen. I can't imagine that Markle's love scenes are even an equivalent transgression to Kate's risqué pictures from those days of rowing.

This is a great comment, thanks! I see how it could be a problem if I overlook communication and think that it's fine for me to resolve problems here and there on my own (either by taking action or by trying to reason). My concern was that I didn't want to bother him with what I think are trivial issues. The right form of communication will assuage that.

Maybe your shyness stems from a lack of general confidence or insecurity about certain aspects of yourself. Try to identify what those aspects are, and see if it passes this thought experiment: if I improve on X, will I feel more outgoing/willing to meet new people/willing to try new activities? Then you know what to act on. Also, remember that it's not constructive to focus on things that you cannot change. There's no point brooding or beating yourself up over those. You sound like you've alrea…
